What do you get when you add a player like Facundo Campazzo to a Real Madrid team that won the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague last season? A match made in heaven.
Campazzo returned to Los Blancos last summer after three years away, having spent two years in the NBA with the Denver Nuggets and the Dallas Mavericks before joining Crvena Zvezda Meridianbet Belgrade back in the EuroLeague in the second half of last season. But, when the chance arose to come back to WiZink Center, the 32-year-old point guard didn’t think twice.
“I feel at home here,” says Campazzo. “I have my house here, my daughter was born here, I have so many great memories here, so when I had the chance to come back, I didn’t hesitate.”
After having won two EuroLeague titles during his first spell at Real, in the 2014-15 and 2017-18 seasons, Campazzo is clear that his personal goal – and that of the team – is to add another EuroLeague trophy to the club’s haul.
“This season, [our goal is] just try to be again at the Final Four, in the last game, in the final,” he adds. “Not the Final Four, the final. And try to fight for another title. That’s the long-term goal for us. The goals never change here.
“When you talk about Real Madrid, you talk about titles. Or fighting for important things.”
