Dreamland Gran Canaria remained the only undefeated in the BKT EuroCup with a dominant third quarter in producing a 97-70 victory over Buducnost VOLI Podgorica at home. The reigning champion put together a 19-4 run in the third quarter to pull away for good and finish the first half of the regular season with a 9-0 record in Group B.

Sylven Landesberg paced four scorers in double figures with 18 points for Gran Canaria, while Andrew Albicy netted 11 points and Nicolas Brussino and Pierre Pelos both added 10. In the fight to reach the playoffs, Buducnost dropped to 3-6 after last week having snapped a four-game losing streak. Marvin Jones was Buducnost’s main weapon with 22 points.

### Landesberg, Jones shine early

AJ Slaughter’s three-pointer put the hosts up early 7-4 before a back-and-forth with 5 lead changes and 3 ties and Jones scoring 4 points as Buducnost led 10-12. Jones moved to 10 points already but Landesberg drained two three-pointers at the other end to make it 20-18. Landesberg added 2 more triples and the Gran Canaria cushion grew to 28-20. Buducnost was down 28-23 after 10 minutes.

### Hosts protect narrow margin

Roko Prkacin started the scoring in the second quarter for the hosts but Buducnost closed within 30-28. Gran Canaria scored the next 4 points and it was 36-30 after a Pelos score. Brandon Paul countered with 2 three-pointers and a triple from McKinley Wright knotted the game at 41-41. The hosts responded with 5 points and Brussino hit a buzzer-beating triple to give them a 49-44 lead at intermission.

### Gran Canaria pulls away

Buducnost’s Andrija Slavkovic opened the second half and Gran Canaria needed 2 minutes to score. But Pelos hit a three-pointer and Brussino scored 4 points and the hosts lead pushed to 58-48. Albicy, Ferran Bassas and Miquel Salvo added three-pointers as the cushion swelled to 71-52. The advantage was 75-54 after 30 minutes.

Gran Canaria did not really let up with 5 of the first 7 points of the fourth quarter for an 80-56 lead. Jovan Kljajic made sure Buducnost didn’t dream of a comeback with 8 points as the lead was 91-61 with 4 minutes to go and the game decided for good.

The defending champs remain the lone undefeated team in the competition this season.

They say that basketball is a game of small details, and that was certainly the case when [Dolomiti Energia Trento overcame Aris Midea Thessaloniki, 69-67,](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/eurocup/news/ellis-gives-trento-last-gasp-69-67-win-over-aris/) on Wednesday night.

A close first half was blown apart in the third quarter when Trento enjoyed 7-0 and 8-0 runs, and midway through the final period it looked like the game was over as the home team held a 65-52 lead.

After all, Aris is the lowest scoring team in the competition and was missing its two leading scorers, Roberto Gallinat and Vassilis Toliopoulos. In those circumstances, the prospect of the Greek team overturning a 13-point deficit in less than 5 minutes looked extremely remote.

Two teams locked on the fringes of the playoff places meet as Trento summons Aris with both on two-game losing streaks. A key matchup is expected to arise in the paint, where Andrejs Grazulis tackles visiting big man Silvio de Sousa, but will the path to success be sourced elsewhere on the court?

### A fightback by Aris

But Ronnie Harrell had other ideas. The Aris forward, who came into the game averaging 6.6 points with a high of 14 points during his rookie EuroCup season, exploded by scoring 10 points in 2:30, getting his team back to a single-possession game. 

It was very close from that moment, and that’s when the small details took over – initially from the free-throw line.

First, with 58 seconds left, Lefterios Bochoridis could only split his attempts from the line, making it 67-65. With 31 seconds on the clock, Aris debutant Andreas Kalogiros was fouled in the act of shooting and had the chance to tie the game... but he missed both attempts.

Then, at the other end, Andrejs Grazulis was fouled with an opportunity to make it a 4-point margin with 15 seconds left... but he also missed both, despite having previously scored on all 12 of his trips to the line this season.

