Olympiacos Piraeus shared the ball well enough to defeat Zalgiris Kaunas 73-84 on a night when Olympiacos playmaker Kostas Sloukas moved into fifth place on the EuroLeague’s all-time assists list.
Sloukas passed Diamantidis on assist charts
Olympiacos dished out 21 assists in its victory, including 7 in the fourth quarter alone. Sloukas scored 10 points and collected 6 assists as he surpassed retired Panathinaikos Athens legend Dimitris Diamantidis for fifth place in EuroLeague history in assists. Sloukas moved to 1,256 assists in 307 career games for Olympiacos and Fenerbahce Beko Istanbul. Diamantidis had 1,255 assists in 278 games - all for the Greens.
Sloukas is currently averaging 4.8 assists per game this season. He is on pace to record his sixth straight season with at least 4.5 assists per game in the EuroLeague.
Sloukas has been shining recently with 10 assists in Rounds 28 against FC Bayern Munich and 29 versus ALBA Berlin. He had double-figure assists in four games in 2020-21 for Olympiacos, including twice matching his career-high of 11 assists. In each of the previous three seasons, Sloukas had at least 10 assists in three games.
