He took advantage of a pass from [Yago dos Santos](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/euroleague/players/yago-dos-santos/012044/) to score and get a foul. Even though he couldn’t convert the free throw, [Isaiah Canaan](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/euroleague/players/isaiah-canaan/010612/) grabbed the offensive rebound and enabled Dos Santos to make another three-point play that brought the Serbian outfit back into the game.

"It was a big rebound, you know, just to give us another chance and that's the area we got to continue to improve, getting rebounds," stated Canaan right after the game. "We tried to do a better job of that tonight. We got the ones that mattered, and we made the shots that mattered."

Many of those shots that mattered for Zvezda came from the hands of Canaan, who finished with 26 points and was the game’s top scorer. He delivered only in the second and the fourth periods, scoring 11 in the second and 15 in the final frame.

He did contribute on offense when the game was on the line, bringing 5 points right after the 5-point play, then he tied it at 80-80 from behind the arc before later feeding [Filip Petrusev](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/euroleague/players/filip-petrusev/011194/) in the corner for a three that gave his team the lead for good, 82-83.

"We didn't lose our head in those moments," reaffirmed Mitrovc. "We started to play better defense, and we found good solutions on offense. We found. Isaiah \[Canaan\] – he hit some big, big shots."

Thanks to Canaan’s 15 points in the last period, Zvezda completed a fantastic fourth quarter in which it outscored Virtus 24-37. In fact, 29 of those came in the last 6:38 of the game against Virtus’s 12.

"It was a team victory," celebrated Canaan. "We needed this win. We're going to keep building. Every game is a test for us, and we’ve got to continue to stay together. Tonight was a team victory."

Milan fought off ASVEL 92-84 at home to improve to 8-6 with seven victories in the last eight games following a dismal 1-5 start to the season.

"It would be stupid to say that anybody expected that," Messina admitted to EuroLeague TV after the game. "But I saw them coming to practice every day even in the darkest days very seriously. Usually when you work with togetherness and without pointing fingers and you take responsibility, good things happen."

Milan shot a poor 45.2% on two-pointers but still found a way to score at least 91 points for the sixth time in the last eight games. They made 40.0% percent on three-pointers to go with a magnificent 34 of 35 (97.1%) on free throws.

"It’s a very, very important win because we probably didn’t play our best game, but we managed to stay there with the exception of a couple of minutes," Messina added. "We kept playing, we were disciplined. We still scored 90 points even on a night when we didn’t score so brilliantly as the game before ([a 101-86 win over Crvena Zvezda Meridianbet Belgrade](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/euroleague/news/milan-breezes-past-zvezda-101-86-for-fourth-straight-win/)). The game was special for two other reasons for Causeur as the Frenchman’s 9 points saw him join the 2,500-point club. He also improved to a personal 9-0 all-time record against ASVEL.

"It was hard until the end. We knew they are a team that plays with confidence," noted the 37-year-old. "They really gave us problems until the end. Even when we went up by 11, they came back after some stupid turnovers. But, okay, we secured the win in the end and are happy."

“It was a great reaction from our team to show character as all the guys responded the right way,” Spanoulis said in a courtside post-game interview. “We shared the ball well and had 24 assists, which is a great number in the EuroLeague. Today we played great defense and it’s important to work hard on both ends of the floor.”

EA7 Emporio Armani Milan completed a perfect double-round week with a 92-84 home victory over LDLC ASVEL Villeurbanne to extend its winning streak to five games. Milan gained control of the game with a 16-5 run spanning the final two quarters for its first 10-point lead to improve to 8-6 with seven wins in the last eight games. The Italians also are 6-2 at home, including five straight victories at Unipol Forum.

Zach LeDay and Nikola Mirotic both scored 17 points, Armoni Brooks had 14 points, Nico Mannion tallied 11 points and 4 assists, and Fabien Causeur chipped in 9 points, 5 rebounds, 3 assists and 6 steals. ASVEL saw its modest two-game winning streak snapped and fell to 5-9 with a 0-7 road record. Theo Maledon scored 24 points and Joffrey Lauvergne had 19 points in the loss.