That left Aris with one more possession, trailing by 2. The red-hot Harrell, who finished with 24 points, took responsibility, attempted a three-point shot to win it with 4 seconds left... and was fouled by Grazulis. So Harrell had the chance to send his team ahead, but couldn’t continue his hot streak as he missed the second attempt, and overtime seemed to be beckoning.

### Quinn Ellis to the rescue

But in the final and most decisive small detail of the game, Quinn Ellis took the inbound pass and refused to be denied by the intense Aris defense, driving hard to the glass and releasing a layup which took a kind bounce off the rim – perhaps the most important small detail of them all – and dropped through the hoop.

In the end, after 6 missed free throws in the final minute and a friendly bounce, Trento had the win it needed to stay in Group B’s playoff places.

In a battle between two of the 2022-23 BKT EuroCup semifinalists, Joventut Badalona edged Prometey Slobozahsnke 79-76 at home in Group A on Wednesday. Both teams now have a 4-5 record in this group. 


Joventut rallies past Prometey, 79-76! 

Andrew Andrews led the winners with 15 points and Pau Ribas scored 14, all of which came in a game-changing third quarter.  Tyler Cook added 10 for Joventut. Issuf Sanon and Ronald March paced Prometey with 15 points apiece. Ondrej Balvin and Caleb Agada each contributed 12. Balvin also grabbed 12 rebounds. Both teams now have 4-5 records in this group.

### Agada, Sanon put Prometey ahead

Agada followed a three-point play with a big basket down low for a 2-7 Prometey lead. Balvin dunked, March struck from downtown and Agada soon made it a double-digit game, 4-14. Tai Odiase followed a jump hook with an alley-oop slam, getting plenty of help from Issuf Sanon to boost the guests' lead to 7-22. DeShaun Thomas stepped up with a three-point play, Pep Busquets dunked and Kenny Chery got Joventut a bit closer, 15-26, after 10 minutes.

### Andrews keeps Joventut alive

Cook followed a jump hook with a dunk early in the second quarter. Sanon and march each struck from beyond the arc. Then Odiase's fastbreak layup set a 19-34 Prometey margin. Joventut found a go-to guy in Andrews, who scored in penetration and added consecutive jumpers. He got help from Ruben Prey to give the hosts hope at 32-38. Illia Sydorov hit a triple for a 33-41 Prometey lead at halftime.

Agada swished a jumper soon after the break and March sank a three-pointer for a 35-46 Prometey lead. Ribas struck three times from downtown and Busquets added a jumper and a layup in a 15-0 run that put Joventut ahead, 50-46. A red-hot Ribas downed his fourth triple, Andrews hit a jumper and Michael Ruzic boosted the hosts' lead to 57-51. Oleksandr Lypovyy and Sanon joined the three-point shootout. Then Balvin's jump hook put the guests ahead, 60-61. Andrews's layup fixed the score at 62-61 after 30 minutes.

### Down to the wire!

Sanon, Guillem Vives and Sydorov each hit a three-pointer early in the fourth quarter. Cook soon gave Joventut a 69-67 lead with over 6 minutes left. Lypovyy and Rob Gray stepped up for Prometey. Balvin hit a jump hook and fed March for a layup and a 74-76 Prometey lead with under 3 minutes remaining. Andrews split free throws and Ruzic put Joventut in charge, 77-76, with 1:21 left. Agada's shot went in and out and Prey dunked at the other end. March could not get a shot up in time to force overtime, allowing Joventut to celebrate a hard fought win!

With the win Cluj improved to 7-2 in Group B while Lietkabelis dropped to 4-5 and saw its three-game winning streak come to an end. D.J. Seeley paced the winners with 25 points and Emanuel Cate and Jarell Eddie each added 20. Deividas Sirvydis led Lietkabelis with 29 points and Gediminas Orelik scored 22.

Paris put the game away with a 4-15 run spanning the final two quarters in moving to 8-1 at the midway point in the regular season. TJ Shorts paced the Parisian side with 17 points, 5 rebounds, 7 assists and 4 steals and Nadir Hifi scored 15 points. Cedevita set a club record with 31 made free throws but they were not enough in falling to 0-9 as the only winless team in the competition. Justin Cobbs was Cedevita’s leading scorer with 18 points.

