Gran Canaria set about justifying its top seed status as it hosted Slask Wroclaw on Wednesday, and the team from the Canary Islands certainly succeeded as it cruised to an 87-60 victory to advance into the last eight.
Telling numbers: Inside dominance propelled Gran Canaria

Coach Porfi Fisac’s men were superior in pretty much every department, and one of those was definitely the physical battle inside the paint.
Gran Canaria won the rebounding tussle 30-17 in the first half, which also saw the home team put 42 points on the board by converting 11 of 19 two-point attempts (57.9%) while restricting Slask to just 4 of its 20 shots inside the arc (20%).

That kind of disparity could not be maintained but Gran Canaria still ended up winning the rebounding battle 53-32, while scoring 19-of-39 two-pointers (48.7%) and holding Slask to 13-of-39 (33.3%).
And it was very much a team effort, with Artem Pustovyi pairing 10 points and 5 rebounds, Dylan Ennis registering 9 points and 7 rebounds, and Khalifa Diop chipping in with 7 points and 8 boards in a display of true dominance.
