Monaco defeats Fenerbahce 62-65 in Game 4 to tie the series

AS Monaco survived a do-or-die situation by downing Fenerbahce Beko Istanbul 62-65 in Game 4 of their best-of-five series at Ulker Sports and Event Hall on Friday night. The series is now tied at 2-2 and Monaco hosts Game 5 at Salle Gaston Medecin next Wednesday.
Elie Okobo led the winners with 13 points. Mike James and Donatas Motiejunas each had 10, and Donta Hall netted all 6 of his points in the final 4 minutes for Monaco. Marko Guduric paced Fenerbahce with 14 points. Scottie Wilbekin added 11 while Georgios Papagiannis and Nigel Hayes-Davis each had 10. Papagiannis added 11 rebounds for a double-double.

Hayes-Davis put Fener in charge
Motiejunas got Monaco going with a dunk, which James followed with a jumper for a 0-4 lead. Hayes-Davis and Dyshawn Pierre each scored in the low post, Tyler Dorsey took over with a power layup, then Hayes-Davis and Wilbekin each struck from downtown to cap a 12-0 Fenerbahce run. James tried to change things for Monaco and Jaron Blossomgame's put-back basket got the guests within 12-9. Hayes-Davis kept pacing Fenerbahce and Marko Guduric soon restored a 15-9 lead. James scored again to fix the score at 15-11 after 10 minutes.
Okobo kept Monaco close
Motiejunas sank a jump hook early in the second quarter, which Wilbekin bettered with a corner triple for an 18-13 Fenerbahce lead. Guduric joined the three-point shootout, James nailed a jumper off a timeout and Motiejunas's close basket gave Monaco hope at 21-17. Guduric insisted from beyond the arc, Okobo buried a turnaround jumper and Alpha Diallo got the guests even closer, 24-21. Diallo bettered Pierre's fast-break layup with a bomb from beyond the arc. Papagiannis followed a dunk with a tip-in but Okobo single-handedly tied the game, 30-30. Papagiannis's layup-plus-foul made Fenerbahce regain a 33-30 lead at halftime.

Wilbekin and Jordan Loyd traded three-pointers immediately after the break. Hayes-Davis also struck from downtown for a 39-33 score. Loyd insisted from beyond the arc and Nick Calathes also buried a triple. Jaron Blossomgame took over with a put-back slam and Yakuba Ouattara added a fast-break dunk and a three-pointer that completed Monaco's comeback, 42-43. Calathes banked in a one-handed floater that Motiejunas improved with a bomb from downtown. Blossomgame scored in the low post, then Papagiannis hit a triple that fixed the score at 47-48 after 30 minutes.
Down to the wire!
Guduric scored in penetration early in the fourth quarter and Tarik Biberovic added a three-pointer to make Monaco call a timeout at 52-49. Diallo struck from beyond the arc which Okobo followed with a fadeaway jumper that restored a 52-54 Monaco lead with over 4 minutes left. Hall took over with a wild put-back slam, then Calathes brought Fenerbahce within 55-56. Loyd and Guduric traded baskets, then James's three-pointer forced Fenerbahce to stop the game at 57-61 with 57.3 seconds left. Wilbekin made free throws and Guduric bettered Hall's dunk with a three-pointer for a 62-63 score with 21.7 seconds remaining. A five-second violation gave Fenerbahce the ball back but Wilbekin missed a floater and Hall fixed the final score with a dunk with 0.2 seconds left, allowing Monaco to celebrate an incredible road win.