Hapoel claimed its second straight win at Aleksandar Nikolic Hall in Belgrade by defeating visiting Besiktas on Wednesday. The game was incredibly balanced for nearly 40 minutes, with neither team able to amass an advantage greater than 6 points, but Hapoel was stronger defensively in the end and gave up just 2 free throws in the last 3 minutes to seal the outcome. J’Covan Brown was the go-to guy in crunch time and led Hapoel with 19 points and 7 assists. Jaylen Hoard followed with 15 points and 8 boards to help Hapoel improve to 6-2. Besiktas, which slipped to 6-3, was paced by Derrick Needham with 16 points and 9 assists.

Trento boosted its playoff hopes with a 69-67 victory over Aris thanks to a game-winning layup by Quinn Ellis in the final second. The victory kept Trento in the all-important top six with a 4-5 record, while Aris dropped to 3-6. A low-scoring first half was perfectly poised at the break, 32-32, before Trento pulled away in the third quarter. Aris roared back but Ellis had the final word with a driving layup. Kamar Baldwin paced the winning team with 15 points. Ronnie Harrell was Aris’s hero with 24 points including 12 in the fourth quarter.

Gran Canaria remained the only undefeated in the EuroCup with a dominant third quarter in producing a victory over Buducnost. The reigning champion put together a 19-4 run in the third quarter to pull away for good and finish the first half of the regular season with a 9-0 record in Group B. Sylven Landesberg paced four scorers in double figures with 18 points for Gran Canaria, while Andrew Albicy netted 11 points. In the fight to reach the playoffs, Buducnost dropped to 3-6 after last week having snapped a four-game losing streak. Marvin Jones was Buducnost’s main weapon with 22 points.

Hassani Gravett added 15 points - 12 of them in the final 5 minutes. 2023 runner-up Turk Telekom has now lost seven straight games for a 1-8 record despite Markis McDuffie scoring 18 points with 9 rebounds.

Wolves dropped their second straight at home in slipping to 4-4 this season. Tre'Shawn Thurman posted 22 points and 8 rebounds in defeat.

Hapoel Schlomo Tel Aviv experienced a tough game against the visiting Besiktas Emlakjet Istanbul in Round 9 of the BKT EuroCup. In a contest that saw several lead changes and an advantage no greater than 6 points for either side, the J’Covan Brown-led [Hapoel managed to escape from Aleksandar Nikolic Hall with an 81-75 victory](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/eurocup/news/hapoel-outlasts-besiktas-81-75/) that allows it to stay close to the top in Group A.

Hapoel found a hero in Brown, who finished as the game’s top scorer with 19 points, while he also had 7 assists, 3 rebounds and 8 fouls drown for a PIR of 28. The 33-year-old did all this in 29:44 minutes on the floor, which is a surprise given that he spent the entire second quarter on the bench due to breathing problems.

### J’Covan Brown had a scare

Brown was named in Hapoel’s starting five and provided 6 points until he had to leave the court with 16 seconds to go in the first period. The Hapoel point guard had to be attended by the medical staff at that point, as he showed difficulties with his breathing for a while. That prevented him from playing a single minute in the remainder of the first half, which ended with a 41-41 tie.

“I’m okay,” Brown stated after the game. “Maybe I had one or two many Red Bulls and sugar pills at one time, but I’m feeling okay. Not 100%, but I’m feeling okay.”

### A dominant second half

Brown ended up recovering quickly and stayed on the floor for the entire second half, before playing a key role for his team in crunch time. He came up big down the stretch, too, after Derek Needham missed a three that could have sent the game in the opposite direction. After grabbing the defensive board, he drew a foul and sunk a tough off-the-dribble deep two that established a 78-75 advantage with 25 seconds left.

On the next possession, Brown repeated his feat by securing the defensive rebound following a miss by Jonah Matthews. This time, though, he drew an unsportsmanlike foul that he turned into 2 free throws, which put the outcome beyond doubt.

“This is my job: to lead the guys night in, night out,” Brown explained. “We know that we had to get a big win. That was our talk the whole week of practice. Just being aggressive… we knew that they were going to come out and be aggressive.

