Madar (1.90 meters, 23 years old) returns to Hapoel after coming through the club's academy and playing in the first team between 2018 and 2021. 

The Israeli guard spent the first part of this season with [FC Bayern Munich](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/euroleague/teams/fc-bayern-munich/mun/) in the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague, averaging 4.2 points, 1.4 rebounds and 1.6 assists in five games off the bench.

Madar has spent the last three seasons playing among the best of the best in the EuroLeague, having featured in the league for [Partizan Mozzart Bet Belgrade](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/euroleague/teams/partizan-mozzart-bet-belgrade/par/) (2022-23), [Fenerbahce Beko Istanbul](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/euroleague/teams/fenerbahce-beko-istanbul/ulk/) (2023-24) and most recently Bayern (2024-25).

During his rookie EuroLeague season with Partizan, Madar helped the team reach the playoffs and was [later rewarded with the EuroLeague's Rising Star award](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/euroleague/news/yam-madar-is-the-2022-23-euroleague-rising-star-winner/) for his efforts throughout the campaign.

With Hapoel competing in the BKT EuroCup, this will be the 23-year-old's second year in the competition with Partizan in 2021-22. That season, he averaged 8.6 points, 2.9 rebounds and 2.8 assists as Partizan made it to the eighthfinals.

The addition of Madar should strengthen Hapoel's odds of going far in this season's EuroCup, with the team having gone 5-3 so far in Group A, good for third place in the standings.

Everybody knows about the significance of *El Clásico*, but the 37th edition of this legendary fixture between FC Barcelona (7-4) and Real Madrid (5-6) in the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague this century should bring plenty of intrigue. On the morning of game day, which team do the [Euroleague.net](http://Euroleague.net) experts think will come out on top?

**Geoff:** Over the last five years, Barcelona has dominated in regular-season matchups against Real Madrid (7-3 since 2019), but *Los Blancos* have twice come out on top against their archrivals at the Final Four in that time (2022, 2023). More recently, Chus Mateo's men are yet to win on the road this season and Barcelona has given up 100+ points in back-to-back games for the first time in EuroLeague history. Making a prediction in that context certainly makes things complicated, but I think Real Madrid will get back on track and stun the Palau Blaugrana crowd by coming away with the win, one day before Barcelona turns 125 years old.

Geoff’s prediction: **Real Madrid by 3-6 points.**

**Igor:** In general, Barcelona has looked better than Real Madrid so far this season, but not last week when it got blown out in Munich. Meanwhile, *Los Blancos* struggled defensively in the first half against ALBA Berlin in Round 11 before pulling away to a double-digit win. However, I think Barcelona will bounce back this week and I feel this game means more to Barcelona than it does to Real. That might sound a bit strange. After all, Barcelona has a 7-4 record, which is two wins more than Real. But simply looking at their recent history, and *Los Blancos* winning the majority of important games between the two sides, I think this one is a must-win for Barcelona. I think they pull it out, getting the Real Madrid monkey off their back.

Igor's prediction: **Barcelona wins by 7.**

**Javi:** In general, *El Clásico* is one of the hardest games to predict in world sports, as Real and Barca know everything about each other and more often than not, small details can make a huge difference. In particular, this game has not come at the best time for either of the teams: Real is looking for its first road win in this EuroLeague season, while Barcelona lost its last two showdowns. This past summer saw the *Azulgrana* sign Youssoupha Fall and Justin Anderson, two players to use against Real Madrid stars Walter Tavares and Facu Campazzo, respectively. It also plays at home and the atmosphere at Palau Blaugrana will be electric. On the other hand, Real has a core of players that have been together in many games like this, plus Dzanan Musa is back and *Los Blancos* have not won a EuroLeague Clásico at Palau since 2018. That's why I am going for the unexpected: Real breaks its road losing streak with a stunning performance against its archrival.

Javi's prediction: **Real wins by 7.**

**Frankie:** If the playoffs began today, two things are true. First, it would be pretty odd because it’s still November. Second, it would be pretty odd because both FC Barcelona and Real Madrid would be in the Play-In Showdown. Which is another way to say, both teams really need this win. Barcelona is coming off back-to-back blowout losses, including at home to Paris Basketball. Real is winless on the road this season. That detail alone should be enough to feel confident in Barcelona, which is also welcoming Raul Neto into the rotation this week. If you asked me to pick this game in September, I would have said Real hands down as the team with more talent and chemistry. If you had asked me two weeks ago, I would have said Barcelona hands down as the team getting the most of its talent. Today? This game could go either way. My gut says stick with Barcelona. We have not seen the best of real yet this season and I don’t think it will happen in *El Clásico*.

Punter, who got to experience the Belgrade derby during his three years as a [Partizan Mozzart Bet Belgrade](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/euroleague/teams/partizan-mozzart-bet-belgrade/par/) player, is looking forward to what awaits Barcelona on Thursday night (20:45 CET), one day before the *Azulgrana* celebrate their 125th anniversary.

