With 12 teams already into the 7DAYS EuroCup Eighthfinals and four more with mathematical chances to advance, Round 16 could be a pivotal to knowing the entire list of squads that will be part of the playoffs. Here's your guide to Tuesday and Wednesday's action.

Dolomiti Energia Trento kept its hopes of reaching the 7DAYS EuroCup Playoffs alive with a crucial 79-76 home win over Buducnost VOLI Podgorica on Tuesday night. However, the Italian team had a nervy end to the game after it had thrown away a 23-point lead it had built early in the second half. The outcome left Trento on a 3-13 record in Group B, two games back of Veolia Towers Hamburg (5-11), who missed a chance to seal a playoff berth after suffering an 85-91 setback at Hapoel Vegan Friendly Tel Aviv. Trento visits Hamburg next week and only a win will see it avoid an early exit.

[Joventut Badalona 104-81 U-BT Cluj-Napoca](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/eurocup/news/joventut-cruises-past-cluj-104-81/)

Joventut Badalona secured a 104-81 home win over U-BT Cluj-Napoca in Round 16 to clinch home-court advantage in the eighthfinals of the 7DAYS EuroCup. Despite missing three key players – Andrija Stipanovic, Kasey Shepherd and Karel Guzman – the guests started strong and headed into the second quarter with a 21-22 lead, but Joventut improved on defense and dominated in the paint to seal its seventh victory in eight home games. The hosts improved to 11-5, but Cluj dropped to 5-11 and has been mathematically eliminated from the playoff race.

[Paris Basketball 89-85 Slask Wroclaw](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/eurocup/news/jeremy-evans-leads-paris-past-slask-89-85/)

Paris Basketball grabbed its 10th victory in Group B of the 7DAYS EuroCup by downing Slask Wroclaw 89-85 in the French capital on Tuesday night. Paris recorded its fourth straight home win and went up to 10-6 in the standings. Meanwhile, Slask dropped to 1-15 and is now on a 19-game road losing streak. Its last road victory came against Kalev Cramo Tallinn, 61-79, on December 4, 2007.

[Frutti Extra Bursaspor vs. Umana Reyer Venice](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/eurocup/game-center/2022-23/frutti-extra-bursaspor-umana-reyer-venice/U2022/154/)

It is a critical game in the fight to reach the playoffs and get the home-court advantage in the first round. Reyer (8-7) has mathematically qualified to the playoffs. Bursaspor (7-8) qualifies if Cluj loses, regardless of other scores. If Cluj wins, Bursaspor qualifies with a victory if both Ulm and Brescia win, too. If Bursaspor wins, both teams would be tied at 8-8 and getting the tiebreak advantage would become quite important. In Round 7, Reyer registered a 78-65 home win against Bursaspor.

[Prometey Slobozhanske vs. Mincidelice JL Bourg en Bresse](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/eurocup/game-center/2022-23/prometey-slobozhanske-mincidelice-jl-bourg-en-bresse/U2022/152/)

Prometey (11-4) has already secured home-court advantage in the eighthfinals. It will secures first place in Group A with a victory in this game if Joventut also loses at home against Cluj. That would guarantee that Prometey hosts every playoff game until a potential championship game. The hosts have an eight-game winning streak. Bourg (8-7) also has punched its playoffs ticket and was the last team to beat Prometey, 92-85, in Round 7. Bourg is on a four-game losing streak but still has chances to fight for the home-court advantage in the next round.

Two high-scoring teams meet again at Ratiopharm Arena. Ulm (8-7) will qualify to the playoffs with a victory, or if Cluj loses. Ulm may have lost its last two games, but a victory on Wednesday, in addition to securing a playoffs berth, would give the German club a good chance to fight for home-court advantage in the eighthfinals. Cedevita (3-12), the only eliminated team in Group A, is looking for its third consecutive victory against Ulm. Earlier this season, Cedevita thrashed Ulm 108-78 in the Slovenian capital. Cedevita lost its last two games and looks to finish the season in style.

[London Lions vs. Promitheas Patras](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/eurocup/game-center/2022-23/london-lions-promitheas-patras/U2022/160/)

London (7-8) has already sealed its ticket to the next round and currently stands in seventh place, two wins ahead of eighth-ranked Hamburg and also two wins away from Promitheas (9-6), which is currently tied for fourth place. A win would give London a better chance to get out of that seventh place, avoiding one of the two top teams in Group A in its eighthfinals matchup. A win would give Promitheas a fighting chance for a top-four finish in Group B, as its next two games are against Paris and Hapoel. In Round 7, London downed Promitheas 67-77 in Patras.

