Gran Canaria faces new challenges every year as it looks to achieve its ultimate goal: lifting the EuroCup trophy. Ahead of the 2022-23 EuroCup season, here are four of the most interesting games for Gran Canaria fans to look forward to. 

### Round 5: New opponents

Leaning on its experience in the EuroCup, Gran Canaria has the chance to get off to a good start in this season's competition. In fact, it goes against three newcomers in consecutive rounds, as Coach Jaka Lakovic's team faces the London Lions and Paris Basketball in Rounds 3 and 4, respectively, before taking on Hapoel Tel Aviv at Gran Canaria Arena. Using its experience in these three games could put Gran Canaria in the driver's seat in Group B.

### Round 10: Familiar faces in Poland

A.J. Slaughter and Olek Balcerowski will already have one eye on Gran Canaria's road game against Slask Wroclaw. Balcerowski is originally from Swidnican, which is a one-hour drive from Wroclaw, so there should be some of his family and friends in the stands. Slaughter plays for the Polish national team and is set to face some players he knows very well. Make no mistake: once the ball goes up in the air, it is going to be a basketball battle!

### Round 12: Visiting a new country

Gran Canaria always makes long trips and in the EuroCup it has played games in 24 different countries: Croatia, Austria, Germany, Spain, Serbia, France, Belgium, the Netherlands, Greece, Lithuania, Poland, Estonia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Turkey, Italy, Switzerland, the Czech Republic, Croatia, Montenegro, Ukraine, Russia, Israel, North Macedonia and Andorra. Great Britain now joins this list, as Gran Canaria visits the London Lions.

### Round 17: Home-court advantage in sight

Gran Canaria plays three of its last four games at home, which is always a plus. Its last regular season road game, however, could be one of its trickiest, as it faces a potential opponent for first place in Group B: Buducnost VOLI Podgorica. These teams have faced each other eight times in the past and Gran Canaria has a 3-1 record in the Montenegrin capital. This game will feel like the playoffs have arrived early.

One of the most experienced clubs in the competition's history, Gran Canaria is entering its 15th season in the 7DAYS EuroCup.

2022-23 Games to watch: Gran Canaria

ratiopharm Ulm has signed top prospect Juan Nunez to a three-year deal, the club announced Monday. Nunez (1.92 meters, 18 years old) is a product of the Real Madrid youth system and he made his Turkish Airlines EuroLeague debut last season. He took part in 10 games off the bench during which he totaled 14 points, 8 assists and 3 steals. 

More recently Nunez led Spain to the gold medal at the U20 European Championship in July in Podgorica, Montenegro. He was named tournament MVP after averaging 11.6 points, 4.9 assists and 1.6 steals per game despite being among the younger players at the event. Last week Nunez debuted with Spain’s senior men’s national team, too.

"In Juan we are getting someone who has already achieved a lot at a young age and has led many teams to success," Coach Anton Gavel said on the team's website. "He was named MVP of the U20 European Championship this summer as a younger year and won gold with his team. Besides that he got his assignments in the Spanish ACB and in the EuroLeague. He was able to learn from the best players in Europe. He should now take the next steps with us and take on more responsibility.”

Ulm snags top prospect Nunez

Three teams made most of the headlines in the 7DAYS EuroCup over the past week with several major moves to prepare for the 2022-23 season. 

### London puts finishing touches on squad

No team was busier than the London Lions, who put the finishing touches on a promising squad ahead of their debut in the competition. Three of them have significant experience in the EuroCup. Power forward Sam Dekker and center Tomislav Zubcic give the team a fresh look on the frontline. Great Britain international Tarik Phillip has played in the EuroCup in two of the last three seasons. His backcourt mate Aaron Best is playing for London head coach Ryan Schmidt this summer in the Canadian Elite Basketball League. Together these players should give the Londoners hope for a great debut.

