### Turk Telekom wins in Bursa

In the Frutti Extra Cup, Turk Telekom Ankara downed Yukatel Merkezefendi Basket 83-70 in Bursa, Turkey. Axel Bouteille paced the winners with 31 points. Alihah Demir added 13 and 9 rebounds while Ridvan Ocel had 12 points for Turk Telekom, which made the difference in the second half. Both teams were tied, 44-44, at halftime, but Bouteille helped Turk Telekom get a 65-56 margin after 30 minutes, enough to control the game until the final buzzer. In other games, Gran Canaria registered a 77-91 home loss against Lenovo Tenerife. Jovan Kljajic had 17 points for Gran Canaria, which trailed 32-46 at halftime. Tenerife boosted its margin to 55-79 after 30 minutes and never looked back.

Top signings: EuroCup newcomers

### Henry Ellenson, Joventut Badalona

It is club policy; Joventut always looks for players with high basketball IQs and Ellenson fits the bill. He knows how to use his body in the paint, can open the floor with his outside shots and is an unselfish player who rarely makes mistakes. He averaged 11.0 points and 4.9 rebounds in 32 Spanish League games with Monbus Obradoiro last season, his first in Europe. His numbers should go up due to his added experience and playing alongside pass-first center Ante Tomic. 

### Semih Erden, Turk Telekom Ankara

At age 36, Erden is an unconventional newcomer in the competition. He has played most of his career in Turkey, taking part in 160 EuroLeague games with Fenerbahce Beko Istanbul, Anadolu Efes Istanbul, Darussafaka Dogus Istanbul and Partizan NIS Belgrade, and averaging 6.6 points and 4.2 rebounds. Erden remains an aggressive rebounder who can score in many ways around the basket, using his signature shot, the jump hook. 

### Kosta Koufos, London Lions

This was a somewhat surprising signing that could pay off handsomely as Koufos gives London the experience it needs to be competitive in the EuroCup. A young veteran at age 32, Koufos played in the NBA for 11 consecutive seasons and also suited up for EuroLeague powerhouses CSKA Moscow and Olympiacos Piraeus. He is an old-school center who gets the job done at both ends, intimidating on defense and scoring effectively on offense due to his good hands. 

### Jeremiah Martin, Slask Wroclaw

Slask needed a scoring guard to keep the same structure as last season and found one in Martin, a 25-year-old scoring machine trying to get better every day. After two years halfway between the NBA and the G League, Martin played for the New Zealand Breakers last season. He finished the 2021-22 campaign with German side Goettingen and averaged 16.8 points, 3.2 rebounds and 3.0 assists in nine games. Martin will look to continue filling the baskets, this time in the EuroCup. 

### Yago Mateus, ratiopharm Ulm

In recent years Ulm has specialized in finding young, interesting talents from all around the world. Mateus fits in that category as a 23-year-old playmaker who is already a star in Brazil. Most recently, he averaged 11.7 points and 4.0 assists in helping Brazil to a silver medal at the FIBA AmeriCup. Mateus can help the team in many ways and will be part of a fun-to-watch backcourt featuring up-and-coming stars Fedor Zugic and Juan Nuñez. What's not to like about Ulm this season? 

### Kendale McCullum, Veolia Towers Hamburg

McCullum seems to be a perfect fit for Hamburg, an unconventional team that plays at a high rhythm with great intensity and takes a lot of risks on defense. He led the 2021-22 German League in assists (7.4 apg.) and steals (2.4 spg.) while averaging 15.6 points in 29 games. McCullum narrowly missed a triple-double in a game against Hamburg in which he tallied 22 points, 10 rebounds, 8 assists and 6 steals. McCullum is now ready to lead Hamburg's run-and-gun offense. 

### Tai Odiase, Germani Brescia

Back in the competition after a season away, Brescia made sure it fortified its paint to be as competitive as possible. Odiase led the German League in blocks (1.4 bpg.) last season playing for EWE Baskets Oldenburg. After playing in Spain, Greece, the Dominican Republic, Germany and the United States, it is time for Odiase, right at the prime of his career, to showcase his athleticism, timing and winning mentality in the EuroCup. 