[Germani Brescia vs. 7Bet-Lietkabelis Panevezys](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/eurocup/game-center/2022-23/germani-brescia-7bet-lietkabelis-panevezys/U2022/155/)

Brescia (7-8) may already be qualified by the time of this Wednesday tipoff if Cluj loses to Joventut on Tuesday. But if not, Brescia needs to win hope that Bursaspor defeats Reyer in order to punch its ticket to the next round. Brescia has registered three double-digit wins in its last four home games, but comes off a 26-point loss to Reyer in Venice. Lietkabelis (8-7) has already qualified to the playoffs for the second consecutive season. It has also won its last two road games, against Cluj and Cedevita. For tiebreaking purposes, Lietkabelis downed Brescia 79-70 at home in Round 7, so a victory in the rematch would settle any tiebreaks between them in favor of the Lithuanian visitors.

Right now, Gran Canaria (12-3) has the best record in the competition and winning its next three games would allow head coach Jaka Lakovic's team to stop traveling and host all playoffs games until it loses or lifts the trophy. In this game, Gran Canaria can clinch first place in Group B with a win if Hapoel also loses against Hamburg. Turk Telekom (11-4) needs a win to keep challenging for first place. It also secures the home-court advantage in the eighthfinals with a victory combined with a loss by either Buducnost or Paris. Gran Canaria beat Turk Telekom 81-88 in Round 7.

And we ended the rebound \[battle\] a lot better after a terrible first quarter. After that, Hamburg didn’t control our offensive boards, so we came out with a win and I'm very happy with that."

This win helps Hapoel's chances of securing home-court advantage in the playoffs, which could prove key, while Hamburg dropped to 5-11.

Xavier Munford and J'Covan Brown, the latter of whom came off the bench, led the way for Hapoel with 21 points apiece on a night when forward Tomer Ginat was unavailable. JP Tokoto had a 12-point, 10-rebound double-double, and Jaylen Hoard also got into double figures for points with 10. For Hamburg, Yoeli Childs impressed with a double-double of his own, which consisted of 19 points and 12 rebounds, while Ziga Samar scored 18 points, Anthony Polite had 17 and Lukas Meisner added 10.

Tokoto got the ball rolling for Hapoel by scoring the first bucket of the game, but an inspired Childs soon took over, racking up 8 points and 5 rebounds – 4 of which came on the offensive end – as Hamburg took a 4-13 lead after the first four minutes of play. Hapoel ended its scoring drought with 5:42 remaining following 2 made free throws by Hoard, and soon after, 6 quick points by Brown helped the hosts cut the gap, 17-23, with 2:08 left. Hamburg extended the lead back to 9, 17-26, following a Harrison Cleary triple, but a 7-0 run saw Hapoel come roaring back, 24-26. Christoph Philipps nailed a triple, before Munford's 2 free throws made it 26-29 at the end of the first 10 minutes.

In the second quarter, the play of Hoard, Munford and Brown allowed Hapoel to assert more control, with a 10-0 run allowing the hosts to race in front, 43-36, with 4:34 remaining before halftime. Hamburg refused to go away, though. After Munford went 2-for-2 from the line to make it 52-45 with just under two minutes left, 1 triple from Polite and 2 from Samar, who scored 13 points in the second quarter, helped Hamburg get back in front. The two teams went into the internal with the visitors narrowly ahead, 52-54.

It was an electric first half that was played at a very fast pace, but baskets became hard to come by in the third. Munford scored Hapoel's first 4 points of the quarter to give the hosts the lead once again, 56-54, but Childs nailed both of his free throws to tie the game, 56-56, with 8:40 left on the clock. The next basket came at the 6:48 mark, as Brown converted a two-pointer, 58-56. The teams proceeded to go back and forth in the closing stages, but Chinanu Onuaku scored 1 of his 2 free throws to ensure that it was level, 69-69, entering the fourth.