Milan’s offense could not get going at all early, with just two free throws in the first 4 minutes, while four different ASVEL scorers had baskets in a 2-8 lead before Mirotic scored the hosts' first basket. Milan buried two triples and cut the gap to 10-12, only to see Maledon convert a three-point play and Melvin Ajinca hit a three-pointer to make it 12-18. Two LeDay baskets knotted the game 18-18 and ASVEL was up 18-20 after the first quarter. 

Lauvergne took over in the second quarter with two lefty hooks, a floater and three-pointer to help ASVEL jump ahead 24-29. Milan would not let the guests get away, twice making it a one-point game before finally taking its first lead on two Causeur free throws for 34-33. LeDay added a three-pointer as Milan was up 37-33. And Milan led 41-36 at the break. 

A Causeur three-pointer increased the margin to 8 points at 46-38. ASVEL scored 3 points on three consecutive possessions to stick close and Maledon made it 53-51. Two Milan veterans made milestone baskets, with Causeur hitting 2,500 points and Shavon Shields reaching 2,000 points for a 58-51 lead. ASVEL punched back with a 0-8 run to reclaim the lead 58-59. Brooks answered with a three-pointer and Milan was up 63-61 after 30 minutes. 

Brooks scored 4 more points as Milan opened the gap to 69-61 while ASVEL needed almost 3 minutes to score. Mirotic added a triple and Milan increased the advantage to double figures, 74-64, with under 7 minutes to play. After the cushion swelled to 11 points, ASVEL was not ready to hand over the game, especially Maledon, who scored 9 points to make it 85-82 with 89 seconds left. But Mannion drained a high-arching fadeaway baseline jumper as the dagger answer with 37 seconds to go.

In a roller-coaster game that went down to the wire, Paris Basketball came up with yet another shocker, beating Olympiacos Piraeus 90-96 on Friday night at a sold-out Peace and Friendship Stadium. It is a 10th consecutive win for Paris, which improved to a league-best 11-3 record, while Olympiacos dropped to 9-5 on the season after suffering its first home defeat.

Paris controlled the game from the get-go, then pulled away late in the third and in the fourth quarter, opening a 60-80 lead, only for Olympiacos to respond with a majestic 22-0 run. But Nadir Hifi, TJ Shorts and Maodo Lo hit a three-pointer apiece to secure another win for the league leaders. Shorts led the winners with 21 points and 8 assists, Hifi had 20 points and Tyson Ward scored 14. Evan Fournier paced Olympiacos with 25 points, Sasha Vezenkov netted 18, Nigel Williams-Goss had 12 and Shaquielle McKissic finished with 10 points in a losing effort.

Kevarrius Hayes and Shorts set the tone in the early going, before back-to-back triples from Hifi and Bandja Sy opened 5-13 lead. Fournier and Vezenkov got Olympiacos back on track, with Fournier's four-point play capping an 8-0 run to tie the game. The two teams traded buckets in the remainer of the first quarter, and the score was tied at 21-21 after 10 minutes.

Shorts was the engine for Paris at the start of the second, scoring 5 points to make it 23-30. Williams-Goss had a pair of baskets at the rim, and Luca Vildoza knocked down a second-chance triple to help make it a 1-point game, 31-32. A basket from McKissic and a triple from Tyler Dorsey tied the score at 36-36, but Lo answered with a triple that started a strong finish to the quarter from Paris. Ward hit a three-pointer and Yakuba Ouattara took it to the rim to open an 8-point lead before Thomas Walkup finished the half with a three-pointer to ensure it was 44-49 at the interval.

Paris continued its charge in the third quarter, with Ouattara, Shorts, Hayes and Ward all scoring layups to open the visitors' first double-digit lead of the night, 47-57. A triple from Collin Malcolm, then a second-chance three from Hifi opened a 49-65 margin after 5 minutes in the third quarter. Nikola Milutinov's presence in the paint and some trademark energy from McKissic gave a spark to Olympiacos, which scored the next 5 points, but Shorts took one to the rim past Milutinov and Ouattara knocked down a corner three to help make it 60-73 after 30 minutes.

