FC Barcelona improved its chances of reaching a third straight Turkish Airlines EuroLeague Final Four by downing Zalgiris Kaunas 89-81 in Game 2 to go 2-0 up in their best-of-five series. Closing the paint after the break was one of the keys to the Blaugrana's victory.
Zalgiris attacked the rim and found a lot of post-up and one-on-one situations in the first half. The guests took 23 two-point shots before the break, hitting 16 of them (69.5% 2FG), while they only went to the foul line 3 times, going 3-of-3. Things were different in the second half, however, as Barca was way more physical. Zalgiris hit 12-of-13 free throws after the break (92.3% FT), but just 5-of-14 two-pointers (35.7% 2FG).
Barca grabbed just 7 of 11 rebounds under its rim in the first half (63.6%). In the second half, though, the hosts had 11 defensive rebounds and Zalgiris only grabbed 1 offensive rebound. Barca pulled down 91.7% of all rebounds under its basket, which allowed it to run the floor more often. Barca finished the game with 21 assists and 7 turnovers. Nico Laprovittola was the key to his team's excellent ball circulation, as he had 11 assists and just 1 turnover.
