On Tuesday afternoon, Lithuanian club Lietkabelis Panevezys announced that it has reached an agrrement with head coach Nenad Canak to lead the team from the sidelines for one more season. Canak, 46, has coached Lietkabelis during the last three seasons. Last season, he led the team to a 9-7 record in the 7DAYS EuroCup regular season, but then fell in the single-game eighthfinals round against eventual champ Cirtus Segafredo Bologna, 75-67.
After a lengthy and successful playing career, Canak made his debut as an assitant coach with Mega Vizura of his native Serbia in 2013-14. He also held that position in BC Mega and then Partizan Belgrade two seasons before making his debut as head coach in 2017-18, also with Spartak Subotica. In December of 2017 he joined Partizan again as boss, and for the 2019-20 season he moved to Lithuania to start his stint with Lietkabelis, with which he reached the 2022 finals of the Lithuanian league and cup.
