The Italian team has lost four of its last six games, all against fellow candidates for a top-four finish, and will again look to Toko Shengelia for leadership after he scored 15 points in last week's narrow loss at Olympiacos. Real's offensive power was too much for Virtus to handle when the teams met in November, with 18 points and 11 assists from Facu Campazzo masterminding a convincing 100-74 home victory. But he has been subdued in the three-game losing run, failing to reach double digits in scoring, and savvy Virtus veteran Daniel Hackett will look to make his life difficult again this week.
- In Round 7, Real beat Virtus 100-74 behind Facundo Campazzo who had 18 points, 11 assists, 6 rebounds and a career-high PIR of 39 to earn the MVP of the Round honor.
- Last season in Bologna, Real beat Virtus 79-96 with Guerschon Yabusele scoring 24 points and earning MVP of the Round honors with a PIR of 30. Mario Hezonja set a Real club record with 8 three-point shots made and finished with 26 points.
- Virtus beat Real 79-74 to win the Cup Winners Cup in 1990. It was Virtus's first title in pan-European competitions.
- Virtus forward Jordan Mickey spent the 2019-20 season with Real Madrid. He was a teammate there of Sergio Llull, Rudy Fernandez, Walter Tavares, Fabien Causeur and Gabriel Deck. Current Real head coach Chus Mateo was an assistant coach.
- Rodriguez and Virtus guard Daniel Hackett were teammates at CSKA Moscow for a season and together they won the 2019 EuroLeague championship.

- Marco Belinelli posted his career high in PIR with 28 against Real in March 2023.
- Virtus big man Bryant Dunston scored a career-high 21 points for Olympiacos Piraeus against Real in April 2014.
- Dunston set a career-high with 4 steals playing for Anadolu Efes Istanbul in Game 4 of the 2021 playoff series against Real.
