Wolves snap losing streak, hold off Cedevita 91-89

Wolves Vilnius pulled out a dramatic 91-89 home win over the winless Cedevita Olimpija Ljubljana on Tuesday to keep their playoff hopes alive. The Wolves snapped a six-game losing streak and improved to 5-9 in Group A, while already-eliminated Cedevita Olimpija dropped to 0-14.
In a back-and-forth affair, the hosts made more plays down the stretch. Rasheed Sulaimon scored the hosts' final 2 baskets, including a tough tie-breaking layup with 41 seconds left that proved to be the game-winner. Sulaimon, who played his first game since Round 6, led the winners with 23 points, making 5 of 8 three-pointers. Vaidas Kariniauskas scored 15, while Jeffery Taylor collected 13 points, 6 assists and 6 rebounds. Tre'shawn Thurman scored 12 and Kristupas Zemaitis 10 points in the victory. Karlo Matkovic had 21 points and 6 rebounds for the visitors. Justin Cobbs had 15 points and 6 assists, while DJ Stewart finished with 12 in a losing effort.
Wolves, Cedevita traded leads through 20 minutes
Early on, Matkovic had a three-point play and a monster dunk, but Sulaimon had a three-pointer and fastbreak dunk for the hosts. Taylor nailed a triple but Cobbs and Jaka Blazic made it 14-17. Eigirdas Zukauskas downed a pair of dunks to get the Wolves back in front before a three-point play from Kariniauskas and a buzzer-beating jumper from Thurman made it 27-23 after 10 minutes.
Kariniauskas scored the first basket of the second quarter but Cedevita replied with a 3-9 run during which Gregor Glas knocked down a three-pointer. Nikola Radicevic added back-to-back three-point shots for the visitors, making it 37-38, but the hosts scored the next 9 points. Suleimon sparked the run with a triple and Christian Mekowulu scored twice inside to open a 46-38 advantage. Cedevita found the final 6 points of the half, including a tip-in from Luka Scuka that made it 46-44.

The Wolves scored the first 10 points of the third quarter, including a triple apiece from Zemaitis and Zukauskas for the game's first double-digit lead, 56-44. Cobbs snapped that run with a three-point play. After Sulaimon nailed a triple, the visitors did not allow another basket for more than 4 minutes. During that time, Cedevita put together its own 0-10 run, capped by 2 baskets from Matkovic that cut the deficit to 59-57. Matkovic had a block and a pair of alley-oop dunks before the end of third quarter, which ended with Wolves clinging to a 66-65 edge.
Glas opened the fourth quarter with a three-pointer to flip the lead, but the hosts scored the next 6 points. Rok Radovic and Glas hit back-to-back threes for the visitors, only for Sulaimon to make another one from downtown for the Wolves to go up 75-74. The teams continued trading leads as Jaka Klobucar's triple made it 80-81 for Cedevita. Matkovic added a dunk, but a steal and a dunk by Thurman put the hosts back in front, 84-83. Stewart scored twice for the visitors, but another triple from Sulaimon made it 89-87. After a runner from Cobbs, Sulaimon's acrobatic layup made it 91-89 with 41 seconds to go. That turned out to be the last basket of the game, as the hosts prevailed.