“But we just had to play our basketball. I give credit to them, because they are one hell of a tough team and we just took on the challenge to play together, fight together and give ourselves a better chance at the end of the game.”

Dolomiti Energia Trento boosted its BKT EuroCup Playoffs hopes with a 69-67 victory over Aris Midea Thessaloniki thanks to a game-winning layup by Quinn Ellis in the final second. The victory kept Trento in the all-important top six with a 4-5 record, while Aris dropped to 3-6. 

A low-scoring first half was perfectly poised at the break, 32-32, before Trento pulled away in the third quarter. Aris roared back but Ellis had the final word with a driving layup. Kamar Baldwin paced the winning team with 15 points, while Ellis, Andrejs Grazulis and Prentiss Hubb all scored 10. Ronnie Harrell was Aris’s hero with 24 points including 12 in the fourth quarter, but it wasn’t enough. 

### An evenly balanced opening stanza 

Aris netted the first 4 points as Trento failed to score in the opening 3 minutes, but the hosts responded with a 7-0 run, including 5 points from Hubb, to take the lead. Both teams struggled to score during the middle of the opening period before Lefterios Bochoridis and Ellis traded tough inside baskets, then Harrell and Baldwin swapped three-pointers to make it 17-17 at the end of the first. 

A three-pointer from Grazulis sparked a 7-0 run early in the second period, giving Trento a 24-19 lead. Aris hit straight back as Harrell scored twice inside during a 2-8 run, moving ahead 26-27. Baskets were evenly traded, including a triple for Bochoridis, to keep it close, and the first half ended with a floater from Georgios Fillios and a close-range finish by Mattia Udom to make it 32-32. 

### Baldwin helps the hosts pull away

Baldwin’s three-pointer and two scores from Paul Biligha contributed to a 7-0 run at the start of the second half, before Grazulis and Baldwin both struck from deep in an 8-0 run, stretching Trento’s lead to 47-34. Harrell’s three-pointer helped pull Aris a little closer, but Hubb scored twice to help protect a double-digit margin at the end of the third, 53-43.

### Aris comes back, but Ellis laughs last 

Luca Conti’s three-point play early in the fourth saw Trento starting to look comfortable, 58-43. Dimitris Katsivelis ended Aris’s 6-minute drought, but Baldwin and Cooke initially kept Trento comfortable. Katsivelis and Conti traded triples before Harrell exploded with 10 points in a 0-12 run to give Aris fresh hope. It was 67-65 when Aris had the final possession and Harrell was fouled in the act of shooting a triple, and he made 2 of 3 before Ellis drove to the basket to win it. 

It was the second time this season that Quinn Ellis scored the game-winner for Trento. 

JL Bourg-en-Bresse grabbed an impressive 84-89 win at ratiopharm Ulm in Round 9 of the 2023-24 EuroCup Regular Season.

Mincidelice JL Bourg en Bresse defeated ratiopharm Ulm 84-89 at ratiopharm arena in Round 9 of the 2023-24 BKT EuroCup on Wednesday night. The guests took a 33-53 lead into halftime and later held off an Ulm comeback to improve to 7-2, causing the hosts to drop to 6-3 in the process.

Maksim Salash paced the guests with 19 points, with Jeremy Morgan and Zaccharie Risacher scoring 17 each. Thomas Klepeisz netted a game-high 20 points, having gone 5-for-7 from behind the arc. Pacome Dadiet recorded 14 points and Karim Jallow had 12, while Juan Nunez and Trevion Willams added 11 apiece.

### Even-stevens after the first

Jallow and Nunez gave Ulm an early 4-0 lead, but Bourg responded with back-to-back triples from Risacher and Jequan Lewis. The hosts made the most of 2 steals on one end and scored two baskets in transition on the other to go back in front, 10-9. Risacher completed a three-point play before Willams and Bryce Brown exchanged three-pointers to make it 13-15. The two teams' defenses prevailed in the last 3 minutes of the first quarter, with Noa Essengue and Georginho De Paula hitting 2 free throws each for a 17-17 tie heading into the second quarter.