“It’s a lot of pride, it’s a lot of bragging rights,” Punter said in a feature interview. “Those derby games are not just regular games, everybody knows that. But the most important thing is obviously to win.”

“I played in real, real crazy derbies, so I understand exactly what’s at stake,” he added. “Understanding who you’re playing against and how those games work. It takes experience to play in those games. I pretty much did the same thing last year when I was with Partizan, so I understand how those games go.”

Ahead of his first Clásico as an FC Barcelona player, Kevin Punter spoke about what he expects heading into this game against Real Madrid.

AS Monaco Basket has appointed Vassilis Spanoulis, a three-time EuroLeague champion as a player and the current Greek national team play-caller, as its new head coach.

The 42-year-old [replaces Sasa Obradovic](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/euroleague/news/sasa-obradovic-sacked-as-monaco-basket/), who guided Monaco over the last three seasons. The principality club has a 7-4 record in the EuroLeague so far this season, with interim head coach [Manuchar Markoishvili securing a victory in Round 11](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/euroleague/news/coach-markoishvili-elie-okobo-enjoyed-a-night-to-remember-against-asvel/) in his only game in charge.

Peculiarly enough, Spanoulis's first two games on the Monaco bench will come against Panathinaikos AKTOR Athens (on Friday night) and Olympiacos Piraeus (the following Wednesday), two clubs he knows very well.

He spent his first four EuroLeague seasons with the Greens, winning the 2009 EuroLeague title, but broke the supporters' hearts by moving to archrival Olympiacos Piraeus in 2010. 

With the Reds, he wrote his name into EuroLeague – and Olympiacos – legend by leading the team to back-to-back EuroLeague titles in 2012 and 2013. Spanoulis played for Olympiacos for 11 seasons before retiring in 2021.

Spanoulis, a three-time EuroLeague champion as a player and until last season the all-time top scorer in the competition, will take charge of a Monaco side with big ambitions. The team is headlined by [Mike James](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/euroleague/players/mike-james/005985/), the reigning EuroLeague MVP and the man who [took over as the competition's all-time leading scorer](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/euroleague/news/mike-james-becomes-the-euroleague-all-time-leading-scorer/) last season.

For Spanoulis, this will be his EuroLeague coaching debut, nearly three years after he took his first coaching steps [as the head coach of the Next Generation Teams](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/ngt/news/spanoulis-led-next-generation-teams-offer-young-talents-new-opportunity/) in a series of Adidas NextGen EuroLeague tournaments.

Over the past two seasons, Spanoulis had been the head coach of Peristeri Athens. During that time he led the team to its first-ever Greek Cup final appearance in 2023 and the FIBA Champions League Final Four, a competition where he was also honored as Coach of the Year. Spanoulis also serves as the Greek national team coach.

As a player, Spanoulis shined on the biggest of stages and in clutch moments, as he defined what it means to be a clutch player in the EuroLeague.

His legacy was built on game-changing performances on the biggest stage. He assisted [Georgios Printezis](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/euroleague/players/georgios-printezis/amm/) for the shot of the last decade to win the 2012 EuroLeague title, the first for Olympiacos in 15 years. Then, one year later, he blew up the 2013 championship game with 5 three-pointers among 22 second-half points to complete a 17-point comeback that helped the Reds become back-to-back champions.

Spanoulis finished his career with 4,455 points, 518 three-pointers made and 1,607 assists, and he remains the only player in EuroLeague history to have amassed more than 4,000 points and 1,500 assists.

He now takes on another EuroLeague journey, this time roaming the sidelines.

Baskonia has confirmed that Timothe Luwawu-Cabarrot suffered a calf injury in Round 11 of the 2024-25 EuroLeague season and is currently sidelined.

As the club states, the injury occurred during [Baskonia's Round 11 defeat at Olympiacos Piraeus](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/euroleague/news/olympiacos-stays-hot-to-roast-baskonia-92-69/) last Thursday night.

"During the game against Olympiacos, corresponding to the 11th round of the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague, Timothe Luwawu Cabarrot suffered a calf injury," Baskonia said. "Tests carried out by the club's medical services after his return to Vitoria-Gasteiz confirmed an injury to the inner calf of his left leg. The French player is already working on his recovery and his evolution will mark his return to the dynamic with his teammates."

The American center is in his third year as a professional, having played for Besiktas Fibabanka Istanbul (2022-23), Darussafaka and Galatasaray (2023-24), and now Milan and ALBA. 

At Besiktas, McCormack posted 9.1 points and 7.4 rebounds in 23 Turkish League games. Then with Darussafaka, he averaged 12.2 points and 5.8 boards in five Basketball Champions League fixtures, before posting 13.2 points and 6.8 rebounds in 10 BCL games with Galatasaray.

