Real Madrid comes from behind to down Olympiacos, 89-77



Real Madrid registered its first win in the 2025-26 EuroLeague Regular Season by downing Olympiacos Piraeus 89-77 in the Spanish capital in Round 2 on Thursday. Both teams now have a 1-1 record in the standings.
Mario Hezonja led the winners with 18 points. Gabriel Deck added 13 and as many as six other Real players scored between 6 and 9 points. Tyler Dorsey led Olympiacos with 20 points. Evan Fournier and Sasha Vezenkov each added 13 while Nikola Milutinov had 10 for the guests, who led 64-69 at the end of the third quarter.
Dorsey sparked Olympiacos with back-to-back three-pointers, followed by Fournier hitting from downtown to establish a 4-9 lead. Milutinov added a floater, and the red-hot Dorsey finished a fast break with a layup. Feliz responded with a drive to the basket, then Trey Lyles answered Dorsey's layup with a triple. Thomas Walkup scored near the rim, and the unstoppable Dorsey countered Facu Campazzo’s driving layup with his third three-pointer, extending Olympiacos's lead to 11-20. Vezenkov and David Kramer joined the three-point barrage before Dorsey struck again from deep, prompting Real to call a timeout at 15-26. Bruno Fernando hit a jump hook, and Papanikolaou replied with a three-pointer – Olympiacos’s seventh triple in as many attempts. Deck’s layup kept Real within reach at 19-29 after the first quarter.
Tavares gave Los Blancos a boost with a three-point play early in the second quarter. Saben Lee responded for the Reds, and Lyles narrowed the gap for Real to 24-31. Sergio Llull connected from beyond the arc, but Evan Fournier answered with a tough three-pointer and followed it up with a floater to restore Olympiacos’s lead at 27-36. Llull continued to lead Real’s offense, and Hezonja topped Kostas Antetokounmpo’s powerful dunk with a deep three that brought Real even closer at 35-38. Tyson Ward stepped up for Olympiacos with a put-back basket and scored again after Lee’s reverse layup, extending the lead to 35-44. Deck and Campazzo responded on offense, and Chuma Okeke’s put-back dunk forced the Reds to call a timeout at 44-45. Vezenkov came out strong with a jump hook and a fast-break layup in a 0-6 Olympiacos run. Okeke hit a triple, but Vezenkov closed the half by restoring a 47-53 Olympiacos lead.
Feliz opened the second half with a three-pointer and added an off-balanced basket to keep Real close at 52-55. Vezenkov continued to lead Olympiacos, but Fernando responded with an alley-oop layup, followed by Hezonja’s catch-and-shoot triple that tied the game at 57-57. Milutinov threw down a dunk, only for Hezonja to cancel it out with a turnaround jumper. Dorsey then restored a 59-61 lead for Olympiacos. Alberto Abalde hit from deep to give Real its biggest lead of the night at 62-61. Milutinov answered with a jumper, and Dorsey gave the visitors breathing room at 62-65. Fernando came up big with an alley-oop dunk, but Milutinov matched it with a four-meter jumper. Vezenkov capped the quarter with free throws, setting the score at 64-69 in favor of Olympiacos after 30 minutes.
Lyles stepped up for Real early in the fourth quarter and Deck's tip-in tied it at 69-69. Garuba took over with a backdoor layup, and got help from Feliz and Tavares to boost Real's lead to 74-69 with five minutes remaining. Olympiacos went scoreless for six minutes until Fournier banked in a floater. Walkup made free throws for a 74-73 Olympiacos deficit. Campazzo made foul shots and fed Hezonja for a jumper that ignited the crowd at 78-73. The Reds kept struggling to score while Campazzo's floater forced coach Georgios Bartzokas to call a timeout, 80-73, with 1:53 left. Tavares dunked to seal the outcome, as Olympiacos never recovered.
