Dreamland Gran Canaria failed to put away Slask Wroclaw and ended up sweating out an 81-77 home victory to remain undefeated in the BKT EuroCup. The reigning champion led 54-32 midway through the third quarter but watched as last-placed Slask took the fourth quarter 13-30 and cut the margin to just 4 points in the final minute.

Every Gran Canaria player scored and 11 players had at least 1 rebound with Ben Lammers leading the way on 12 points to go with 4 rebounds and 3 blocks. AJ Slaughter added 12 points and 5 assists for Gran Canaria, which tops Group B with a 7-0 record. Slask is still searching for its first victory at 0-7 despite three players scoring in double figures, topped by Lukasz Kolenda’s 26 points.

Game News

Gran Canaria led early 6-2 before Slask took its first charge for an 8-7 score. Lammers scored twice and Slaughter and Miguel Salvo sank three-pointers to put the home side up 17-8. Slaughter and Lammers scored again and the hosts had a 23-13 cushion. It was 23-16 after 10 minutes.

The hosts looked to deliver a knockout punch early in the second quarter with Slaughter knocking down back-to-back three-pointers and Pierre Pelos also hitting from deep in a 13-2 opening for a 36-18 advantage. Slask managed to slow down the Spanish side and went on a 1-9 spurt over more than 4 minutes to cut the gap to 37-27. Gran Canaria however held Slask scoreless for the final 3:41 minutes of the second quarter and tallied the final 8 points to lead 45-27 at the break.

Slask tried to get back into the game and hit the first five points of the second half and trimmed the margin to 45-32. Gran Canaria responded with the next 9 points and the lead was 54-32. Slask refused to give up with 7 straight points and Kendale McCullum and Jakub Niziol hit back-to-back triples to make it 59-47. The home side was too good though with the final 9 points of the quarter and a 68-47 lead after 30 minutes.

Slask could not get the stops needed early in the final frame, only able to get within 71-53 with 8 minutes to go. Gran Canaria youngsters Ruben Loppez and Roko Prkacin scored and Jovan Kljajic put the home side up 77-56. The guests were not ready to give up though with Kolenda hitting triples and Daniel Golebiowski draining one from deep. The cushion was 77-68 with 3 minutes to go. Slask continued to believe and Dusan Miletic’s layup made it 77-70 with 82 seconds to go. Kolenda drained a triple and the difference was 77-73 with 44 seconds remaining. Ferran Bassas and Slaughter both made 2 free throws in the final 32 seconds to secure the win.

The reigning champs were cruising with lead sin the 20s before Slask rallied in the fourth quarter.

Veolia Towers Hamburg narrowly avoided a would-be historic collapse in beating Cedevita Olimpija Ljubljana 83-86 to claim its first victory of the season after nearly blowing a 28-point lead. In a battle of winless teams at the bottom of Group A, Hamburg was leading 42-70 late in the third quarter but Cedevita trimmed the deficit to one point in the waning seconds. The biggest comeback in BKT EuroCup history was 24 points on multiple occasions.

Aljami Durham led the way with 21 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists for Hamburg, which improved to 1-6. Mark Hughes added 16 points - including 4 free throws in the closing seconds, Lukas Meisner scored 14 points and Aleksander Dziewa had 10 points and 6 rebounds. Cedevita is still looking for its first win at 0-7 despite Jaka Blazic scoring 24 points and Klemen Prepelic hitting for 23 points.

Both teams were slow to score in the early going with VJ King’s layup the first basket for 1-2 after nearly 2 minutes. The game went back and forth until Hamburg picked up 6 straight points for a 6-10 lead. Cedevita evened the game 12-12 and three more ties were followed by a Gregor Glas triple to push the hosts ahead 22-19 after 10 minutes.

Seth Hinrichs hit a three-pointer and helped Hamburg reclaim the lead 23-24. Cedevita went back ahead and was up 27-24 but then watched Meisner score 7 points in a 0-9 Hamburg run for a 27-33 advantage. Meisner added a second three-pointer and 2 free throws and Hughes chipped in a big dunk and triple as Hamburg was up 32-43. Cedevita pulled within 36-43 at intermission.

Nico Brauner came out of the break on fire with 3 three-pointers within 69 seconds and Hamburg went ahead 38-52. Cedevita just could not score at all and the guests got three-pointers from Durham in a 4-18 run over a 6-minute stretch for a 42-70 lead. Cedevita finally got some scoring with three baskets in 42 seconds to get within 48-70. The score was 49-74 after 30 minutes.