Ward's triple and the easiest of layups set up by Shorts opened 60-78 with 7:41 to play. A layup from Hayes increased the margin to 20 points. Olympiacos needed more than 3 minutes to score in the fourth, a triple from Fournier, but that sparked a 22-0 run behind some incredible defense by Olympiacos. It was a run in which Fournier and Williams-Goss had the first 15 points, then Peters hit a transition triple and Vildoza a fast-break layup to tie it at 80-80. Free throws from Williams-Goss gave Olympiacos its only lead with 3:11 to go. Hifi snapped the run with a tough three-pointer, and Shorts followed it up with a triple of his own, 82-86. Olympiacos tied it after a layup from Williams-Goss going into the final minute, and the Reds had another possession, but Paris made a defensive stand and Lo hit a transition triple with 20 seconds to go to open an 86-89 margin, giving Paris a lead it never relinquished. Fournier hit a three-pointer (90-91), but Mikael Jantunen and Lo sealed the deal.

Crvena Zvezda Meridianbet Belgrade escaped with a valuable 87-94 victory at Virtus Segafredo Bologna in a game in which it needed to erase a 10-point deficit in the last quarter. The hosts dominated 75-65 with 6:38 minutes remaining, but a five-point play at that moment and an offensive demonstration led by Isaiah Canaan allowed Zvezda to come back and take advantage of Virtus’s nerves.

With this win, the visitors improved to 7-7 whereas Virtus – with new head coach Dusko Ivanovic having to watch on from a courtside seat while interim boss Nenad Jakovljevic took charge – remains at the bottom of the standings with a 2-12 mark and six defeats in a row.

Canaan was the game's top scorer with 26 points on 4-of-9 shooting from long range, while Luka Mitrovic and Filip Petrusev complemented him from inside. Mitrovic posted 21 points and 8 rebounds, with Petrusev recording 21 points and 6 boards. Toko Shengelia paced Virtus with 25 points, while Will Clyburn recorded a double-double of 19 points and 12 boards for a PIR of 38. Isaia Cordinier and Ante Zizic were also in double figures with 13 and 10 points, respectively.

The game featured a nice battle between Zizic and Petrusev, who challenged each other in the early going to lead both sides. Clyburn joined the Croatian center and provided a triple, a bucket and two free throws to help Virtus earn a 13-11 advantage before the first timeout took place, as the visitors just found Kalinic to accompany Petrusev. Mitrovic ended a two-minute scoring drought with a slam to tie it, but Cordinier and two consecutive strong moves by Momo Diouf inside gave the hosts a slim lead, 19-13. The visitors didn’t step back, though, as Mitrovic scored inside, and Codi Miller-McIntyre beat the buzzer with a triple that finished the first period with Virtus up 19-18.

The run continued early in the second, with Rokas Giedraitis completing the rally and boosting Zvezda to a 19-23 lead from the free-throw line. The home team needed two minutes to score its first basket through Zizic, but it wasn’t enough to slow down the visitors, as Mitrovic showed up with 9 points in a row to make it 24-32 after 15 minutes. The hosts leaned on their veterans to try to prevent Zvezda from pulling away, with Cordinier coming to the scene to help Shengelia and Clyburn, while the guests found Canaan to keep their momentum going. Two free throws by Clyburn made it a one-possession game, 38-40, but Canaan answered from the same place and Petrusev closed the first half with a dunk to maintain Zvezda's advantage, 38-44.

Dobric made it an eight-point lead again right after the game resumed, with Shengelia giving his best to support Virtus on the other end. Zizic joined him later with consecutive inside buckets to prevent Zvezda from escaping, as the score remained in favor of the visitors, 46-52, midway through the third period. Clyburn converted from two right before a TV timeout, which turned into the start of a perfect storm for Virtus. Cordinier scored twice from the line and later added a triple, as Clyburn and Shengelia made the most of an unsportsmanlike foul by Milos Teodosic that completed a 13-0 run to turn the tables, 59-52, allowing Virtus to enter the last stanza leading 63-57.

