In a do-or-die situation on Friday night, FC Bayern Munich produced one of the best defensive performances in the history of the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague Playoffs to take its series with FC Barcelona the full distance, smothering the visitors throughout the game to secure a 59-52 victory.
Telling numbers: Bayern's defense demolished Barca

Bayern's defense was dominant from the opening tip, restricting Barca to just 2 free throws in the first 3 minutes. The visitors wound up shooting just 2 of 12 from the field during the opening quarter. As Andrea Trinchieri's men continued to offer strong resistance, Barca made only 1 field goal in more than 11 minutes bridging the first and second quarters and was totally unable to establish any rhythm throughout the game.
Barca came into the game as the league's most accurate three-point shooting team, but that strength could not come to the fore on Friday as Bayern applied excellent perimeter defense, forcing the visitors to miss their first 7 attempts from beyond the arc. Barcelona would finish with just 5 conversions on 29 three-point attempts, and those thanks to a late flurry of strikes when the outcome was already settled.

In the end, Barca could only convert 14 field goals on 52 attempts (26.9%) which are the fewest field goals by 3 that the club has made in a EuroLeague game this century.
What's more, its final tally of 52 points was the joint-lowest in Barca's 568-game EuroLeague history. It was also by far the worst the Spanish team has ever managed in the playoffs. Its previous playoffs record low was 61 points against Zenit St Petersburg last season and Lokomotiv Kuban Krasnodar in 2015-16.
