A pair of Turkish Airlines EuroLeague heavyweights faced off for the one-game Istanball Cup in Turkey on Monday with Olympiacos Piraeus out-dueling host Fenerbahce Beko Istanbul for a 79-93 victory and the trophy. The Reds fell behind 24-22 after one quarter before slowly but surely separating themselves from Fenerbahce to lead 40-49 at halftime. A 6-14 start to the second half gave Olympiacos a cushion that reached a high of 20 points, 69-89, with 5 minutes left in the game, assuring a strong outcome for the visitors Alec Peters paced six Olympiacos double-digit scorers with 19 points. Thomas Walkup followed with 16, Shaquielle McKissic 15, Joel Bolomboy 13, George Pappas 12 and Isiah Canaan 11. The Reds shot at least 10 percentage points better from all distances than Fenerbahce, which got 18 points from Scottie Wilbekin and 16 from Devin Booker.
Zalgiris Kaunas took its show on the road at the Costa del Sol Tournament in Spain and registered a comeback 79-72 victory over host Unicaja Malaga. Zalgiris fell behind 15-22 after 10 minutes and still trailed 35-37 at the half before turning things around. Keenan Evans popped for 17 points to pace Zalgiris. Rolands Smits added 13 and 9 rebounds while Laurynas Birutis scored 12 and Tomas Dimsa 10.
