Olimpia Milano, led by Nikola Mirotic and new signing Nico Mannion, has vastly improved its performances in the EuroLeague and has won five of its last six games.

After the home loss to Anadolu Efes Istanbul in Round 5, [EA7 Emporio Armani Milan](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/euroleague/teams/ea7-emporio-armani-milan/mil/) coach [Ettore Messina](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/euroleague/teams/ea7-emporio-armani-milan/mil/messina-ettore/) had some harsh criticism for the way his team played in some parts of the game.

“The first half was honestly a shame. The lack of competitiveness and the lack of effort in doing things together was really hard to watch,” Messina said. He had just watched his players losing by as many as 22 points and, ultimately, failing to complete a comeback.

That was Milano’s second straight loss at the Forum. One week before, Zalgiris Kaunas had handed them a defeat after pulling off the second-biggest turnaround in EuroLeague history by coming back from down 27 points.

“We need to go back to the gym, close the door and work as hard as we can. \[To\] understand if there is a way to get this back,” Messina commented.

The plight of Milano continued on the road against Baskonia, where the Italian powerhouse suffered its fifth loss in the first six games. They were in danger of falling way behind the pack, while a heavy shadow of doubt was looming over the Forum, considering that the team is coming from a two-year playoff drought.

Messina got his players in the gym and not only shut the doors, but also kind of outside noise. Their labor bore fruit and Milano turned its 1-5 losing record literally upside down with five wins over the next six games.

Partizan wins unusual game to keep the streak going

It was a usual setting on Tuesday night inside Belgrade Arena, packed to the rafters in loud support of [Partizan Mozzart Bet Belgrade](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/euroleague/teams/partizan-nis-belgrade/roster/par/?season=2024-25), which managed to hold off visiting [Zalgiris Kaunas](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/euroleague/teams/zalgiris-kaunas/roster/zal/?season=2024-25) [84-78](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/euroleague/news/partizan-holds-off-zalgiris-84-78/). It was a third consecutive win for [Coach Zeljko Obradovic](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/euroleague/teams/partizan-mozzart-bet-belgrade/par/obradovic-zeljko/)'s squad, which fought its way to win, showing continuing signs of growth and improvement, this time by overcoming some things it was not always able to overcome earlier this season.

In the first half, it was Zalgiris's [Lonnie Walker](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/euroleague/players/lonnie-walker-iv/013403/) who knocked down 5 of his first 6 three-point attempts, and Zalgiris had 10 offensive rebounds in the first 20 minutes while Partizan had pulled down only 7 defensive boards.

Yet, it was Partizan that led 44-41 at the break, only for Obradovic to say in his halftime interview: "I believe this is one of our worst defensive games until now".

Obradovic explained his thoughts in more detail during the post-game press conference: "We had a totally different plan how to defend Walker, but he scored 17 points in the first half. That was our biggest problem from the coaching perspective."

And, this is where the first batch of unusual comes into play.

Zalgiris, which entered the game averaging 8.8 triples per game, was 8-of-17 from three-point land in the first two quarters. Then, in the opening 5:40 of the third quarter, Zalgiris knocked down 6 more triples on 7 attempts to take a 54-61 lead.

A scenario was writing itself for another Partizan home disappointment, but the team re-discovered its defense, so much so that it allowed only 3 made field goals the rest of the way, including holding Zalgiris to an 1-for-11 shooting from long range in the final quarter.

Partizan playmaker [Carlik Jones](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/euroleague/players/carlik-jones/013369/) was the first one to take over, which was nothing unusual, but the other key role came from a seldom used guard [Duane Washingto](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/euroleague/players/duane-washington/013370/)n. Playing defense on Walker on one end, Washington also scored the first 5 points of the fourth quarter to put the hosts up 69-64, a lead Partizan never relinquished.

"Washington played an excellent game", Obradovic praised a first-year player who finished with 9 points in just under 19 minutes, even though he did not play the last two games, and in previous five appearances totaled 14 points. "Defensively, Washington was very active. Really, an excellent game, plus I have not seen a small player dunk like he has in a while. I already congratulated him on the floor."

Another thing that Partizan has had problems with this season have been close finishes. Partizan had big leads early in the game in majority of its eight losses, and held advantage in the fourth quarter, only to end up losing at the end, with seven defeats coming by 8 points or fewer.

