At times it is difficult for rookie players to make an instant impression in the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague, but in the case of Valencia Basket guard Jonah Radebaugh, something immediately stood out: his hairstyle. The 25-year-old American has gone against the norm with a mullet, which has seen him garner attention through high school, college and now as a professional.
On the court, Radebaugh scored 10 points on his EuroLeague debut before finishing with 7 points in Round 2, but then he found it more difficult to score. In fact, between Rounds 1 and 16, Radebaugh averaged 3.5 points, 1.4 rebounds and 0.9 assists. Since Round 17, however, he has improved those averages to 8.1 points, 1.9 rebounds and 1.6 assists per game.
With each good performance that he has, his mullet is becoming more and more popular in Valencia. But, what was it that made Radebaugh decide to go for a mullet?
"When I was about 13 or so, we were just going to get haircuts and my older brother… I used to just do whatever he said because I wanted to be like him, I wanted him to like him and all that stuff. So, we were getting haircuts and he said, 'You should get a mullet' and I was like, I don't know if he was being serious or if he was just joking with me, but I was like, 'Okay, I'll do it,'" Radebaugh said in a sit-down interview with Euroleague Basketball.
