Virtus Segafredo Bologna went on the road to beat Umana Reyer Venice 72-83 in a clash between Italian League foes in Group B on Wednesday night.

The win gave Virtus a regular-season sweep of Reyer and improved it to 8-6 in the fourth place in the standings, while Reyer dropped to 7-6 and fifth place. Virtus took control in the first quarter behind Daniel Hackett playing in his Virtus debut, and never relinquished the lead with big man Mam Jaiteh and playmaker Milos Teodosic in main roles. Reyer was within a single point several times in the third quarter, but Virtus did not allow a single field goal in more than 4 minutes to open the fourth quarter to win the game. Jaiteh shined with 24 points plus 12 rebounds, and Teodosic had 11 points and 13 assists. Isaia Cordinier also scored in double figures with 10 points, while Hackett finished with 8. Jordan Theodore netted 18 points for Reyer, Stefano Tonut scored all 14 of his points in the second half and Julyan Stone added 11 in defeat.

The teams traded tough baskets early with Theodore and Mitchell Watt opening Reyer's tally before Teodosic from long range and Jaiteh from close range made it 6-10. Stone nailed a corner triple for the hosts, but Hackett scored 6 close-range points before the end of the first quarter to help the visitors open a 13-19 advantage after 10 minutes.
Michael Bramos and Austin Daye got Reyer within 17-19 early in the second, but Kyle Weems sparked a Virtus run that also included a one-handed dunk from Jakkar Sampson and a two-handed fastbreak slam from Amar Alibegovic for an 18-27 lead. Theodore snapped a 1-8 run with a wide-open transition triple, but Cordinier took it to the basket for a driving layup and a double-digit lead, 23-33. Theodore drove to the basket twice, but so did Cordinier, making it 29-37 at halftime.
Jaiteh scored twice inside and Weems had a tip-in for the visitors, but Tonut hit from the outside and Jeff Brooks inside for the hosts before a second three-pointer from Tonut made it 37-43. Jaiteh scored twice more inside, but a triple from Theodore and a three-point play from Tonus helped close the gap to 48-49. Teodosic and Bramos traded triples before Teodosic nailed another and Jaiteh's dunk gave Virtus some breathing room. Stone sank Reyer's fifth three-pointer of the third quarter and the visitors led 56-59 going into the final 10 minutes.
Consecutive baskets from Cordinier, Hackett and Sampson made it 57-65 in less than 2 and a half minutes of the fourth quarter. Cordinier's fastbreak dunk pushed the margin to double digits again. Reyer was without a single field goal until Theodore's triple with 5:40 to go. But Sampson had a three-point play to open a 60-73 lead. Brooks knocked down a three for the hosts, but Alibegovic answered with a long-range dagger on the other end, paving the way for a Virtus win.
