Veolia Towers Hamburg wasted a big lead but managed to fend off Slask Wroclaw to collect its first home win of the season in the 2022-23 7DAYS EuroCup.
Hamburg fights past Slask for first home victory



Slask erased a 19-point halftime deficit before Hamburg prevailed 87-83 to improve to 2-1. Kendale McCullum was one of four Hamburg players that got into double figures, scoring 16 points, while Yoeli Childs had 14 points and 10 rebounds. Aleksander Dziewa of Slask recorded 17 points and 15 rebounds, yet it was in a losing effort as his team dropped to 0-3.

Neither team really was able to away in the first quarter, which ended with the hosts ahead 22-19. Hamburg used runs of 10-0 and 15-3 to extend the cushion to 19 points, as it led by 52-33 at the break. Slask came out of the locker room a changed team, with its first 17 points including 10 points from Daniel Golebiowski as Slask eventually claimed the lead, 56-58. Hamburg moved back ahead and led 63-61 after 30 minutes. The home team reestablished an eight-point lead but lost that as well, with Slask evening it 73-73. Hamburg did not let Slask nose ahead in the final stages, though, with McCullum saving the day by scoring two layups and two free throws in the final 64 seconds, as well as creating a turnover with 3.9 seconds to play.