Dejan Davidovac completed a three-point play and Canaan showed up again early in the fourth period to bring Zvezda within 65-63, but Virtus’s mood didn’t change. Marco Belinelli and Shengelia imitated Davidovac and provided 6 points on two plays to recover a safe margin, while Alessandro Pajola joined later with 4 points in a row to make it a double-digit lead for the first time in the game, 75-65, with less than 7 minutes remaining. The hosts didn’t tremble, though, and used a five-point play to flip the momentum, then gave the keys to Canaan, who scored 7 points and fed Petrusev for a triple that brought the lead back to the Serbian side, 82-83. Even though Shengelia made it all square twice, nerves got the best of Virtus. Kalinic drilled a long three to make it 85-88 with 1:28 to play, then Petrusev added two from the line and Canaan took the reins again to cap a 0-7 spark that definitely put Virtus to bed entering the last minute.

ALBA scored the opening 2 points of the game but that was as good as it got for the German outfit, as Monaco took no time to hit top gear and raced into a 24-14 lead. It soared to 34-18 at the end of the first quarter and then 40-20 early in the second, with ALBA unable to keep up with the home team’s torrid pace.

Monaco shared the ball superbly, having dished out 13 team assists by halftime as the hosts also racked up 18 rebounds in the opening 20 minutes, 6 of them on offense. In contrast, ALBA committed 10 turnovers and trailed 55-37 at the interval, with the score in no way flattering Monaco.

Having cruised through the third quarter, Monaco put its foot on the gas again in the fourth, galvanized by one of the blocks of the season when Jordan Lloyd denied Spagnolo with a stunning rejection. The home side pulled 92-67 clear in the closing stages and went through the motions in the final few minutes, as ALBA limited the damage with several late three-pointers.

It was a second victory in three outings for Monaco’s new coach Vassilis Spanoulis, who will welcome a return to winning ways after Wednesday’s 80-89 home loss to former club Olympiacos Piraeus, where he won two of his three EuroLeague titles as a player.

In a roller-coaster game that went down to the wire, Paris came up with yet another shocker, beating Olympiacos 90-96 on Friday night at a sold-out Peace and Friendship Stadium. It is a 10th consecutive win for Paris, which improved to a league-best 11-3 record, while Olympiacos dropped to 9-5 on the season after suffering its first home defeat. Paris controlled the game from the get-go, then pulled away late in the third and in the fourth quarter, opening a 60-80 lead, only for Olympiacos to respond with a majestic 22-0 run. But Nadir Hifi, TJ Shorts and Maodo Lo hit a three-pointer apiece to secure another win for the league leaders.

The hosts dominated 75-65 with 6:38 minutes remaining, but a five-point play at that moment and an offensive demonstration led by Isaiah Canaan allowed Zvezda to come back and take advantage of Virtus’s nerves. With this win, the visitors improved to 7-7 whereas Virtus – with new head coach Dusko Ivanovic having to watch on from a courtside seat while interim boss Nenad Jakovljevic took charge – remains at the bottom of the standings with a 2-12 mark and six defeats in a row.

Zalgiris snapped its two-game losing streak by topping Efes at home in the Round 14 opener on Thursday. Zalgiris improved to 8-6 in the standings while Efes dropped to 7-7. Lonnie Walker paced the winners with 18 points and Sylvain Francisco added 16. Elijah Bryant led Efes with 23 points.

Bayern used an outstanding second half to beat Baskonia and improve to 9-5 in the standings. Carsen Edwards scored all of his 27 points after the break. Andreas Obst and Devin Booker each added 18 points for Bayern, which buried 18 of 30 three-pointers. Chima Moneke had 25 points and 11 rebounds for Baskonia, which dropped to 6-8 in the league table. Baskonia led 56-61 after 27 minutes but a 16-0 run put Bayern in charge for good.

Shorts has played an instrumental role in guiding Paris to a league-best 10-3 record and has made the French side – playing in its first-ever EuroLeague season – a surprise title contender with his leadership on the court.