Hapoel put its foot on the gas to start the final period, going on a 6-0 run to open a 75-69 lead. Philipps hit back with a three-pointer with 7:17 remaining, 75-72, but Brown responded with a triple of his own to calm any nerves among Hapoel's passionate fan base, 78-72. Just as Hamburg had got to within 3 points, 80-77, a three-point play by Bar Timor – his first points of the night – kept the visitors at arm's length. Then, Munford struck from deep to make it a tough task even tougher for Hamburg, 86-77. The German team continued to fight until the end, but Onuaku's offensive rebound and assist for a Munford layup put the win on ice with 31.9 seconds remaining, 90-83. Hapoel went on to see a 91-85 victory over the line, as it further improved its chances of gaining home-court advantage.

The 16th round of the 18-game 7DAYS EuroCup Regular Season arrives on Tuesday and Wednesday with four playoffs spots still to be filled – three in Group A and one in Group B – plus plenty of other battles for higher finishes. Remember that the higher-placed team will host each single-elimination eighthfinals, quarterfinal, semifinal and final games going forward, so finishing with the best possible standing in the regular season is crucially important.

Round 16 playoff possibilities

It has been a good 7DAYS EuroCup season until now, as we – Turk Telekom Ankara – have already reached 11 wins and qualified for the playoffs. We beat Promitheas Patras 85-75 at home last week. It was a good game. It was one of the first games back from the break, so we knew it was a super important one as well. 

We needed to take care of our home court, and I think we did. They are a good team and I think we stuck to the game plan, grinded it out and got it done. Arnoldas Kulboka made things hard for us in the third quarter – he is definitely a great shooter. He has been playing good this whole season. He got hot in the third quarter, and this is why teams have good players. And this is why we have a good team – a good, balanced team – as well, because when we have that type of storm, we've got to weather it and figure out a way to win. 

Speaking on very good players, Jerian Grant is up there as an MVP candidate. I worry about my team, you know? Axel Boutielle has been playing great. Tyrique Jones has been playing great. Erkan Yilmaz, Nate Sestina... Everybody has been playing great on our team! We are a real well-balanced team and I'm happy to be playing with these guys.

Jerian is a really humble guy who comes for a big basketball family. Of course, he talks about his family. We all we all talk about our families, but he is a super humble guy and his upbringing has been great. All the Grant brothers, they play really good basketball, so that's really what we talk about. 

Our next game is in Gran Canaria, the only team ahead of us in our group. I am looking forward to it, for sure, because we lost the last time that we played them. It was a similar scenario: we also played to be first in that game as well. I think we lost by 7 points. So, after being down, of course, everybody knows that it's an important game. We are going to go out there and go to play for the win. 

How much of a factor is the long trip to Gran Canaria? It is a long trip and it's definitely different, but we try not to think of it as much. We have got a long, full day of travelling on Monday and we just want to get there safely and then just prepare for the dogfight that we are going to have on Wednesday. So, we can't really sit and worry about the travel and feel bad for ourselves, but we've just got to find a way to get it done.

2022-23 EuroCup highlights: Tony Taylor, Turk Telekom

It is a long trip, so there is time for everything. I will read, watch a couple of series, or we will be talking. I will also try to sleep on the plane as well. I've got a bunch of different options for whatever my mind and body will want me to do. I have been watching a series from home; old stuff, as well as this show called 'Abbott Elementary'. It's a sitcom. I have been catching up on 'Survivor', I like to watch that show. 

I've watched a couple of things and seen some documentaries, but I stay involved with the markets and the current state of the economy. I'm familiar with pretty much everything. I like to look at macro and microeconomics and see how what we are doing today is going to affect the future, and how the past has affected us now. So, I watch a lot of stuff on the markets, all types of markets. 

I keep track on what's going on in the other regular-season group, our potential opponents, too. We definitely want to win as many games as possible to finish off, because that home-court advantage is so pivotal, being that it's only one game in the playoffs. It's only one game every round, so it's a case of win or go home every game, so having that home-court advantage is super important.

I know Prometey Slobozhanske has been playing great, they've been on a roll and they're playing great. Like I said before, one of my real good friends is D.J. Kennedy, so I'm definitely familiar with them. And they built a good team. They play together well, they run the floor, and D.J. is a seasoned veteran, so he is a great leader on that team. They have been playing great and don't have horrible conditions, though. They live in Latvia and are playing in a really nice arena, that's where they are based. I'm sure it's difficult for the domestic players not being home, of course. For Americans, is probably a little bit normal. But I think how they have been playing and what they have produced this year has been really good.

In three weeks' time, we will be in the EuroCup Playoffs! Everybody's looking forward to it and everybody's excited. We've got big goals, but the biggest thing for us is to put one foot in front of the other and take one game at a time, especially since we go from one Turkish League game to the EuroCup, then back to the Turkish League. We have to stay focused and take on one game at a time. Every single day, we focus on one game at a time.

