In a Wednesday night clash between Turkish Airlines EuroLeague squads, AS Monaco triumphed 67-80 over FC Bayern Munich. It was close for much of the game with Bayern up 39-37 at halftime and, after a strong third quarter from Alpha Diallo, Monaco led 59-55. Mike James took over down the stretch and the Monaco defense shined to clinch the win for the visitors. James finished with 15 points and 5 assists and Donta Hall and Donatas Motiejunas added 13 points apiece. Cassius Winston led Bayern in scoring with 10 points and Corey Walden added 9.
Preseason: Monaco triumphs in Munich
Valencia Basket improved to 2-0 on the preseason with a 75-61 victory over fellow Spanish League foe and 7DAYS EuroCup contender Joventut Badalona. The game was close for three quarters, after which Valencia led 57-52. Then it silenced Joventut for 5 minutes during which it reeled off 9 straight points to put the game away. Chris Jones led the way with 17 points, Sam Van Rossom scored 15, Jonah Radebaugh 13 and Josep Puerto 10. For Joventut, Simon Birgander scored 13 and Guillem Vives had 11.
Both Istanbul teams also recorded victories on Wednesday. Fenerbahce Beko Istanbul beat Bahcesehir Koleji 77-67 thanks to strong defense, which forced 19 turnovers. Carsen Edwards scored 14 to lead Fenerbahce, Scottie Wilbekin and Tonye Jekiri each had 12 and Nigel Hayes-Davis 11. Reigning EuroLeague champion Anadolu Efes Istanbul edged CSKA Moscow 77-76 behind 15 points and 8 rebounds from Ante Zizic, 14 points from Rodrigue Beaubois and 13 from Will Clyburn.
