Turk Telekom downs Trento 78-80 for fourth win in five



Turk Telekom Ankara took another step towards erasing its nightmare start to the season by knocking off Dolomiti Energia Trento 78-70 at home to close in on the playoffs ranks in Group B. Turk Telekom wasted an 11-point lead but regained control with a late 11-3 surge to grab its fourth win in the last five games for a 5-9 record.
Yigitcan Saybir led the way with a career high 21 points, Steven Enoch collected 16 points and 13 rebounds and Tyrone Wallace chipped in 15 points. Trento saw its two-game winning streak end and fell to 6-8 in the group. Paul Biligha scored 13 points on the road but they were not enough as Andrejs Grazulis and Kamar Baldwin combined for just 11 points despite both averaging 14.1 points coming into the game.

Turk Telekom did not start hot but led 6-0 after more than 3 minutes as Trento missed its first 4 shots and committed 3 turnovers before finally scoring. Saybir’s triple made it 9-2 and it was 13-4 after James Palmer scoresd twice. Davide Alviti answered with 7 points to push Trento ahead 17-20 after 10 minutes. The hosts evened the game 22-22 before the game went back and forth with five lead changes and two ties until Turk Telekom mounted an 8-0 run over 3 minutes for a 38-31 lead. The home side held a 38-34 advantage at the break.
The three-pointers were falling in the first 2 minutes of the second half with both teams hitting twice from deep before Biligha score twice to help Trento tie it up 44-44. Turk Telekom got some stops defensively and Saybir scored 5 points in a 13-2 run over more than 6 minutes to see the hosts surge ahead 57-46. The score was 57-50 after 30 minutes.
Trento had the better start to the fourth quarter with a 2-10 spurt to take the lead 59-60. That was the first of six lead changes with Turk Telekom scoring 6 straight points for a 69-64 cushion with 3 minutes to play. Wallace drained a big three-pointer and 2 free throws for a 74-67 lead with 72 seconds left. Alviti punched back with a three-pointer but fouled Okben Ulubay with 30 seconds and the Turkish forward made two free throws for a 76-70 lead to secure the win.
