Daniel Hackett pens new deal at Virtus until 2026
Virtus Segafredo Bologna has secured the services of Daniel Hackett for another two seasons, with the guard penning a contract extension until the end of the 2025-26 season on Tuesday.
Hackett (1.96 meters, 36 years old) is having a wonderful season as the lead ball handler for a resurgent Virtus side, averaging 9.1 points, 3.3 rebounds, 4.0 assists, 1.0 steal and a 12.2 PIR.
Following the departure of Milos Teodosic, first-year head coach Luca Banchi decided to place the keys to the offense in the hands of Hackett. That extra responsibility has paid dividends, too, as Virtus is currently sat third in the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague standings with a 15-7 record.
A EuroLeague veteran
Hackett is in his third season at Virtus, having joined in the latter stages of the 2021-22 campaign, but he’s in his 13th go-around in the EuroLeague. He helped Virtus become the 2021-22 BKT EuroCup champion after playing nine games for the Italian club, while he also won the EuroLeague back in the 2018-19 season while playing for CSKA Moscow.
In total, Hackett has played 296 games in the EuroLeague and has career averages of 8.3 points, 2.6 rebounds, 3.0 assists and a 9.7 PIR. He made his EuroLeague debut for Montepaschi Siena in the 2012-13 campaign and played the first part of the 2013-14 season there, before joining EA7 Emporio Armani Milan, where he played until 2015. Then came a two-year stint at Olympiacos Piraeus between 2015 and 2017, followed by a year at Brose Bamberg in 2017-18, four years at CSKA and now two years at Virtus.
The Hackett story at Virtus is now set to continue for another two years, which is great news for the club’s fans.
