Aris Thessaloniki added size and experienced to its backcourt by inking playmaker Dimitris Katsivelis to a one-year deal, the club announced Friday. Katsivelis (1.95 meters, 31 years old) arrives from Kolossos H Hotels Rhodes, where he averaged 7.8 points, 3.8 rebounds, 3.8 assists and 1.5 steals in 22 Greek League games last season. He boosted his numbers up to 13.0 points, 5.0 rebounds and 4.0 assists in 2 games against Aris.

Katsivelis started his professional basketball career Mas Mantoulidis, joining Olympiacos Piraeus in his late teens. In his four seasons with Olympiacos, Katsivelis helped the Reds win back-to-back Turkish Airlines EuroLeague titles in 2012 and 2013, as well as lifting the Intercontinental Cup trophy in 2013 and claiming two Greek League and a Greek Cup crowns. He has also played for AEK Athens, PAOK Thessaloniki, Promitheas Patras and Peristeri Athens of his native Greece, as well as for Astaba of Kazakhstan. Katsivelis has also been a member of the Greek national team. He helped Greece win a gold medal at the 2008 U18 European Championships, getting a silver one at the 2010 U20 European Championships. He also lifted the Kazakhstan League trophy in 2017. In 23 EuroCup games with AEK and Promitheas, Katsivelis averages 3.7 points and 1.5 assists.
