Micic celebrated 29th birthday in style with road win at Barcelona
Few basketball players have the chance to get a road win at the prestigious Palau Blaugrana on the night of their birthday, but Vasilije Micic had that honor on Friday night after leading Anadolu Efes Istanbul to a 75-80 road victory against FC Barcelona.
Born on January 13, 1994, Micic turned 29 years old and celebrated it in style, inspiring Efes with an all-around performance. He finished with 17 points, 6 rebounds, 6 assists, 1 steal, 1 block and 7 fouls drawn for a PIR of 27, his highest since taking on Barca in Round 8. That night, Efes beat Barca 96-86 and Micic amassed a PIR of 36. "Today is my birthday, so I am happy that we finished this way. Thanks to the guys!" he said after the game.
Micic made sure that he made the difference from minute one, coming to the fore in an outstanding first quarter as Efes closed the first 10 minutes with a 12-point lead, 9-21. In that time, he scored 6 points and provided 3 assists as he helped set the tone early. Micic also made the difference in crunch time. Once Barca got within 72-75, Micic drew a couple of fouls and went 3-of-4 from the free-throw line to make sure he was able to celebrate his birthday in style. Right at the prime of his career, Micic ranks fourth in scoring (17.5 ppg.), second in assists (6.4 apg.) and third in PIR (20.9) in this current EuroLeague season. This is one birthday that Micic won't forget in a hurry.