### Slask brings in veteran trio

Slask prepared its fans for what is called “Transfer Weekend” and for good reason. The Polish champs brought in three veteran players – including two with EuroCup experience – as the roster continued to fall into place. First, on Friday, came the signing of point guard Jeremiah Martin, who made his European debut last season in Germany with Goettingen. A day later and Martin had a big man to feed the ball to after the team penned a deal with center Art Parakhouski, a two-time EuroCup Quarterfinalist. Transfer weekend closed with the addition of stretch-4 Conor Morgan, who reached the EuroCup Semifinals last season with MoraBanc Andorra.

### Cluj roster takes shape

U-BT Cluj-Napoca was the other busy team in the week that was with a pair of deals announced on Friday. While veteran swingman Karel Guzman will remain with the club for a third season, small forward Leandro Meindl came aboard. Meindl, from Brazil, comes off a string season in the Spanish League with Fuenlabrada. Both players, like the club itself, will debut in the EuroCup this season.

Slask Wroclaw's "Transfer Weekend" continued on Sunday with the signing of forward [Conor Morgan](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/eurocup/players/conor-morgan/009680/) for the coming season. Morgan (2.06 meters, 28 years old) was part of the Morabanc Andorra team that reached the semifinals of last season's 7DAYS EuroCup. He averaged 7.5 points and 3.6 rebounds in 15 EuroCup games for Andorra. Curiously, his highest-scoring game last year came against Slask; he finished with 17 points in 23 minutes. He is now entering his fourth year in the competition, having previously represented Joventut Badalona in the 2019-20 and 2020-21 seasons.

Across Morgan's three seasons in the EuroCup, he has made a total of 48 appearances, of which 20 have been as a starter. His overall averages stand at 8.4 points and 3.3 rebounds. Morgan, a member of the Canadian national team, played college basketball at the University of British Colombia before beginning his professional career with Southland Sharks of New Zealand. He spent the 2017-18 season with Southland before joining Joventut, where he remained between 2018 and 2021. Now, after one season with Andorra and four years in Spain, he will try a new experience in Poland with Slask.

The London Lions added another weapon to their backcourt by signing shooting guard Aaron Best for the coming season. 

London puts Best in backcourt

Best (1.93 meters, 29 years old) arrives from the Hamilton Honey Badgers of the Canadian Elite Basketball League, where he has played under Coach Ryan Schmidt, who will also coach him in London. Best has averaged 12.3 points and 1.5 assists so far this season in the CEBL. The Canadian native also played for Raptors 905 in the G-League last season. Best has previous European experience with PAOK Thessaloniki in Greece, Boulazac in France, MHP Riesen Ludwigsburg in Germany and Juventus in Lithuania.

Slask Wroclaw has added a center to its roster with plenty of experience in the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague and the 7DAYS EuroCup, as Artsiom Parakhouski has agreed to play for the team next season.

Parakhouski (2.11 meters, 34 years old) arrives from Parma of Russia, where he averaged 9.4 points, 7.7 rebounds, 1.1 assists and 1.2 blocks in 11 VTB League games last season. He returns to the EuroCup after one season away. Slask will be the seventh team he represents in the competition.

Parakhouski has played a total of 62 games across seven seasons in the EuroCup, during which time he has posted averages of 9.4 points, 5.5 rebounds and 1.2 blocks. He made his EuroCup debut with VEF Riga of Latvia in 2010-11. Since then, he has gone on to play in the competition for Hapoel Jerusalem of Israel (2013-14), UNICS Kazan of Russia (2015-16), Rytas Vilnius of Lithuania (2018-19), Partizan NIS Belgrade of Serbia (2019-20) and Andorra of Spain (2020-21). In addition, Parakhouski has experience playing in the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague, having suited up for Nizhny Novgorod of Russia (2014-15), UNICS (2016-17) and Maccabi Tel Aviv of Israel (2017-18). He made 82 appearances in the EuroLeague over those three seasons, recording averages of 10.4 points, 5.1 rebounds and 1.4 blocks. In his career, Parakhouski has also suited up for Eskisehir of Turkey, SIG Strasbourg of France, Tsmoki-Minsk of Belarus and Parma.