### Zeljko Sakic, 7Bet Lietkabelis Panevezys

It is almost unthinkable, but it's true. Sakic has played for 13 teams in his career and seven of them played the EuroCup at some point. Now, at the age of 34, he is set to make his EuroCup debut with Lietkabelis this season. Sakic is a power forward with unlimited shooting range, great ball-handling skills and a very high basketball IQ, who can read the game and use his experience and court vision to find the best options. He is expected to play a leading role in his second stint with Lietkabelis. 

### Tyrone Wallace, Paris Basketball

With a solid frontcourt, Paris needed a scoring ace to balance its roster and found one in Wallace, who comes off a strong season in the G League. He averaged 20.7 points, 5.8 rebounds and 4.8 assists in 20 games with Long Island. He has been a really good scorer for all four G League teams he has played for. Wallace may need an adjustment period but his one-on-one skills and great ability to score in many different ways should help him generate offense from day one. 

### Joseph Young, Promitheas Patras

Over the years, Promitheas had a very good eye for finding guards who can put the ball in the basket. Young is a combo guard with a very solid mid-range game, who can pull the trigger from beyond the arc, too. He led the 2019-20 Chinese League in scoring (38.1 ppg.) playing for Nanjing Tongxi Monkey Kings. Last season, he averaged 18.2 points, 3.5 rebounds, 4.8 assists and 1.3 steals in 46 G League games with Birmingham.

### Joventut falls in Catalan League final

FC Barcelona won the Catalan League for the 23rd time after defeating Joventut Badalona 82-92 in the final in Tarragona, Spain. Nikola Kalinic scored 11 of his team-high 17 points in the fourth quarter to lead Barcelona. Alex Abrines and Nicolas Laprovittola added 12 points apiece and Kyle Kuric scored 11. Henry Ellenson shined early as Joventut took a 14-5 lead. He finished with 10 first-quarter points, though Barcelona closed the gap to 21-17 after 10 minutes. Abrines led Barcelona on a 0-10 second-quarter run to grab a 37-41 advantage at the break. The margin grew to double figures in the third quarter, which finished with Barca ahead 59-68. Kyle Guy and Andres Feliz helped Joventut close the gap to 6 in the final stanza, but a strong finish by Kalinic allowed Barcelona to close out the win. Ellenson and Simon Birgander led Joventut with 16 points apiece, Ante Tomic scored 15 and Guy had 10.

### Bursaspor wins tourney opener

Frutti Extra Bursaspor opened the Frutti Extra Cup with an 81-78 victory over Manisa Buyuksehir, one of the newest teams in the Turkish League's first division. Onuralp Bitim led the way with 20 points and 5 assists, Anthony Clemmons tallied 12 points and 6 assists and Berkay Taskıran added 10 points.

Defending Polish League champion Slask Wroclaw came up short in its bid to win the Polish SuperCup, falling 81-94 to BM Stal Ostrow Wielkopolski. Slask went into the fourth quarter down 6 before Stal pulled away. Damian Kulig paced the winners with 24 points and Aigars Skele tallied 15 points and 7 assists. Jeremiah Martin led Slask with 25 points, Jakub Ziziol scored 19 and Aleksander Dziewa added 17.

 

Shorthanded ratiopharm Ulm lost at home 93-102 to MHP Riesen Ludwigsburg despite a strong showing from Josh Hawley, who posted 20 points and 8 rebounds. Karim Jallow paced Ulm with 21 points, Fedor Zugic added 14 and Matt Mobley 13.

Robinson (2.03 meters, 27 years old) played last season for Tauyuan Pilots in the Japanese League where he averaged 24.2 points, 12.5 rebounds and then for Piratas de Quebradillas in the Puerto Rican League, where he averaged 16.2 points, 5.8 rebounds and 1.2 steals per game. He has also played professionally for Washington in the NBA and for Delaware, Westchester, Capital City, Raptors 905 and Fort Wayne in the G-League since finishing his college basketball career at the University of Florida.

 

"Devin is a big man with a great jumping ability, outstanding rebound qualities and a variable offensive game,” Ulm’s Sports Director Thorsten Leibenath said. “He will stabilize our performance under the boards. Another talented player decides to use ratiopharm Ulm as a starting point for a European career."