Cedevita started inspired in the fourth quarter with the first 16 points - three-pointers coming from Blazic and Glas - to trail 65-74. Durham’s jumper in the lane was Hamburg’s first points after more than 5 minutes. That did not stop the Cedevita surge with DJ Stewart’s 2 free throws making it 69-76 with 4 minutes to go. Blazic made it just a 2-point game with a three-pointer with 2 minutes remaining. Durham managed to convert a three-point play to slow down the hosts and Dziewa hit a big hook shot for a 74-81 cushion with 76 seconds remaining. Blazic drained another triple and it was again just 2 points, 79-81, with 37 ticks to go. Durham only split free throws and Jonas Wohlfarth-Bottmermann missed 2 foul shots as it remained a one-possession game. Prepelic could only make 1 free throw before Hughes twice drained two foul shots in the final 9.2 seconds to ice the game - with Prepelic hitting a three-pointer in between to make it 83-84.

Cedevita came from 28 down to get within 1 in the final minute.

The London Lions grabbed their fifth win in the 2023-24 EuroCup and remained undefeated outside of the English capital by downing Beşiktaş J.K. 80-83. Shooting the ball better made the difference.

The London Lions grabbed its fifth win in the 2023-24 BKT EuroCup Regular Season and remained undefeated outside the English capital by downing Besiktas Emlakjet Istanbul 80-83. Shooting the ball better made the difference.

Indeed, Besiktas did plenty of things right to keep its chances alive until the final buzzer. The hosts outrebounded London 38-31 and grabbed 10 more boards than their opponents, 27-17, in the second half. Besiktas also forced London to commit 11 second-half turnovers after getting just 4 before the break.

Besiktas finished the game with 16 offensive boards and London only pulled down 3. There is a logical explanation to those numbers, which is simply that London made far more shots than its opponent and that proved to be the difference in the game.

Besiktas hit 20 of 41 two-pointers (48.8%) and that number went down to 40%, 8-of-20, in the second half. The hosts also struggled from beyond the arc, burying just 10-of-33 three-pointers (30.3%). Those 44 missed shots were the key to the game; even though Besiktas did a fantastic job of getting second-chance opportunities, it was not enough.

On the other hand, London buried 19-of-31 two-pointers (61.3%) and hit half of its 22 attempts from beyond the arc. That's 23 missed shots against Besiktas's 44. London finished the game with more than 20 assists for the fifth time this season, dishing as many as 23. Matt Morgan had 7 while Jordan Taylor recorded 6.

The London Lions remained undefeated on the road in Group A of the 2023-24 BKT EuroCup by downing Besiktas Emlakjet Istanbul 80-83 at BJT Emlakjet Sports and Event Hall on Wednesday. Both teams now have a 5-2 record in Group A behind undefeated Paris Basketball (7-0). 

Gabe Olaseni paced the winners with 24 points on 10-of-15 two-pointers. Matt Morgan added 17 points, 8 rebounds and 7 assists for London. Jonah Mathews and Matthew Mitchell led Besiktas with 19 points apiece. Angel Delgado added a double-double of 18 points and 14 rebounds, 8 of which came on the offensive end.

Olaseni scored London's opening 8 points, then Matt Morgan's driving layup gave the guests a 5-10 lead. Mathews stepped up for Besiktas and Angel Delgado's layup tied it at 12-12. Leyton Hammons hit a triple and fed Kerem Konan for a layup, good for a 17-15 Besiktas advantage. Matt Morgan and Conor Morgan each struck from beyond the arc to make London regain a 19-25 margin after 10 minutes.

### Three-pointers kept London in charge

Matt Morgan remained on fire early in the second quarter to boost the guests' lead to 21-30. Egehan Arna and Delgado fueled a 9-0 run that Mitchell capped with back-to-back jumpers, tying the game at 30-30. Mo Soluade and Conor Morgan each nailed a three-pointer to make Besiktas call a timeout at 35-40. Soluade and Olaseni allowed London to hold on to a 42-46 lead at halftime.

### London stopped Besiktas's comeback

Delgado and Derek Needham took over after the break, bringing Besiktas within 47-48. Belgado soon scored around the basket to tie it at 53-53. Luke Nelson hit a jumper, Olaseni added a layup and Soluade a three-pointer in a 0-10 run that made it a double-digit game, 53-63. Mathews and Needham brought Besiktas a bit closer, 59-68, after 30 minutes.

