London still in running for top-two finish after 85-92 comeback win at Cedevita

The London Lions remained in the running for a top-two spot in Group A after coming back from 10 points down en route to an 85-92 victory at Cedevita Olimpija Ljubljana in Round 17 of the 2023-24 BKT EuroCup season. London has won three of its last four games for a 12-5 record. Cedevita dropped to 1-16 on the season, including a winless 0-9 mark at home.
Matt Morgan paced London with 26 points and 6 assists, Luke Nelson scored 19 points and Conor Morgan chipped in 14 points in the victory. Cedevita’s Jaka Blazic scored 28 points in the loss and Karlo Matkovic added 21 points, 8 rebounds and 5 blocks.

Cedevita grabbed 5 offensive rebounds in the early going as it took an 11-3 lead, with Blazic scoring 7 points in that span. Matkovic moved to 6 points for Cedevita as the lead was 15-7. London trimmed the deficit to 2 points but trailed 20-13 after 10 minutes.
Cedevita continued to score consistently until Donte Grantham and Matt Morgan hit three-pointers to get London within 26-25. Cedevita scored the next 5 points as London failed to score for more than 3 minutes. Nelson and Matt Morgan hit back-to-back three-pointers to tie the game at 33-33. After a timeout, Gabe Olaseni’s layup gave London its first lead, 33-35, which was the score at the break.
Blazic drained 3 triples in 2 minutes to push Cedevita up 46-42 early in the second half. London coach Petar Bozic was ejected from the game thanks to two technical fouls in succession with 6:34 minutes left in the third quarter. Blazic added another three-pointer to extend the lead to 51-44. After assisting on a big dunk from Matkovic, Blazic hit his fifth three-pointer of the game and the advantage was double figures at 59-49. The Cedevita bench thought a timeout was called and came onto the court, leading to a technical foul. That led to London scoring the next 10 points to even the game and Matt Morgan scored to make it 62-63, which was the score after 30 minutes.
Cedevita scored the first 4 points of the fourth quarter to go back ahead 66-63. The game was close for a while with four lead changes and two ties as Cedevita went 77-72 ahead. Conor Morgan answered with a three-pointer and Nelson converted a four-point play to put London back in front, 77-79. Conor Morgan added a floater and David Nwaba drained a dagger corner three after an offensive rebound to make it 79-86 with 57 seconds left.