Ulm adds Robinson to frontline 

ratiopharm Ulm checks in for its 10th season in the EuroCup – and eight in a row – with a largely new-look roster and a new man at the helm in head coach Anton Gavel. Although there have been many changes, some things remain the same in that Ulm’s squad features highly touted youngsters and reliable local veterans. A quarterfinalist last season, Coach Gavel and Ulm will surely be aiming high in 2023.

### BACKCOURT

There is no shortage of dynamic talent in the Ulm backcourt. All eyes will be on top prospect Juan Nunez, who is expected to get his chance to run the offense. After showing off his stuff in limited action, Nunez should have a big role in Ulm. He will share point guard duties with Yago Mateus dos Santos, a 23-year-old who will play in Europe for the first time after starring in his native Brazil. Thomas Klepeisz, a 45.7% three-point shooter in his two EuroCup seasons, can serve as an additional ballhandler or as a scorer alongside the main point guards. Matt Mobley could emerge as the team’s go-to scorer; he was second in the German League with 20.0 points per game for Frankfurt two seasons ago. Teenage swingman Fedor Zugic had a key role in the rotation last season and should see an uptick in minutes in his age-19 campaign.

### FRONTCOURT

Karim Jallow was a part-time starter at small forward last season, his third in the EuroCup, and should provide valuable leadership as well as athleticism at the position. Robin Christen gives the team a different look at the ‘3’ as an outside marksman. Latrell Grosskopf provides depth at the position in his first season with the senior team. Athletic power forward Josh Hawley will play at the high European level for the first time after impressing in recent seasons in Georgia and Romania. If the soon-to-be 26-year-old adapts, he could be a difference maker. Philipp Herkenhoff was one of the stars of last season’s eighthfinals upset of Joventut Badalona and should again have a big role on the frontline. Sagabe Konate, who arrived on a two-year deal, brings great athleticism to his first EuroCup season. Homegrown center Nicolas Bretzel enters his fifth EuroCup season despite being only 23 years old. He boasts soft hands and great size in the paint. 

### PLAYER TO WATCH

Juan Nunez cracked Real Madrid’s first team last season and made 10 appearances in the EuroLeague. He was on the 12-man roster for the championship game against Anadolu Efes Istanbul. Nunez made even more headlines over the summer as the MVP of the U20 European Championship before making his debut for the Spanish national team at the senior level. Now he looks to take the reins of the Ulm attack and prove himself over a full season. A lefty who can finish with both hands, Nunez is a creative player and excellent passer who will be fun to watch all season long.

### OUTLOOK

The start of the season will be interesting for fans of Ulm as the team brings a lot of young players and EuroCup debutants to the competition. However, the goal is not to start strong but to finish strong. The tail end of the regular season sees Ulm play three of its final four games at home, so even if the young players stumble out of the gate, as long as they pick up steam along the way, Ulm should be in the mix for a spot in the knockout stages and a fun team to watch along the way.

Roster rundown: ratiopharm Ulm

Celebrating club's 150th anniversary, Umana Reyer Venice hosted and beat the defending back-to-back Turkish Airlines EuroLeague champs Anadolu Efes Istanbul, 85-82 on Tuesday night. After a back-and-forth first half, Reyer used a 9-2 run to open 59-49 lead midway through the third quarter. Efes close the gap to 65-63, but a 7-0 run to start the fourth quarter put Reyer up 75-65. Efes rallied, and tied the game at 79-79, but Michael Bramos nailed a triple in penultimate minute, and Reyer held on to a victory. Bramos finished the game with 20 points, Allerik Freeman scored 15 and Derek Willis scored 12 in a victory. Will Clyburn had 23 points and 8 rebounds, while Vasilije Micic had 19 points and 11 assists for Efes.

Buducnost VOLI Podgorica won Ljubo Jovanovic Memorial tournament by beating KK Podgorica in the final, 81-57. Phil Booth scored 15 and Kenan Kamenjas had 12 points in a comfortable win.

