FC Bayern Munich had to battle very hard to outscore Maccabi Playtika Tel Aviv 98-89 at home in Round 11. Maccabi was without Darrun Hilliard and Wade Baldwin, but Lorenzo Brown almost had a record-breaking night.
Bayern survived Brown's career night
Brown finished the game with a career-high 36 points, one shy of Maccabi's all-time record, and it is also the best scoring mark in the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague so far this season. Maccabi's record is shared by Sarunas Jasikevicius and Scottie Wilbekin. Jasikevicius had 37 points in a home game against Zalgiris Kaunas on April 8, 2004. It was a do-or-die game for both teams to advance to the Final Four and Derrick Sharp forced overtime with one of the most iconic shots in EuroLeague history. Maccabi prevailed 107-99 and went on to win the 2004 EuroLeague crown. Most recently, Wilbekin had 37 points in a 95-84 win against AS Monaco on November 17, 2021.

Brown hit 11-of-14 two-point shots, 1-of-2 three-pointers and 11-of-12 free throws, in addition to adding 3 rebounds, 7 assists, 2 steals and 10 fouls drawn for a personal-best PIR of 43, which matches the EuroLeague season-high set by Sasha Vezenkov of Olympiacos Piraeus. Anthony Parker has Maccabi's PIR record with 47 against ASVEL on November 18, 2004. Nikola Vujcic is second with a PIR of 46, followed by Johnny O'Bryant with 44.
On the other hand, Brown tied Maccabi's record for most turnovers with 8, which is also a EuroLeague season-high. Wilbekin previously had 8 turnovers against Olympiacos on January 12, 2021. Despite that, Brown was unstoppable and almost single-handedly led Maccabi to a road win, but instead it was Bayern who prevailed.
