Bourg holds on to beat Ulm 84-89 on the road
Mincidelice JL Bourg en Bresse defeated ratiopharm Ulm 84-89 at ratiopharm arena in Round 9 of the 2023-24 BKT EuroCup on Wednesday night. The guests took a 33-53 lead into halftime and later held off an Ulm comeback to improve to 7-2, causing the hosts to drop to 6-3 in the process.
Maksim Salash paced the guests with 19 points, with Jeremy Morgan and Zaccharie Risacher scoring 17 each. Thomas Klepeisz netted a game-high 20 points, having gone 5-for-7 from behind the arc. Pacome Dadiet recorded 14 points and Karim Jallow had 12, while Juan Nunez and Trevion Willams added 11 apiece.
Even-stevens after the first
Jallow and Nunez gave Ulm an early 4-0 lead, but Bourg responded with back-to-back triples from Risacher and Jequan Lewis. The hosts made the most of 2 steals on one end and scored two baskets in transition on the other to go back in front, 10-9. Risacher completed a three-point play before Willams and Bryce Brown exchanged three-pointers to make it 13-15. The two teams' defenses prevailed in the last 3 minutes of the first quarter, with Noa Essengue and Georginho De Paula hitting 2 free throws each for a 17-17 tie heading into the second quarter.
An offensive explosion by Bourg
Salash scored 8 of Bourg’s first 10 points in the second quarter to give the visitors a 19-27 cushion and force Ulm head coach Anton Gavel to call a timeout. Axel Julien drilled a triple and Morgan added 5 points for a 22-35 Bourg lead. Then, Risacher knocked down a corner three and Morgan completed a three-point play to extend the guests’ lead to 26-43. A Nunez layup was followed by a Klepeisz triple to cut the difference to 31-45. Kevin Kokila and Risacher netted a basket each before Isiaha Mike scored his first points of the night as Bourg took a 33-53 lead into the halftime break.

Bourg maintained a distance in the third
Risacher opened the third quarter with his third triple of the night to take his tally to 14 points. Ulm responded with an 8-0 run, as Dadiet and Klepeisz drilled one three-pointer each and Willams threw down a slam to bring the hosts within 41-56. Jallow and Nunez scored back-to-back buckets to cut the difference to single digits, 47-56, but Mike netted a corner triple and Kokila slammed home a dunk to end Ulm’s momentum, 47-61. Klepeisz nailed his fourth triple of the night, but Morgan responded from beyond the arc and Salash scored a put-back basket for a 53-68 Bourg cushion heading into the closing quarter.
Getting within reach… but coming up short
The hosts started strong with a 9-0 surge in the fourth quarter before Julien nailed one from downtown, 62-71. Dadiet took his fourth-quarter tally to 7 points and Dakota Mathias hit 2-of-2 from the line to bring Ulm within 69-73. Dadiet and Klepeisz went a combined 5-for-5 from the charity stripe to trim the deficit to 74-76 with 3:43 left on the clock. Morgan and Klepeisz exchanged triples, then Salash drilled one of his own to make it 77-82 with less than 2 minutes remaining. A Risacher triple was followed by a Nunez three-point play, 82-85, but Salash netted a floater to seal the guests’ first win against Ulm at the fifth time of asking.