### Besiktas rallied, London won

Matt Morgan followed a wild three-point play with a stop-and-pop three-pointer that seemed to break the game open, 61-74, with over 8 minutes left. Yigit Arslan and Delgado stepped up for the hosts, Mitchell followed a three-pointer with a layup-plus-foul and Hammonds also struck from downtown for a 78-82 Besiktas deficit with 53.5 seconds left. Mitchell scored around the basket with 7.5 seconds remaining to make it 80-82, then Jordan Taylor split free throws, setting an 80-83 score, and Hammonds missed from downtown at the buzzer.

Reyer picked up its first road win of the season taking control early and running past Wolves on Wednesday night in the Lithuanian capital. With the win, Reyer improved to 3-4 in Group A for a share of sixth place, while the Wolves dropped to 3-3 in their debut BKT EuroCup campaign. Reyer spent all but couple of possessions in front, and broke the game open with a 5-18 run bridging the third and fourth quarters behind 24 points from Barry Brown. Adas Juskevicius was the top scorer for the hosts with 15 points.

Gediminas Orelik was 8-for-14 from long range and finished with 31 points, 5 assists and 4 rebounds for the winners. Tyrone Wallace scored 22 for Turk Telekom.

Tai Odiase paced the winners with 19 points and Davon Reed contributed 16. Braian Angola led Hapoel with 18 points and J'Cowan Brown and Jaylen Hoard each had 15 in defeat.

Ulm clinched its fifth win by defeating visiting Buducnost at ratiopharm arena on Tuesday night. The game was tied at halftime, 37-37, but Ulm gave up only 2 field goals and 11 points in the third quarter, building a double-digit advantage that grew to 18 points, 75-57, entering crunch time. Trevion Williams posted a double-double of 13 points and 10 rebounds to lead Ulm, which improved to 5-2. Dakota Mathias followed with 13 points. Buducnost was paced by Yoan Makoundou, who was the game’s top scorer with 17 points, 13 of which came in the first half.

Paris remained unbeaten after a dramatic overtime road win in Badalona on Tuesday night. T.J. Shorts sent the game into overtime with a pair of free throws with 5.6 seconds left in regulation, and Nadir Hifi scored 7 of his game-high 27 points in overtime to improve Paris to 7-0 atop of Group A, while Joventut dropped to 3-4 in the standings. Malcolm finished with 18 points, Shorts with 13 points and 9 assists, and Tyson Ward collected 13 points plus 9 rebounds in a victory. Second place is at stake in Group A of the BKT EuroCup Regular Season on Wednesday as Besiktas and London put their opposing strengths to the test.

Besiktas vs. Lions is a strength-on-strength collision

The early part of the new BKT EuroCup season has produced many pleasant surprises. Among them, sitting in the top part of Group A, are [two teams squaring off on Wednesday in Round 7, Besiktas Emlakjet Istanbul (5-1) and London Lions (4-2)](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/eurocup/game-center/2023-24/besiktas-emlakjet-istanbul-london-lions/U2023/63/).

Besiktas, the only 4-0 team at home this season, will attempt to continue protecting the floor at BJL EmlakJet Sports & Event Hall against a visitor that holds a perfect 3-0 road record. That's a scenario that not many envisioned before this campaign tipped off.

Besiktas returned to the EuroCup this season after a seven-year hiatus. Over the summer, knowing it needed chemistry and tuning, Besiktas built a largely new roster head by former EuroCup Coach of the Year Dusan Alimpijevic, another newcomer to the club.

So, when Besiktas stunned Joventut Badalona for a 62-63 road triumph in the opening round, many people saw it as a big early-season upset more than anything else.

Mathews and Mitchell have led Besiktas to 5-1 record

Now that the Turkish side has a 5-1 record in Group A, that win over Joventut seems less and less like an upset. All Besiktas has done since then is continue to win and dominate on defense.

Entering this Round 7 contest, Besiktas ranks second in points-against defense, allow just 72.3 points, while holding opponents to a competition lows of 14.0 assists and 29.4% three-point shooting. 

The only loss Besiktas has suffered so far this season was an improbable 90-88 defeat at Wolves Vilnius, where it squandered a seven-point lead in the game's final 20 seconds.

Wednesday brings one of the biggest tests for Besiktas because on the opposite side will be the Lions, road winners already against two of last season's semifinalists, Prometey Slobozhanske and Joventut. The latter road win a week ago was the perfect bounce-back from home losses to Paris Basketball and Hapoel Shlomo Tel Aviv.

