ratiopharm Ulm produced easily its best performance of the season in the 7DAYS Eurocup to celebrate a memorable 110-98 home win over JL Bourg, breaking several club records in the process.
The German team's 63 points in the first half, 86 by the end of the third quarter, and their full-time tally of 110 surpassed its previous club records at each interval. Its best scoring total in 135 EuroCup games before Wednesday was 106 points against Fox Cantu in the 2013-14 season.
Ulm came out on top in Wednesday's slugfest against Bourg as it buried a club-record 19 of 36 shots from three-point range and 20 of 25 from inside the arc, overcoming 20 turnovers and what head coach Anton Gavel called a patchy defensive performance.
In the end, it didn’t matter in the fast-paced encounter as Ulm had too much firepower for the Group A leader. Having failed to defend the perimeter from start to finish, Bourg slipped to a second defeat.
Beaten by Cedevita Olimpija Ljubljana 108-78 in the previous round, Ulm bounced back in style with a whole stack of players contributing offensively. The home players shared the ball as their smooth transition produced 23 assists and resulted in a flurry of open shots, with seven players registering double-digit scoring.
Bourg had its own bright moments as Jordan Floyd served up a fine individual performance with a game-high 23 points, but the French outfit was ultimately undone by superior long-range shooting.
