Lietkabelis Panevezys addes size and experience to its frontcourt by inking power foward Zeljko Sakic, the club announced Sunday. Sakic (2.04 meters, 34 years old) arrives from UNICS Kazan, where he averaged 5.0 points and 2.4 rebounds in 13 VTB League games last season. He started the 2021-22 campaign with another Russian team, Avtodor Saratov, averaging 8.3 points and 4.8 rebounds in 15 VTB League games before joining UNICS in April. Sakic already played for Lietkabelis in the 2019-20 season, averaging 13.6 ponts and 6.5 rebounds in 24 Lithuanian League games. He is set to make his 7DAYS EuroCup debut with Lietkabelis in the upcoming 2022-23 campaign.

Sakic started his career with Kaptol Zagreb and Dugrava Zagreb of his native Croatia, and also played for Zrinjski Mik Company Mostar and HKK Siroki of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Sutor Montegranaro of Italy, Basquet Manresa and Movistar Estudiantes of Spain, Lukoil Academic Sofia of Bulgaria, Cibona Zagreb also of Croatia, U-BT Cluj-Napoca of Romania, and Stelmet Enea Zielona Gora of Poland. He helped Siroki win back-to-back Bosnan League titles in 2011 and 2012, lifting the Bosnian Cup trophy in 2012. Sakic also won the Bulgarian League title with Lukoil in 2016 and lifted the Romanian Cup trophy with Cluj in 2018, and has also been a member of the Croatian national team.