Besiktas has not shined on offense this season; just six teams score fewer than its 80.0 points per game. [Jonah Mathews](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/eurocup/players/jonah-mathews/011936/) is averaging 15.3 points and [Matthew Mitchell](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/eurocup/players/matthew-mitchell/012622/) 14.0, while [Angel Delgado](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/eurocup/players/angel-delgado/012647/) has been a force in the paint with 11.8 points and 8.2 rebounds. The team has no player averaging more than 3.3 assists.

London Lions have dominated on offense

Meanwhile, the main strengths of the London Lions, coached by Alimpijevic's Serbian countryman Petar Bozic, is their offense. Indeed, the Lions rank second with both 92.3 points and 22.5 assists this season, the exact categories that Besiktas excels at stopping.

[Matthew Morgan](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/eurocup/players/matthew-morgan/012585/) has starred for the Lions, averaging 19.0 points and 3.7 assist. Gabe Olaseni has been huge under the basket with 14.3 points and 7.8 rebounds along with 2.7 assists. And [Donte Grantham](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/eurocup/players/donte-grantham/012586/) is right behind, averaging 13.5 points, 7.0 rebounds and 2.3 assists. Veteran playmakers [Tarik Phillip](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/eurocup/players/tarik-phillip/009649/) and [Jordan Taylor](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/eurocup/players/jordan-taylor/005247/) combine to average 9.2 assists.

What made London's success even more notable was the absence of [Sam Dekker](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/eurocup/players/sam-dekker/009672/) in four of six games this season. He has since posted 18.0 points and 7.5 rebounds per game.

The Lions arrive to Istanbul with rising confidence and an offense that is clicking. Besiktas entered the season needing to learn a lot, but already has a top grade in winning games.

All signs point to a fun contest on Wednesday in Istanbul. 

The BKT EuroCup's top off-the-bench scorer in total points, Nadir Hifi of Paris Basketball, is barely 21 years old and boasts incredible shooting percentages.

The stars of Paris and young Nadir Hifi are rising quickly together

Another round, another stellar performance by a 21-year-old [Nadir Hifi](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/eurocup/players/nadir-hifi/012640/), who [led Paris Basketball to a thrilling 94-101 overtime win at Joventut Badalona](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/eurocup/game-center/2023-24/joventut-badalona-paris-basketball/U2023/62/) on Tuesday.

Hifi has taken the BKT EuroCup by storm this season, scoring in double figures in every game as Paris has zoomed to a 7-0 record, already two victories ahead of any other team in Group A.

The 1.85-meter guard already had a pair of 20-point performances entering Round 7, but Tuesday night in Badalona proved to be Hifi's best and most consequential performance to date.

He netted 27 points against Joventut, sinking 6 of 12 three-pointers, both highs so far in his rookie EuroCup season. He also made 3 of 5 two-pointers, pulled down 5 rebounds, including 4 on the offensive end, dished 2 assists and picked up 2 steals. All of that in 26 minutes off the bench.

"I was in a good rhythm," he said with a smile after the win. 

Hifi was already at 21 points with 4 minutes to go in the third quarter, having shot 5-for-8 from long range until then. He failed to score another basket in regulation, but that did not stop him from shining in overtime, when he posted the first 6 points for his team. His sixth triple fell on the opening possession of overtime, then a couple of minutes later Hifi converted a three-point play that showed his quickness and toughness on the fastbreak.

The theme of the night, however, was his three-point shooting.

"My guys got me open, so I took my shots that like I usually take, and I made them", he explained.

Hifi certainly has not been shy about taking the shots this season. Only two players this season have attempted more three-pointers than Hifi's 47, which comes out to 6.7 three-point attempts per game. More importantly, he has been making them at a 40.4% rate.

Paris has done a good job shooting from long range this season, and arrived into Round 7 as one of the best three-point shooting teams in the competition. But Paris struggled against Joventut, making 11 triples but on 34 attempts (32.4%).

Remove Hifi's long-range efforts, and the rest of the team went 5-of-22 (22.7%) against Joventut. It certainly made Hifi's three-point performance all more important and was the key in another Paris victory.

Hifi is now averaging 17.4 points in under 24 minutes on the floor, ranking sixth in scoring overall and tied for first on points per 40 minutes (29.6). Except Hifi, no other player in the EuroCup's top 35 scorers so far can boast shooting higher than 60% on two-pointers, 40% on three-pointers and 90% on free throws.

That's remarkable for any player, but especially for a young rookie playing his first seven games international competition.

The Lietkabelis forward tied a club record for scoring and made the biggest shots to lift his team to a come-from-behind overtime win.