Joventut Badalona came from behind to down Basket Manresa 89-96 and reach the final of Lliga Catalana tournament in Tarragona, Spain. Joventut trailed 62-50 midway through the thirs quarter, but used a strong finish to the quarter to go in front 69-70 after 30 minutes, then took control in the fourth to register a victory. Kyle Guy scored 18 points for Joventut, Pau Ribas had 16 and Ante Tomic 14 points in a victory.

U-BT Cluj-Napoca ended its preseason trip to Greece on a winning not, rallying from a double-digit halftime deficit to edge Lavrio 80-84. The hosts had a 17-point advantage, led 48-35 at halftime, but Cluj-Napoca turned things around in the second half with Andrija Stipanovic leading the way scoring 24 points. Patrick Richard added 14, and Jordan Taylor 14 points in a victory.

In its last preparation game, Cedevita Olimpija Ljubljana downed Adriatic League rival Cibona Zagreb 79-63 on its home court at Stozice Arena. A buzzer-beating triple from Yogi Ferrell made it 43-32 at halftime, and Cedevita Olimpija never looked back in the second half as Marko Radovanovic is top scorer in a victory with 13 points and 6 rebounds. Ferrell and Amar Alibegovic each had 12 points, while Josh Adams had 11 points and 7 rebounds.

### Zach Auguste, Frutti Extra Bursaspor

One of the best rebounders in the competition, Zach Auguste has amassed great EuroCup experience since making his debut in the 2018-19 campaign. At 29 years of age, Auguste has 46 appearances in his three EuroCup seasons with Galatasaray Istanbul and Cedevita Olimpija Ljubljana. He has averaged 10.9 points and 6.2 rebounds, which is the second-best rebounding average for players with more than 30 appearances since Auguste entered the competition. He will bring all of that into Bursaspor's paint this season.

### Ondrej Balvin, Prometey Slobozhanske

Ondrej Balvin returns to the EuroCup for the first time after four years away, but he is no stranger to this competition, having made his debut as a teenager more than a decade ago with Cajasol Seville. The big man who turns 30 this week, Balvin has played five EuroCup seasons during his career and no player on this list has more appearances than Baldvin's 55. He will bring plenty of experience to newcomer Prometey Slobozhanske.

The 27-year-old Axel Bouteille is both the youngest player as well as the player with the second most appearances on this list, 51. Bouteille, who made his debut in 2013 with Elan Chalon, has also played for Limoges CSP and Unicaja Malaga. He is a 45.3% career three-point shooter. With career averages of 11.2 points and 3.1 rebounds, Bouteille could be one of the go-to guys for a Turk Telekom squad that brought in nearly a dozen new players this summer.

This will be the fourth different Italian club for David Cournooh, who previously played in the EuroCup with Montepaschi Siena, Brindisi and most recently for Virtus Segafredo Bologna in the 2019-20 season. A seasoned veteran at 32 years of age, Cournooh will give Germani Brescia a great boost of experience in the club's own return to the competition after a year away.

### Conor Morgan, Slask Wroclaw

Conor Morgan never played in the EuroCup before the 2019-20 campaign, but the native of Canada has played in at least 15 games in each of the last three seasons. With a total of 48 appearances, Morgan has scored 8.4 points on 59.4% two-point shooting and grabbed 3.3 rebounds while playing 19 minutes per game. He has also knocked down 68 triples in his EuroCup career and should have a big role on a revamped Slask Wroclaw roster.

### Jordan Taylor, U-BT Cluj-Napoca

For its debut in the competition, Cluj has put its offense in the hands of veteran playmaker Jordan Taylor. Back in the competition for the first time in four years, the 32-year-old Taylor has played four seasons with four different teams in the competition. Wearing the uniforms of Virtus Rome, ALBA Berlin, Galatasaray Istanbul and Limoges CSP, Taylor has made 40 EuroCup appearances with averages of 9.6 points, 4.1 assists, 2.2 rebounds and 1.1 steals. His experience will be invaluable for Cluj in the club's first season in the competition.

This past May, Amedeo Tessitori was holding the EuroCup trophy after helping Virtus Segafredo Bologna win it all. Tessitori not only won it last season, but he also helped Virtus reach the semifinals a year earlier. The big man, who will turn 28 years of age in October, has come off the bench in 40 of his 48 career EuroCup appearances and now brings that championship-winning experience to Umana Reyer Venice, a team that does not lack ambitions this season.

