In one of the best individual performances in the 7DAYS EuroCup this season, Anthony Cowan led Promithas Patras to an 84-81 victory over Paris Basketball last week that allowed his team to clinch the home-court advantage in the eighthfinals. Cowan erupted for a club-record 38 points, which was the best scoring mark in the EuroCup this season. Cowan finished the game in style, burying his sixth three-pointer with 4.3 seconds remaining to make sure Promitheas got the good-as-gold victory. He has averaged 12.4 points, 4.9 assists and a PIR of 13.5 in 17 EuroCup games this season and has boosted those numbers to 27.7 points, 7.7 assists and a PIR of 32.7 over Promitheas's last three games. Cowan needed to adjust to a new level of competition, as he said in this interview. "I think that in the second half of the year, I think I really started to get comfortable," Cowan told EuroCupBasketball.com. "Coach put that confidence in me to have the ball in my hands, to be able to make plays that I know I can make."
Hello, Anthony. Congratulations on beating Paris Basketball. You had 38 points, a EuroCup season-high. How determined were you to play so well once you know that Joe Thomasson wasn't playing?
"First of all, it was a big one for us. Especially, we were able to get a home seed in the playoffs, which I don't think this club has done before, and it was really important for us to do that. And then obviously, I didn't know in the beginning that Joe wasn't going to play, and that obviously takes a lot from us. I know him just being just that extra person that can make plays for himself and for others. So I just tried to do a little bit extra this game and try to make sure I could get people involved, but also find my shot early on, and that's what I did."