Gediminas Orelik did 'his job' on a record-setting night

It was a performance for the ages. Or at least it felt like such.

On Tuesday night, [Gediminas Orelik](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/eurocup/players/gediminas-orelik/002012/) almost single-handedly shot 7bet-Lietkabelis Panevezys to [a thrilling come-from-behind 93-86 overtime win over Turk Telekom Ankara](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/eurocup/game-center/2023-24/7bet-lietkabelis-panevezys-turk-telekom-ankara/U2023/70/).

"Orelik is a player", Lietkabelis head coach Nenad Canak simply explained after a victory. "That means he is a basketball player, who knows everything."

The 33-year-old veteran, who made his EuroCup debut back in the 2009-10 season, earned this praise from his head coach after the best scoring night of his career. However, the spectacular fashion in which Orelik did it, and the timing of the shots he made, is what made it so memorable.

Orelik scored 14 of his career-best 31 points in the final 92 seconds of regulation, and overtime. He achieved it by knocking down a career-high 8 three-pointers.

"Did I make 8? ", Orelik asked with a smile in a post-game interview. "I did not know, I was just shooting my shots and they were falling in. I am happy for that, It is my job to make shots."

It was the most three-pointers made by a player in a single game since Josh Adams nailed 10 for Virtus Segafredo Bologna on December 22, 2020. Orelik also tied a club record in scoring, but was 1 three-pointer shy of the club record.

Gediminas Orelik lifted Lietkabelis with 8 three-pointers

Liektabelis trailed 62-77 with 6:55 to go in the fourth quarter when Orelik made a pair of free throws. He did not score another point until 1:32 left in regulation, with his team down 75-86.

But he hit back-to-back-to-back triples in exactly 60 seconds, his fifth, sixth and seventh three-pointer, before Donatas Sebeckis sent the game to overtime with a last-second basket.

In the extra session, there were no baskets for the opening 4 minutes and 23 seconds before, you guessed it, Orelik nailed his eighth three-pointer. He followed it up with a runner in the paint, his only two-point shot of the night, to seal the deal. Turk Telekom became the first team in competition history that failed to score in overtime, and huge celebrations at the Kalnapilio Arena could start.

"That was a crazy game", Orelik said. "In overtime, I saw we have emotions, but the energy was dead. We gave everything today."

Orelik has now scored in double-digits and made multiple three-pointers in each of the seven games this season. Averaging 3.9 triples per game, he is knocking them down at an impressive 45.0% accuracy.

All these numbers would matter a lot less if Lietkabelis did not pull out a win on Tuesday night. But now, with a 3-4 record and the winners of two straight, the red-hot Orelik and his teammates are very much alive, and on the way up, in the race for the playoffs.

Paris Basketball became the first BKT EuroCup team to seven wins this season, and kept its perfect record safe after a rollercoaster night in Badalona.

Unbeaten Paris showed 'guts' in OT win

On a night when a depleted Joventut Badalona was forced to give big minutes to its teenagers because guards Andres Feliz and Pau Ribas, and big men Ante Tomic and Vladimir Brodziansky were all unavailable due to injuries, Paris Basketball seemed to have taken control early. The visitors opened a 32-46 lead in the second quarter and still led by double digits midway through the third, only to see it all slip away.

"Huge respect to Joventut in this situation," Paris head coach Tuomas Ilsalo pointed out after the game.

"They have a lot of injuries, but the young guys really stepped up, gave them great energy, played with great confidence. We were really on the ropes over there."

Paris found itself down 80-73 with 5 minutes to go in the fourth quarter, and on the wrong end of a 21-6 run. But even though Paris had struggled offensively, especially shooting just 30.0% from downtown, it found a way to send the game into overtime. In the extra session, Paris took the lead and never relinquished it.

This is Paris's second win this season that has come in extra sessions, after it edged London Lions 102-106 in double-overtime, also on the road, in Round 4. In that game, Paris allowed a buzzer-beating game-tying triple at the end of regulation, and trailed by 5 points in the second OT, but did not allow another basket for almost 4 minutes, ending the game on a 0-9 run.

"This group has a lot of guts, has a lot of confidence," Ilsalo pointed out after the win in Badalona. "In the end, we were able to make the plays we needed."

No team has been as dominant as Paris this season, which has already won five games on the road. The team also has had three wins of 27 or more points plus a 17-point road triumph.

And while those blowout wins are more impressive, learning to survive close games is what takes teams on a long runs to contend for trophies.

After seven games this season, Paris has been doing a lot of both.
