Game Notes: Maccabi vs. Zalgiris

After scoring at least 16 points in eight consecutive games, Wade Baldwin will again attempt to lead the Maccabi offense against an equally inspirational Keenan Evans, who scored 18 in last week's loss to Olympiacos. Maccabi boasts the league's second-best offense, at 87.1 points per game, but leaned on excellent defense to secure a 70-78 road win in Kaunas in December. That was unusual because overall Maccabi ranks next-to-worst defensively, allowing 87.8 points per game, so Zalgiris will hope Evans and versatile power forward Rolands Smits can step up to take a much-needed road triumph.
- In Round 17, Maccabi won in Kaunas 70-78 behind Josh Nebo who scored a career-high 22 points and had a career-best PIR of 27.
- One of the most historic moments in EuroLeague history came on April 8, 2004, in Tel Aviv on Derrick Sharp's miracle three-pointer to force overtime against Zalgiris for an eventual 107-99 victory that led to Maccabi winning that season's EuroLeague title and defending it the next year.
- Zalgiris set its club record with 38 free throws made in that 107-99 road overtime loss to Maccabi in April 2004.
- In December 2004, Sarunas Jasikevicius made 14 free throws for Maccabi against Zalgiris, a Maccabi individual single-game club record.
- Maccabi's single-game record for blocks is 9 and its single-game record by a player is 6, each of which was tied twice in games against Zalgiris. Maccabi had 9 blocks against Zalgiris in January 2015 and November 2017. Terence Morris rejected 6 Zalgiris shots in March 2008 and then Alex Tyus matched him in January 2015.
- Zalgiris guard Keenan Evans made his EuroLeague debut with Maccabi in the 2021-22 season
- Maccabi center Josh Nebo made his EuroLeague debut with Zalgiris in the 2021-22 season; he was a teammate of the majority of Zalgiris's current squad.
- Zalgiris forward Edgaras Ulanovas and Maccabi guard Lorenzo Brown were teammates at Fenerbahce Beko Istanbul during the 2020-21 season.