Round 12 marks the end of a busy November in the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague Regular Season. A lot of players have been playing well lately and that is good news for [EuroLeague Fantasy Challenge](https://euroleaguefantasy.euroleaguebasketball.net/) managers, who have created over 400,000 teams and counting.

This week, I am highlighting several budget options, as well as my superstar of choice. Here are my recommendations for Round 12.

Sertac Sanli, Roman Sorkin. TJ Shorts, Ziga Samar and Jabari Parker are featured in this week's article.

EuroLeague Fantasy tips: Round 12

### Ziga Samar, ALBA Berlin (4.8 credits)

There were three ALBA players worth less than 5.0 credits who were great against Real Madrid: Jonas Mattisseck, Malte Delow and [Ziga Samar](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/euroleague/players/ziga-samar/007550/). I believe Samar has the biggest upside due to his outstanding passing skills and tremendous self-confidence. ALBA plays at home in Turn 1, so Samar should be a great "what-if" option to start the round.

### Roman Sorkin, Maccabi Playtika Tel Aviv (8.2 credits)

Maccabi has not won a EuroLeague game in November but some of its players have stepped up big. [Roman Sorkin](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/euroleague/players/roman-sorkin/011219/) has been one of them, averaging 16.0 points, 4.7 rebounds and 1.3 steals for a PIR of 18.0 over his last three games. Maccabi needs his effectiveness and leadership in its game in Berlin. At 8.2 credits, he is a fantasy bargain.

### TJ Shorts, Paris Basketball (16.4 credits)

It is going to be a tight race to be MVP of November and [TJ Shorts](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/euroleague/players/tj-shorts/012608/) is one of the main candidates. In the last four games, Shorts has averaged 19.8 points on 80.0% three-point shooting, 8.3 assists and 8.0 fouls drawn for a PIR of 25.3. Paris plays at home, looking for its eighth consecutive victory. All eyes will be on Shorts, who has been just unstoppable!

### Zalgiris Kaunas vs. Baskonia Vitoria-Gasteiz (19:00 CET)

Zalgiris (7-4) will look to protect its position in the playoff places with a visit from struggling Baskonia (4-7), which is targeting a first road win. Although Zalgiris's prime strength is disciplined defense, recent addition [Lonnie Walker](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/euroleague/players/lonnie-walker-iv/013403/) is getting better with every game and 19 points from [Deividas Sirvydis](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/euroleague/players/deividas-sirvydis/007029/) in last week's win over Panathinaikos showed that he is also a force to be reckoned with. Pablo Laso's men have dropped to five straight losses due to a misfiring offense which has scored less than 70 points in three of those games, and would love to see star guard [Markus Howard](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/euroleague/players/markus-howard/011948/) start to show his undoubted class after going scoreless through Rounds 9 and 10 before netting 12 points last time out.

### ALBA Berlin vs. Maccabi Playtika Tel Aviv (20:00 CET)

Two teams in a rut will battle it out for a much-needed victory as ALBA (2-9) welcomes Maccabi (3-8). The German team must fix a leaky defense which has allowed 98 and 115 points in the last two games, but hopes fast-rising swingman [Gabriele Procida](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/euroleague/players/gabriele-procida/008384/) can maintain his hot streak after scoring in double digits for five consecutive games. Maccabi has lost four games in a row despite guard [Rokas Jokubaitis](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/euroleague/players/rokas-jokubaitis/007519/) driving the team with 9.9 points and 5.5 assists per game, and this meeting between the worst and third-worst defenses in the league (respectively allowing 90.5 and 87.1 points per game) could be settled by the question of which team can get some stops.

Boosted by victory in last week's Belgrade derby, Partizan (3-8) will look to build more momentum with a tough test against high-flying Olympiacos (8-3), which is aiming for a seventh straight win. Olympiacos dishes more assists than any other team (21.6 per game), so disrupting that rhythm will be key for Partizan.

### Paris Basketball vs. Virtus Segafredo Bologna (20:30 CET)

Unstoppable Paris (8-3) and the incredible [TJ Shorts](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/euroleague/players/tj-shorts/012608/) will aim to make it eight wins in a row with a visit from lowly Virtus (2-9). The world's greatest sporting rivalry will see Barcelona (7-4) aim to recover from consecutive losses as it welcomes Real Madrid (5-6) for *El Clásico*. After being on the receiving end of [Andreas Obst](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/euroleague/players/andreas-obst/004508/)'s record three-point shooting night last week, Barcelona will look to strengthen its perimeter defense. Fit-again [Dzanan Musa](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/euroleague/players/dzanan-musa/006540/) will look to take advantage of any opportunities to strike from deep for Real, and his presence alongside former *Azulgrana* player [Mario Hezonja](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/euroleague/players/mario-hezonja/003108/) – who reportedly nearly rejoined the club in the summer – will be a major threat for the hosts to contain. In a meeting between two of the four teams currently tied for fifth place, Monaco (7-4) will attempt to inflict a second straight loss on Panathinaikos (7-4).
