Cazoo Baskonia Vitoria-Gasteiz has bolstered its backcourt by inking playmaker Darius Thompson to a two-year deal, the club announced on Friday. Thompson (1.93 meters, 27 years old) arrives from Lokomotiv Kuban Krasnodar, where he averaged 13.2 points, 3.0 rebounds and 5.8 assists in 12 7DAYS EuroCup games last season. He ranked sixth – first among guards – in two-point shooting (69.7%) and 10th in PIR (17.2). It was his first EuroCup season, and now Thompson is set to make his Turkish Airlines EuroLeague debut with Baskonia in the upcoming 2022-23 campaign.

Thompson joined Lokomotiv from Happy Casa Brindisi of Italy, where he spent the previous two seasons. He was named to the 2020-21 All-BCL second team after averaging 12.1 points and 5.3 assists in 12 games. Thompson made his professional debut with ZZ Leiden of the Netherlands in 2018-19 and was named the MVP of the Dutch League. Before that, Thompson played college basketball at the University of Tennessee, University of Virginia and Western Kentucky University.