Slask bulks up with experienced center Parakhouski

### Round 1: Starting off strong

Reyer kicks off its regular-season campaign on the road against ratiopharm Ulm on October 11. Ulm made it to the quarterfinals of last season's EuroCup and it has hopes of once again reaching the latter stages, yet Reyer has the chance to get its campaign off to a good start by grabbing a win at ratiopharm arena. After losing against Ulm in Germany last season – before winning at home later in the campaign – Reyer will be keen to not make the same mistake this time around. New Reyer signing Derek Willis also returns to his former home, as he played for Ulm in the 2019-20 season.

### Round 7: Facing last season's runner-up

On December 6, Reyer welcomes Frutti Extra Bursaspor to Palasport Taliercio. Last season saw Bursaspor do the double over Reyer, which means revenge could be on the cards this time around. Bursaspor surprised everyone by reaching the EuroCup Championship Game last season, and head coach Dusan Alimpijevic will be looking for his team to repeat the same feat again. However, Reyer now has one of the stars of Bursaspor's team on its roster in Allerik Freeman, who averaged 19.6 points, 2.4 rebounds and 2.8 assists for Coach Alimpijevic's side in the first half of the season before joining CSKA Moscow in February.

### Round 13: A tough road test

As the teams in the EuroCup sharpen their focus on the playoff race, Reyer has a tough trip to face Cedevita Olimpija Ljubljana. These two won a game apiece against one another last season, with the home side winning each time. Although the 2021-22 season ended in disappointment for Cedevita as it lost out to Bursaspor in the quarterfinals, it has brought back most of its players as it goes in search of EuroCup glory. If Reyer emerges victorious from Arena Stozice, it should be full of confidence going into the last few games of the regular season.

### Round 17: Sending the fans home happy

Like Reyer, one of the teams that is expected to be among the favorites to come out of Group A is Joventut Badalona, Derek Willis's team from last season. This clash-of-the-titans match comes at a point in the season where there is a lot on the line. Reyer knows that winning in its final home game of the regular season will set it up nicely ahead of the playoffs. There are some fixtures in the EuroCup calendar that all basketball fans will be tuning in to watch, and this is one of those games.

It will be looking to improve upon last year's eighthfinals exit to Boulogne Metropolitans 92, and expectations are high at Palasport Taliercio. Ahead of the EuroCup Regular Season, here are four games for Reyer fans to circle in their calendars.

2022-23 Games to Watch: Umana Reyer Venice

U-BT Cluj-Napoca has announced that Karel Guzman will remain with the team for the upcoming season. Guzman (1.95 meters, 27 years old) averaged 9.1 points, 3.4 rebounds, 1.5 assists and 1.5 steals in 33 Romanian League matches for Cluj last season. In addition, he posted averages of 8.2 points, 4.2 rebounds, 1.5 assists and 1.4 steals in 17 Basketball Champions League games during the 2021-22 campaign. Guzman is entering his third season on Cluj's roster.

Guzman, a native of Cuba and a member of the Cuban national team, began his professional career in the 2017-18 season, as he played for Ciclista Juninense of Argentina. He then went on to represent Ciclista Olimpico, also of Argentina, for the next two years before moving to Romania to join Cluj in 2020. While he has been with Cluj, Guzman has lifted two Romanian League titles.

Slask Wroclaw has confirmed the arrival of Jeremiah Martin for the upcoming season. Martin (1.90 meters, 26 years old) joins from Goettingen of Germany, where he averaged 16.8 points, 3.2 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 1.6 steals in nine German League matches last season. He also spent the first part of the 2021-22 campaign with New Zealand Breakers, averaging 12.3 points, 2.9 rebounds, 3.4 assists and 1.1 steals in 10 Australian League games. Martin will make his 7DAYS EuroCup debut next season.

Martin played college basketball for Memphis University for four years before embarking upon his professional career in the 2019-20 campaign with Sioux Falls of the G League. He then alternated between Brooklyn of the NBA and Long Island of the G League in the following season. The next year saw Martin continue to play for Long Island, but he finished the campaign with Cleveland of the NBA. Last summer, he took the decision to test his luck abroad, signing for New Zealand Breakers and later Goettingen.
