Tonye Jekiri and Carsen Edwards were called into the starting five for the first time this season for Fenerbahce Beko Istanbul against ALBA Berlin at Mercedes-Benz Arena and they both rose to the challenge. The former registered a double-double of 10 points and 10 rebounds, while the latter signed off on 13 points and personal-best 8 assists in the win.
"I’m happy I got a double-double, I’m excited, but I have to give my teammates credit for that," said Jekiri right after the final whistle. “It’s so much fun. It’s a funny group of guys. We can challenge each other in practices so coming into the game, it just makes everything easier, so it’s fun, everybody picking [up] each other."
Edwards's 8 assists came just one game after he dished 5 in the loss against Real Madrid in Round 11. From Round 1 to 10, he had only 6 (0.6 per game).
Often, it takes time for EuroLeague newcomers to adjust and Edwards seems to have completed his adjustment period. This can be taken as a clear warning to all of Fenerbahce’s future opponents of what is going to come from him from now on.
