7DAYS EuroCup runners-up Frutti Extra Bursaspor started building a new roster for a new assault on the title in 2022-23 with the addition of guard [Anthony Clemmons](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/eurocup/players/anthony-clemmons/009565/) on a one-year deal. Clemmons (1.88 meters, 27 years old) arrives from Turk Telekom Ankara, where last season he averaged 12.1 points, 3.2 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 1.4 steals in 14 EuroCup games, 12 of them as a starter.

This will be Clemmons's third season in the EuroCup; he also played in 2019-20 with AS Monaco. He has played a total of 30 EuroCup games during which he has tallied 339 points, 88 assists and 88 rebounds. He played college basketball for Iowa from 2012 to 2016 and has played professionally for Sassari of Italy, Igokea in Serbia, Astana in the VTB United League and Vienna in Austria.

Bursaspor lands Anthony Clemmons

Dolomiti Energia Trento has made forward [Mattia Udom](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/eurocup/players/mattia-udom/001479/) its first new recruit for the 2022-23 season. Udom (2.00 meters, 29 years old) signed a one-year deal with Trento with an option for a second. He arrives from Brindisi of the Italian League, where he played the last two seasons, during which he averaged 5.4 points and 4.5 rebounds in 68 games.

Udom grew up in the youth system of Mens Sana Siena and made his first-team and EuroCup debut in 2013. In the 2013-14 season, Udom played four games in the EuroCup Last 32 and started in one, scoring a total of 4 points in just over 22 minutes. After that, he spent several years with Agrigento of the Italian second division and then returned to Siena. He also played for Biella and Verona and been a member of the Italian national team.

### Italy: Milan takes 3-1 finals lead

AX Armani Exchange Milan used a huge fourth-quarter run to protect its home court and defeat Virtus Segafredo Bologna 77-62, getting within one victory away from claiming the Italian League title. Shields paced Milan in victory with 21 points. Devon Hall scored 14, Grant had 11 and Kyle Hines scored 10. Shengelia had 21 for Virtus and Jaiteh collected 12 points and 8 rebounds in a loss.

Virtus had a strong finish to the first quarter, with Milos Teodosic hitting back-to-back threes that helped the visitors open 16-24 lead, but Shavon Shields and Nicolo Melli combined to scored 9 points to open the second quarter before Ben Bentil's basket put Milan in front 27-26. Milan kept control with its defense, remaining in front and holding 40-34 lead at halftime. A triple from Jerian Grant opened an 11-point margin early in the third, but Tornike Shengelia and 7DAYS EuroCup MVP Mam Jaiteh got Virtus going, combining for 17 points as Virtus tied it at 55-55 after 30 minutes, then went in front on the opening possession of the fourth quarter. But Shields scored a three-point play and a triple, fueling an 18-0 run in which he scored 10 points. Milan held Virtus scoreless for almost 7 minutes, securing a victory and a 3-1 lead in the best-of-seven series.

Kyle Weems had come close to winning the 7DAYS EuroCup a few times before and when a new opportunity arose, he made sure Virtus Segafredo Bologna finished the 2021-22 season atop the podium.

Weems led Strasbourg to the 2015 EuroCup Finals and was one win away from reaching that stage with Virtus last season. Weems was an essential player in Coach Sergio Scariolo's rotation due to his great versatility on defense, including the ability to switch in pick-and-roll plays and guard smaller opponents as well as his trademark character and energy. He averaged 13.2 points on great shooting (62.1% 2FG, 40.5% 3FG), 3.4 rebounds and 1.4 steals in 18 regular-season games. Weems was the only Virtus player to appear in all 22 games this season.

Weems steps up for Virtus in the knock-out rounds

Like all elite players, Weems saved his best for last. In the eighthfinals against Lietkabelis Panevezys, he helped Virtus get out of a tricky situation with a great all-around performance - 13 points, 4 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals for a game-high PIR of 22. He had 4 points and 7 rebounds in the quarterfinals against ratiopharm Ulm and contributed 8 points and 5 rebounds to lead Virtus past Valencia Basket at La Fonteta. Weems then finished the season strong with 13 points, 4 rebounds and a career-high 4 blocks in the championship game against Frutti Extra Bursaspor. After five seasons in the competition, Weems could finally celebrate as a 7DAYS EuroCup champion!

Massinburg (1.90 meters, 25 years old) arrives from Limoges CSP, where he averaged 14.4 points on 40.0% three-point shooting, 4.3 rebounds and 3.3 assists in 34 French League games last season. He started his professional basketball career with Long Island of the G League, where he played for two years. Before that, he finished his college career at the University of Buffalo, averaging 18.2 points, 6.5 rebounds and 3.0 assists in the 2018-19 season.

Massinburg is set to make his 7DAYS EuroCup debut with Brescia next season. "CJ is a player who comes from an excellent first European year in France, he wants to learn, to work and to grow," Brescia head coach Alessangro Magro said. "He wants and knows how to make himself available to the team and is able to do what a team needs to compete, in many different ways. He has very high potential and we are happy to have him with us and to be able to work and grow together".

Pallacanestro Brescia confirmed its first new signing for the upcoming season, none other than guard C.J. Massinburg, who penned a two-year deal with his new club.

Pallacanestro Brescia announced a new deal with swingman [John Petrucelli](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/eurocup/players/john-petrucelli/010579/), who re-signed his contract until the end of the 2023-24 campaign. Petrucelli (1.93 meters, 29 years old) averaged 10.6 points on 44.4% three-point shooting, 3.1 rebounds and 1.4 steals in 32 Italian League games last season. He helped Brescia reach the Italian League semifinals and finish the Italian League regular season with a 21-9 record. Petrucelli started his professional basketball career with Iskra Svit of Slovakia. He also played for Erie Bay and Lakeland of the G League, Hapoel Beer Sheva of Israel and ratiopharm Ulm of Germany, with whom he made his 7DAYS EuroCup debut. He averaged 9.4 points and 3.5 rebounds in 10 EuroCup games in the 2020-21 campaign.

Tribute to the Champs: JaKarr Sampson

Sampson gave Virtus tremendous depth at the center position as he was among the most productive players on a per-minute basis in all of the competition. He started in just five of his 19 appearances, but made the most of his minutes. Despite averaging just 13:26 minutes per game and never playing more than 19:41 minutes in any of his 19 appearances, Sampson still averaged 7.3 points, converting 63.4% on his two-point shots, and pulled down 3.4 rebounds per game. Sampson was one of EuroCup's best two-point shot-makers, ranking second with 9.2 two-pointers per-40 minutes. He also ranked 11th in defensive rebounding (7.2 per-40 minutes).

When it mattered the most is when Sampson was at his best. During Virtus's postseason run, his scoring average improved to 10.0 points per game and he also delivered a total of 5 blocks in four playoff games on the way to the title, including 3 blocked shots in the semifinal road win at Valencia Basket. In limited action during the season, Sampson had a total of seven games with 10 or more points and six games with 5 or more rebounds, including the EuroCup Final against Frutti Extra Bursaspor, which he finished with 11 points on 5-for-5 two-point shooting and 5 rebounds. In what was just his first season in Europe, Sampson can call himself a EuroCup champion. 

First-year center JaKarr Sampson came off the bench to provide Virtus Segafredo Bologna with a great boost all season long and played a vital role in his team lifting the 7DAYS EuroCup trophy.