### Michalis Tsairelis, Promitheas Patras

No player on this list made his EuroCup debut longer ago than 34-year-old big man Michalis Tsairelis, one of the summer additions of Promitheas Patras. Tsairelis first played in the competition with Aris Thessaloniki in the 2010-11 season. He played one more season with Aris and another with PAOK Thessaloniki and now Tsairelis returns to the EuroCup for the first time in almost nine years, ready to use his experience to help Promitheas to get back to the playoffs.

### Jonas Wohlfarth-Botterman, Hamburg Towers

Hamburg Towers will be the fourth different German team in the EuroCup for Jonas Wohlfarth-Botterman, who returns to the competition after a three-year hiatus. The 32-year-old center made his debut in 2013 with ALBA Berlin and has also played for ratiopharm Ulm and Fraport Skyliners. He enters this season with 48 appearances over five seasons, during which he's averaged 4.9 points and 2.9 rebounds.

### Tomislav Zubcic, London Lions

It's been a while since we witnessed Tomislav Zubcic on the EuroCup stage. He notched 42 appearances over five seasons between 2011 and 2017, a pair with each Cibona Zagreb and Cedevita Zagreb of his native Croatia and one with Nizhny Novgorod. The playmaking stretch-four is now a 32-year-old veteran who brings much-needed veteran experience and valuable versatility to the newcomer from the British capital.

This summer, once again, 7DAYS EuroCup teams signed a number of players with significant experience in the competition. These veterans are capable of making impacts on and off the court and are often needed in building winning teams. Here's a list of the top EuroCup veterans who have found new homes over the summer.

Buducnost VOLI Podiroga is into the final of the Ljubo Jovanovic Memorial Tournament after beating Sutjeska 99-90 in double overtime. Three of Buducnost's new arrivals this summer were able to get into double figures during this semifinal, as Trae Bell-Haynes, Phil Booth and Cameron Reynolds finished with 18, 13 and 11 points, respectively. Sutjeska, a team in the ABA League 2, made life difficult for the ABA League side, as it scored a two-pointer to send the game to overtime before Booth missed a chance to win the contest after the first extra period. During the second overtime period, Igor Drobnjak drained a three-pointer for Buducnost to open up a six-point lead en route to a nine-point victory. Buducnost will come up against Podgorica in the final.

Turk Telekom Ankara has made another addition to its roster after signing veteran point guard [Mehmet Yagmur](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/eurocup/players/mehmet-yagmur/000497/), who returns to the club he played for back in the 2010-11 season. Yagmur (1.88 meters, 35 years old) suited up for Besiktas during the last campaign, averaging 2.6 points, 1.7 rebounds and 1.1 assists in a limited role across 24 Turkish League games. He has previously played two seasons in the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague and four campaigns in the 7DAYS EuroCup. In the EuroLeague, he averaged 2.6 points and 1.0 assists in 25 appearances, with 13 starts. In the EuroCup, Yagmur's overall averages stand at 3.5 points, 1.3 rebounds and 1.8 assists in 47 games, of which four were as a starter.

Yagmur began his professional career with Besiktas in 2008-09 and made his EuroCup debut in that same campaign, averaging 2.2 points and 2.0 assists across six games in 14.0 minutes on the floor. He played for Tofas and Turk Telekom, both of Turkey, over the next two seasons before returning to Besiktas. The 2012-13 campaign saw Yagmur join Olin Edirne of Turkey, recording the highest scoring average of his career (14.0 points per game), but one year later he rejoined Besiktas. Yagmur left Besiktas for a third time in 2014 as he agreed to terms with Darussafaka, where he stayed for the following three seasons and appeared in 23 EuroLeague games in two of those campaigns. In 2017, Yagmur signed for Galatasaray and played 11 games in the EuroCup. His stay lasted for just one year, as he represented Istanbul BSB and ITU BB over the next two seasons. Yagmur then came back to Besiktas for the fourth time in his career in 2020 and remained there until this summer.