### An offensive explosion by Bourg

Salash scored 8 of Bourg’s first 10 points in the second quarter to give the visitors a 19-27 cushion and force Ulm head coach Anton Gavel to call a timeout. Axel Julien drilled a triple and Morgan added 5 points for a 22-35 Bourg lead. Then, Risacher knocked down a corner three and Morgan completed a three-point play to extend the guests’ lead to 26-43. A Nunez layup was followed by a Klepeisz triple to cut the difference to 31-45. Kevin Kokila and Risacher netted a basket each before Isiaha Mike scored his first points of the night as Bourg took a 33-53 lead into the halftime break.

### Bourg maintained a distance in the third

Risacher opened the third quarter with his third triple of the night to take his tally to 14 points. Ulm responded with an 8-0 run, as Dadiet and Klepeisz drilled one three-pointer each and Willams threw down a slam to bring the hosts within 41-56. Jallow and Nunez scored back-to-back buckets to cut the difference to single digits, 47-56, but Mike netted a corner triple and Kokila slammed home a dunk to end Ulm’s momentum, 47-61. Klepeisz nailed his fourth triple of the night, but Morgan responded from beyond the arc and Salash scored a put-back basket for a 53-68 Bourg cushion heading into the closing quarter.

### Getting within reach… but coming up short

The hosts started strong with a 9-0 surge in the fourth quarter before Julien nailed one from downtown, 62-71. Dadiet took his fourth-quarter tally to 7 points and Dakota Mathias hit 2-of-2 from the line to bring Ulm within 69-73. Dadiet and Klepeisz went a combined 5-for-5 from the charity stripe to trim the deficit to 74-76 with 3:43 left on the clock. Morgan and Klepeisz exchanged triples, then Salash drilled one of his own to make it 77-82 with less than 2 minutes remaining. A Risacher triple was followed by a Nunez three-point play, 82-85, but Salash netted a floater to seal the guests’ first win against Ulm at the fifth time of asking.

Hapoel Shlomo Tel Aviv claimed its second straight win at Aleksandar Nikolic Hall in Belgrade by defeating visiting Besiktas Emlakjet Istanbul 81-75 on Wednesday night. The game was incredibly balanced for nearly 40 minutes, with neither team able to amass an advantage greater than 6 points, but Hapoel was stronger defensively in the end and gave up just 2 free throws in the last 3 minutes to seal the outcome. 

J’Covan Brown was the go-to guy in crunch time and led Hapoel with 19 points and 7 assists. Jaylen Hoard followed with 15 points and 8 boards, Braian Angola provided 11 points and Kyle Alexander posted 10 points and 6 rebounds to help Hapoel improve to 6-2. Besiktas, which slipped to 6-3, was paced by Derrick Needham with 16 points and 9 assists. Jonah Matthews scored 15 points and Matthew Mitchell and Leyton Hammond added 13 and 11, respectively.

### Offenses shine early 

Both teams started at full throttle offensively, with Hoard pacing Hapoel and Needham doing so for Besiktas in the early going. The latter provided the guests’ first 8 points, including 2 daggers from downtown to establish a 7-8 edge. Despite Angola joining Hoard, Hapoel could not catch up, as Besiktas found a triple by Mitchell and consecutive buckets by Kerem Konan to retain a 12-15 advantage after 4 minutes. Leyton Hammonds hit from downtown, then Mitchell contributed again to make it 16-20 midway through the first period. Mitchell extended it to 18-24 soon after a couple of timeouts, but the visitors’ scoring pace decreased at that point, allowing Hapoel to trail just 24-26 at the end of the first quarter.

### Up and down second frame

John Holland drilled Hapoel’s first triple to put the guests in front, 27-26, but Hammonds responded in style with 5 points in a row to make the hosts’ joy vanish quickly. Tomer Ginat made it all square with a nice floater and Munford returned the lead to the hosts, 33-32, with a jumper right before a TV timeout. The game turned more physical then, with both teams swapping turnovers and missed shots. Kyle Alexander ended the drought from the free-throw line to give the home team a 35-32 lead. Besiktas put Angel Delgado on the floor, and he immediately produced a couple of inside baskets as the lead switched hands once again. Needham showed up to help him from outside with 5 more points to keep Besiktas in charge ahead although Angola responded with the last basket to tie it, 41-41, at halftime.