With Partizan allowing another 5 offensive rebounds in the fourth quarter, such scenario was lingering again, but the team showed much more poise than in its previous close finishes.

The losing scenario also did not happen for Partizan mostly because its much improved defense which led the game into another unusual direction.

In the second half, before Walker's basket with 8 seconds to go and the game all but decided, Zalgiris made only 2 two-point shots on just 7 attempts. Those two two-point field goal came, get this, 18 minutes apart!

In all that unusualness, Partizan proved to be a more balanced team, with six different players scoring 8 or more points, while the team committed just 8 turnovers in 40 minutes.

Unusual or not, a win is a win, and this one has improved Partizan to a 5-8 record.

"Three wins in a row, hard to be more solid than that. There is a satisfaction that comes with that, but there is also a satisfaction with the way we play."

In 48 hours, another big test awaits as the defending champ Panathinaikos AKTOR Athens visits.

[Devin Booker](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/euroleague/players/devin-booker/007056/) was red hot in the first half, scoring 19 points on 9-of-11 two-point shooting. Not only did that set a EuroLeague season-high - [Levi Randolph](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/euroleague/players/levi-randolph/013382/) of [Maccabi Playtika Tel Aviv](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/euroleague/teams/maccabi-playtika-tel-aviv/tel/) had 17 points [against Partizan Mozzart Bet Belgrade](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/euroleague/news/partizan-powers-past-maccabi-79-91/) in Round 4, but Booker also tied a club record for most points in a first half. That was first done by [Andreas Obst](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/euroleague/players/andreas-obst/004508/) with 19 [against EA7 Emporio Armani Milan](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/euroleague/news/milan-thrashes-bayern-99-74/) in the 2022-23 campaign. Booker's PIR of 23 before the break was also a new season-high, which was previously shared by [Mike James](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/euroleague/players/mike-james/005985/) and [Nikola Mirotic](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/euroleague/players/nikola-mirotic/000796/) with a PIR of 21 apiece against Virtus Segafredo Bologna and Paris Basketball, respectively.

Efes managed to stop Booker after the break but Bayern found a new go-to guy. [Nick Weiler-Babb](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/euroleague/players/nick-weiler-babb/010391/) had been scoreless in the first half but had 17 points in the third quarter, tying the competition's best scoring mark in that period this season. [Martin Hermannsson](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/euroleague/players/martin-hermannsson/008780/) of ALBA Berlin also had 17 points in the third quarter of his team's [84-79 victory over LDLC ASVEL Villeurbanne](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/euroleague/news/tae2425-rs3-report-ber-asv/) in Round 3. Weiler-Babb's third-quarter PIR of 19 was also a club record. Booker and Weiler-Babb helped Bayern rally from a 16-point deficit, 54-38, to get within 74-73 at the end of the third quarter.

What allowed Efes to win the game, then? First of all, its fourth quarter defense was excellent, allowing just 17 points in the final 10 minutes. Efes only allowed Bayern to make 1 of 9 three-pointers in the fourth quarter, in which the visitors had 0 steals and 5 turnovers. Even though Bayern finished the game with 15 offensive rebounds, it only got 3 of those in the fourth quarter. Efes only had 1 turnover in the final 10 minutes, getting 5 offense.

A balanced offense allowed Efes to get the victory, too. It had six players scoring in double digits, all led by [Darius Thompson](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/euroleague/players/darius-thompson/011078/)'s 19 points. Efes shot the ball with outstanding percentages, making 29 of 39 two-pointers (74.4% 2FG), 12 of 27 three-pointers (44.4% 3FG) and 7 of 8 free throws (87.5% FT). Despite not missing many shots, Efes still got 10 offensive rebounds. Efes finished the game with a club season-high PIR of 119.

"One great win for the team. Everybody came in. Whoever came in and competed gave great minutes, so I'm happy for the team," Thompson said after the game. "I think we just wanted to focus on playing energy and playing with toughness, and that's what our coach kept telling us to do and we try to implement it to the court."

Efes broke the 100-point barrier for the first time this season and is set to face Zalgiris Kaunas on the road in Round 14 on Thursday.

In Panathinaikos BC's Round 13 win over FC Barcelona, Kendrick Nunn wowed the Greens' fans on several occasions en route to a career-high 29 points.

