Olympiacos crushes Panathinaikos, 71-95

Olympiacos Piraeus has the bragging rights in Greece after routing Panathinaikos Athens 71-95 in the Greek Derby at OAKA Altion on Friday night. After this result, the Reds improve to 10-6 for a share of third place, while Panathinaikos drops to 6-10.
The first quarter featured 12 lead changes, but Olympiacos then took over with a 4-22 run, moving ahead by as many as 22 points. The outcome was never in doubt after that, as Olympiacos dominated every aspect of the game. Moustapha Fall starred with 19 points and 9 rebounds, while fellow big man Joel Bolomboy added 11 points and 6 boards. Thomas Walkup (12 points, 6 assists) and Kostas Sloukas (11 points, 6 assists) controlled the backcourt, with Isaiah Canaan also scoring 17 and Kostas Papanikolaou adding 13. Dwayne Bacon paced Panathinaikos with 30 points on 6-of-8 three-point shooting, but the hosts had little else.

Derrick Williams and Fall both scored twice as the early scoring was evenly shared, 10-11. Two baskets from Bacon edged Panathinaikos ahead, but the dominant Fall scored three more baskets for a 20-26 lead after 10 minutes. Two baskets apiece from Sloukas, McKissic and Bolomboy established a huge lead, 24-46, before Bacon and Williams scored from deep to narrow the gap, 36-53, at the break. Bacon’s triple started the second half, but Fall scored twice inside and Canaan added a pair of triples to keep Olympiacos comfortable, 50-73, with 10 minutes left. Papanikolaou opened the fourth quarter with consecutive scores to erase any doubt, before triples from Mateusz Ponitka and Bacon made the scoreline a little more respectable.
