Real Madrid goes joint top by crushing Maccabi, 98-65

Real Madrid demolished Maccabi Playtika Tel Aviv 98-65 at WiZink Center on Friday night. Following this result, Real moved to joint first place at 11-6, while Maccabi dropped to 9-8 after suffering its third-heaviest defeat in Turkish Airlines EuroLeague history.
Real took over early as dominant defense soon led to confident offense, leading by as many as 27 points in the second quarter. Maccabi ended the first half with a 1-11 run but Real soon regained control, and the outcome was never in doubt. Dzanan Musa and Petr Cornelie led the way with 18 points apiece, while Guerschon Yabusele had 16 points and 8 rebounds. Jalen Adams paced Maccabi with 15 points.

Yabusele scored twice early for a 10-5 lead. Yabusele added a triple as a 7-0 run gave the hosts a double-digit margin, and Cornelie’s triple made it 22-7 after 10 minutes. Cornelie and Sergio Rodriguez added three-pointers for a 28-9 edge. Josh Nebo gave Maccabi hope with a pair of baskets, but 2 scores apiece for Alberto Abalde and Musa made it 50-23. Triples from Adams and Jarell Martin pulled Maccabi closer, 51-34 at the break. Three-pointers by Causeur and Nigel Williams-Goss were followed by 5 more points for Yabusele, stretching the lead to 66-43. Triples from Abalde and Causeur stretched the advantage to 78-49 with 10 minutes left, and another Musa three early in the final period emphasized Real’s dominance. The only question was whether Real would reach 100 points, which wasn’t quite achieved, despite 2 more triples from Cornelie.