### Besiktas tries to escape, Hapoel responds

Mitchell and Jonah Matthews got Besiktas going after the intermission for a 41-45 advantage. Hapoel found some accuracy from deep as Angola and Bar Timor sank back-to-back threes that restored the parity, 47-47. Needham came to the rescue with a three-point play that Matthews followed soon after with a nice drive and a triple to give Besiktas a 51-57 margin. Hapoel didn’t step back, though, and found some offensive momentum boosted by Brown to get within 60-61. Despite Berk Ugurlu striking back with a fastbreak layup, a technical foul called on Besiktas’s bench turned into 3 free throws in a row for Hapoel to tie it, 63-63, entering the last stanza.

### Brown is crucial in the clutch 

Both teams traded baskets early in the fourth period, with neither team able to take the reins. Alexander emerged as the go-to guy for Hapoel, scoring 4 points in a row that pushed his team back in front, 69-67. Matthews remained on fire and drilled his third triple followed by a contested long two-pointer to produce a new lead change, 69-72. It didn’t last for long, though, as Brown evened things again, 72-72, with less than 4 minutes to go. With the game on the wire, both offenses struggled to produce from the field, as the scoring came only from the free-throw line for a while until Alexander converted a short jumper to make it 76-75 entering the last minute. Needham had an airball in the next possession, as Brown came up big right after with a long two that provided Hapoel with a 78-75 edge with 25 seconds left. Besiktas tried to tie it on its last offense, but Matthews missed from deep, and Brown just needed to confirm Hapoel’s victory from the line.

Paris Basketball had several role players step up to help it beat KK Cedevita Olimpija in Round 9 of the 2023-24 EuroCup Regular Season.

Paris Basketball leaned on next-man-up mentality at Cedevita

Paris Basketball has not gone through much adversity so far this season in the BKT EuroCup, but the French team rose to the challenge against Cedevita Olimpija Ljubljana with a next-man-up mentality, which helped it come away with [an important 77-93 road victory](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/eurocup/news/paris-basketball-bounces-back-for-convincing-77-93-win-over-kk-cedevita-olimpija/) in Round 9.

Paris was without team captain Michael Kessens and assistant captain Sebastian Herrera for the game, yet the visitors managed to nevertheless bounce back from their first loss of the season last week against Besiktas Emlakjet Istanbul.

“What I am very impressed \[with\] about this group is that they find a way to win. And they have the next-guy-up mentality,” said Paris head coach Tuomas Iisalo.

“That’s what you have to have if you want to be a good team and beat other good teams like Cedevita, who are way better than their record \[0-9\] suggests and have a lot of talent on their roster.”

### Sticking together and making an impact

Kessens had been averaging 4.8 points, 2.6 rebounds and 1.2 assists in 14 minutes per game, while combo guard Herrera had been totaling 4.9 points on 35.5% three-point shooting, 1.5 rebounds and 1.9 assists in 20 minutes of action.

“It was super difficult. We’re down a couple of guys right now,” said TJ Shorts, who tallied 17 points, 5 rebounds, 7 assists, 4 steals and his first block of the season.

“When you’re down you have to have the next-man-up mentality, and I think everybody in the locker room had that mentality. For 40 minutes we competed, we stuck to our identity and it resulted in a win.”

### Surprise performers

Gauthier Denis stepped up with 3 important three-pointers for 9 points off the Paris bench. And 20-year-old big man Enzo Shahrvin picked up 4 points, 4 rebounds and 2 blocks in just 8 minutes before injuring his knee and not being able to return for the second half.

Coach Iisalo’s team was unable to pull away in the first 28 minutes, before finally putting together a big run to open some space.

“What helped us is that we have been turning these games into wins and that has created this collective confidence,” he added. “Whatever obstacles are thrown our way, we will find a way \[to win\].”
