The reigning champs were cruising with lead sin the 20s before Slask rallied in the fourth quarter.
Gran Canaria sweats out tight win over last-placed Slask

Dreamland Gran Canaria failed to put away Slask Wroclaw and ended up sweating out an 81-77 home victory to remain undefeated in the BKT EuroCup. The reigning champion led 54-32 midway through the third quarter but watched as last-placed Slask took the fourth quarter 13-30 and cut the margin to just 4 points in the final minute.
Every Gran Canaria player scored and 11 players had at least 1 rebound with Ben Lammers leading the way on 12 points to go with 4 rebounds and 3 blocks. AJ Slaughter added 12 points and 5 assists for Gran Canaria, which tops Group B with a 7-0 record. Slask is still searching for its first victory at 0-7 despite three players scoring in double figures, topped by Lukasz Kolenda’s 26 points.
Gran Canaria led early 6-2 before Slask took its first charge for an 8-7 score. Lammers scored twice and Slaughter and Miguel Salvo sank three-pointers to put the home side up 17-8. Slaughter and Lammers scored again and the hosts had a 23-13 cushion. It was 23-16 after 10 minutes.
The hosts looked to deliver a knockout punch early in the second quarter with Slaughter knocking down back-to-back three-pointers and Pierre Pelos also hitting from deep in a 13-2 opening for a 36-18 advantage. Slask managed to slow down the Spanish side and went on a 1-9 spurt over more than 4 minutes to cut the gap to 37-27. Gran Canaria however held Slask scoreless for the final 3:41 minutes of the second quarter and tallied the final 8 points to lead 45-27 at the break.

Slask tried to get back into the game and hit the first five points of the second half and trimmed the margin to 45-32. Gran Canaria responded with the next 9 points and the lead was 54-32. Slask refused to give up with 7 straight points and Kendale McCullum and Jakub Niziol hit back-to-back triples to make it 59-47. The home side was too good though with the final 9 points of the quarter and a 68-47 lead after 30 minutes.
Slask could not get the stops needed early in the final frame, only able to get within 71-53 with 8 minutes to go. Gran Canaria youngsters Ruben Loppez and Roko Prkacin scored and Jovan Kljajic put the home side up 77-56. The guests were not ready to give up though with Kolenda hitting triples and Daniel Golebiowski draining one from deep. The cushion was 77-68 with 3 minutes to go. Slask continued to believe and Dusan Miletic’s layup made it 77-70 with 82 seconds to go. Kolenda drained a triple and the difference was 77-73 with 44 seconds remaining. Ferran Bassas and Slaughter both made 2 free throws in the final 32 seconds to secure the win.
