Prometey outguns Hapoel, 98-89
Prometey Slobozhanske returned to winning ways in the 2023-24 BKT EuroCup by downing Hapoel Shlomo Tel Aviv 98-89 in Riga, Latvia, on Tuesday. Prometey improved to 3-4 in Group A while Hapoel dropped to 4-2.
Tai Odiase paced the winners with 19 points. Davon Reed contributed 16, Ronald March and Illia Sydorov added 14 apiece and Oleksandr Lypovyy had 12, while Issuf Sanon got 10. Braian Angola led Hapoel with 18 points. J'Cowan Brown and Jaylen Hoard each had 15. Bar Timor added 14, Kyle Alexander 13 and Idan Zamalson 10 for the guests.
Prometey shook off slow start
Timor buried back-to-back three-pointers to give Hapoel an early 3-8 lead. Sanon and Caleb Agada rescued Prometey, then Vyacheslav Bobrov's tip-in put the hosts ahead, 15-14. Sydorov followed a wild three-point play with a bomb from downtown, joining forces with Sanon and March to boost the hosts' margin to 29-26 after 10 minutes.
Timor put Hapoel in charge
Reed hit his second triple early in the second quarter. Hapoel used a 0-6 run, highlighted by John Holland's three-pointer, to tie it at 32-32. March followed a baseline jumper with a bomb from beyond the arc for a 37-34 Prometey lead. Sydorov and Reed joined the three-point shootout to make Hapoel call a timeout at 43-38. Timor stepped up for Hapoel and Alexander's layup put Hapoel ahead, 48-49, at halftime.

Lypovyy made it rain
Alexander kept pacing the guests after the break, leading a 0-6 run that boosted his team's lead to 48-55. But, Lypovyy rescued Prometey with three consecutive triples in a 14-0 run, in which Agada also struck from downtown. Hapoel found a go-to guy in Zalmanson, who brought his team within 65-62. Agada, Odiase and a red-hot Lypovyy then extended the hosts' lead to 75-67 at the end of the third quarter.
Prometey held on to solid lead
Sanon's fastbreak layup made it a double-digit game, 77-67, early in the fourth quarter. Odiase hit a couple of jump hooks to keep Prometey out of trouble, 85-73, with over 4 minutes left. Brown and Angola each sank a three-pointer to give Hapoel hope, 89-84, in the penultimate minute of the contest. However, Reed answered from downtown to seal the outcome, allowing Prometey to cruise to a well-deserved win.