With just three games left before the regular season ends, we have a pretty good idea about the contenders in the 7DAYS EuroCup and also about the teams which will not make it to the playoffs, with only four spots remaining undecided. 7DAYS EuroCup Power Rankings Vol.4

On Tuesday morning, Cedevita Olimpija Ljubljana made official the departure of Jurica Golemac as head coach. The club confirmed that assistant coach Miro Alilovic will be sitting on the bench for the time being, which means he will make his 7DAYS EuroCup debut during the Round 16 road game at ratiopharm Ulm on Wednesday.

Olimpija, Jurica Golemac part ways

On Tuesday morning, Cedevita Olimpija Ljubljana made official the departure of Jurica Golemac as head coach. The club confirmed that assistant coach Miro Alilovic will be sitting on the bench for the time being, which means he will make his 7DAYS EuroCup debut during the Round 16 road game at ratiopharm Ulm on Wednesday.

Golemac became head coach of Olimpija in January of 2020. Since then, he won the last two Slovenian League championships and the 2022 and 2023 Slovenian Cup. Last season, in the EuroCup, Golemac led the team to the quarterfinals, where it fell to eventual runner-up Frutti Extra Bursaspor. He had led the team to a 11-7 record after the regular season, good enough for a third place in Group B.

This season, Cedevita has had problems from the start and has already been eliminated from playoff contention. The team is currently ranked last in Group A with a 3-12 record following last week’s home loss to 7Bet-Lietkabelis Panevezys. In the domestic ABA League, Cedevita is currently fourth with a 14-6 record. 

"Bad games and results in the last period of this season indicated that things inside the team are unfortunately not working as they should,” Davor Uzbinec, Cedevita Olimpija’s director, said in a statement. “We would like to take this opportunity to thank Jurica for the effort, work and energy he invested in his work as head coach. We believe that he has a beautiful and successful coaching career ahead of him, and we certainly wish him the best of luck on his further sports and life journey. Some teams should punch their playoff ticket in Round 16, joining 12 other qualified squads. While there are a few teams fighting to continue their journeys in the competition, others are looking to secure home-court advantage in the playoffs. [Arnoldas Kulboka, Promitheas Patras](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/eurocup/players/arnoldas-kulboka/006180/) (13.1 credits) – Kulboka is coming off an impressive performance against Turk Telekom Ankara, one of the best defensive teams in the competition, as he scored 23 points on 7-of-11 three-pointers. He has had a PIR of 15 in five of his last isix games, peaking at 36 in Round 12 against Buducnost VOLI Podgorica.

[Jerian Grant, Turk Telekom Ankara](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/eurocup/players/jerian-grant/011204/) (14.0 credits) – Grant is Turk Telekom's floor general and one of the reasons why his team in fighting for first place in Group B. In the last five games, Grant has averaged 19.6 points, 6.4 assists and a PIR of 21.0. He has been arguably one of the biggest stars in the EuroCup this season.

EuroCup Fantasy tips: Round 15

[Yago dos Santos, ratiopharm Ulm](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/eurocup/players/yago-dos-santos/012044/) (12.8 credits) – Dos Santos keeps surprising experts and fans alike with very impressive performances. The Brazilian point guard has seamlessly adjusted to European basketball, and his last five contests have seen him average 16.2 points, 4.2 rebounds, 8.8 assists and a PIR of 24.2. Truly outstanding! 

[Miye Oni, London Lions](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/eurocup/players/miye-oni/012079/) (10.0 credits) – Oni is coming off a solid double-double last week, getting 22 points, 12 rebounds and a PIR of 30 in a win at Slask Wroclaw. That was just his fifth game in the competition, with the guards missing between Rounds 7 and 12 due to injury. In Round 14, Oni had 14 points and a PIR of 14 in a home win against Veolia Towers Hamburg. He's getting better and better!

[Matteo Spagnolo, Dolomiti Energia Trento](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/eurocup/players/matteo-spagnolo/008173/) (9.3 credits) – Spagnolo showed what he is capable of in Round 15, scoring 23 points and recording a PIR of 29 in a road loss against Gran Canaria. Trento is in a do-or-die situation and needs all the help it can get, so Spagnolo has stepped up at a critical time to give Trento some hope on offense.
