Promitheas holds on for 71-74 road win in Paris



In a battle that went down to the wire, Promitheas Patras returned to winning ways by edging Paris Basketball 71-74 in the French capital on Wednesday night for its third road victory.
Promitheas upped its record to 5-3 in Group B. Anthony Cowan led the winners with 21 points. Arboldas Kulboka added 13 while Nikos Gkikas had 11 for Promitheas. Kyle Allman had 15 points for Paris, which dropped to 5-3, as well, tied with Promitheas and Buducnost VOLI Podgorica for third place. Aamir Simms added 13 points and Juhann Begarin 12 for Paris.
Ismael Kamagate dunked twice to give Paris an early 5-2 lead but Cowan and Vassilis Mouratos soon helped Promitheas go ahead 9-11. Begarin's back-to-back dunks restored a 17-14 Paris lead after 10 minutes. Kulboka, Georgios Tanoulis and Gkikas each hit a triple in a 0-9 run that gave the guests a 26-29 lead. George Conditt and Kulboka kept Promitheas in charge, 34-36, at halftime. Cowan hit consecutive three-pointers and Kulboka another one to boost the guests' lead to 40-47. Promitheas kept a 47-51 margin at the end of the third quarter and Cowan kept his team ahead, 53-55, with over 6 minutes left. Allman took over with back-to-back triples and Begarin dunked again to bring Paris within 66-67 with 1:05 left. Kulboka and Cowan combined for 7 of 7 free throws , however, to seal the outcome down the stretch, as Paris's Tyrone Wallace and Simms each missed from downtown in the final seconds.
