Barcelona holds a 27-13 edge over Panathinaikos in head-to-head games this century and has won the last seven games, including an 86-60 home drubbing in February of last season.
Last season in Athens, Barcelona won 82-85 with Nikola Mirotic scoring 20 and Nicolas Laprovittola 18 points.
Barcelona and Panathinaikos squared off in the 1996 EuroLeague final in Paris, France. Panathinaikos edged Barcelona 67-66 to conquer its first EuroLeague title. Panathinaikos legend Fragiskos Alvertis led the way with 17 points.
Barcelona and Panathinaikos have met twice in the EuroLeague Playoffs. In 2011, Panathinaikos beat Barcelona 3-1 without the home-court advantage. In 2013, Barcelona ousted Panathinaikos 3-2.
Barcelona head coach Sarunas Jasikevicius played four seasons for Panathinaikos from 2007 through 2010 and again in 2011-12. In that time, he helped the Greens to the 2009 EuroLeague title and three Greek League and Greek Cup crowns.
Panathinaikos guard Marius Grigonis played under Coach Jasikevicius and was a teammate of Barcelona's Rokas Jokubaitis at Zalgiris Kaunas. Grigonis and Jokubaitis were teammates for three seasons, from 2018 to 2021. Grigonis played under Jasikevicius for two seasons, from 2018 to 2020.
