Fenerbahce Beko Istanbul added an anchor in the paint with the signing of center Tonye Jekiri, the club announced Monday. The deal is for one season with an option for a second. Jekiri (2.12 meters, 27 years old) arrives from UNICS Kazan where he ranked fourth in the EuroLeague with 6.5 rebounds per game and second with 2.9 offensive rebounds per game last season. In his 24 appearances, Jekiri also averaged 7.6 points on 63.1% two-point shooting along with 1.0 steals.

Jekiri was the second-best rebounder in the 2019-20 campaign, his rookie EuroLeague season, in which he posted 7.5 rebounds per game in an LDLC ASVEL Villeurbanne uniform. The Nigerian big man also played a season with Baskonia Vitoria-Gasteiz, and has 81 career appearances in the competition, averaging 7.4 points and 6.3 rebounds.
Born in Lagos, Nigeria, Jekiri started his professional basketball career with Bandirma Kirmizi of Turkey. He also played for Telenet Ostend of Belgium and Gaziantep Basketbol of Turkey before joining ASVEL in 2019. He has been a member of the Nigerian basketball team, too.