Beating the end-of-quarter buzzer once is enough to get fans off their seats. Doing so twice from mid-court is more than enough to explain why [Kendrick Nunn](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/euroleague/players/kendrick-nunn/012774/) is considered one of the best scorers to have ever stepped foot on European soil.

The [Panathinaikos AKTOR Athens](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/euroleague/teams/panathinaikos-aktor-athens/pan/) guard pulled off a sublime display against [FC Barcelona](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/euroleague/teams/fc-barcelona/bar/) at OAKA on Tuesday night, when he beat the buzzer in each of the first three quarters of the game.

The first came thanks to a mid-court buzzer-beater with just his first shot of the game to give Panathinaikos a 25-19 lead heading into the second period. Then, Nunn stepped up again in the dying embers of the quarter and tied the game at 45-45 heading the break with an off-balanced jumper, despite Barcelona center [Jan Vesely](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/euroleague/players/jan-vesely/000925/) being all over him and practically blocking his view.

Yet, his third buzzer-beating bucket was the one that produced the most hands-on-head reactions in the stands. Barcelona had taken a double-digit lead (55-66) with 3:17 minutes remaining in the third and held a 60-69 cushion with three seconds left. Enter Nunn, who hit yet another mid-court bucket to cut the difference to 6 heading into the fourth.

“I guess when the time is coming you only get one shot,” Nunn told EuroLeague TV after the game. “Same shot, just long distance. I practice them a little bit, so credit to that.”

That was the first of three triples in a row hit by Nunn across the last two quarters, with the last one making it 69-69. The Panathinaikos star finished the game with a career-high 29 points, having gone 5 for 9 from deep – two of which were from way downtown - and 6 for 8 from inside the arc.

The last quarter turned into a back-and-forth affair, with Nunn coming to the fore and netting 12 points including 2 clutch free throws to extend Panathinaikos’s lead to 89-86 with 12 seconds to go.

“In the last quarter we improved our defense, but we had a problem on offense because they closed too much in the paint and we found a way by putting [Dinos Mitoglou](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/euroleague/players/konstantinos-mitoglou/007866/) at the ‘5’ position and opening the court,” Panathinaikos head coach Ergin Ataman explained on EuroLeague TV. “Kendrick found more space to attack and Dinos found three-point shots, too.”

The Greens opened the double-round week with a morale-boosting victory after two straight defeats. On Thursday, Panathinaikos travels to Serbia, where it will face an in-form [Partizan Mozzart Bet Belgrade](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/euroleague/teams/partizan-mozzart-bet-belgrade/par/) which is on a three-game winning run.

To snap that streak, the Greeks will lean on Nunn, who has netted at least 19 points in six consecutive games and showed on Tuesday night that he has the skillet to score from anywhere on the court, regardless of the circumstances.

ASVEL prevailed [77-85](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/euroleague/game-center/2002-03/real-madrid-asvel-basket/E2002/168/) on the road on that occasion, but there was a special flavor to Tuesday’s triumph in the club’s brand-new LDLC Arena as it came in the most dramatic fashion.

[Paris Lee](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/euroleague/players/paris-lee/011225/) sank a buzzer-beating floater from the baseline to spark wild celebrations among home fans and players, including head coach [Pierric Poupet](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/euroleague/teams/ldlc-asvel-villeurbanne/asv/poupet-pierric/?season=E2024) who got so elated that he later apologized in his post-game comments for failing to shake hands with the opposition.

There was no malicious intent on Coach Poupet’s part, whose courtside demeanor after the absorbing contest was sincere as he referred to Real as a class act on and off the court. The stature of the most trophy-laden team in EuroLeague history made ASVEL’s victory that much sweeter and Poupet made it clear how much it meant to the hosts.

“It’s been more than 20 years and it’s a huge, huge win for us, as we showed character,” Poupet said. “We played well in the first half, dug ourselves into a hole in the second and then came back, hitting a big shot in the end. We’ve now won two in a row and that’s a big accomplishment in the EuroLeague, so we want to keep competing and improving,” he added.

Lee emerged as the hero but his last-gasp winner was facilitated by a crunch contribution from [Andre Roberson](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/euroleague/players/andre-roberson/013405/) in the final 2 seconds of the game and by yet another majestic performance from [Theo Maledon](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/euroleague/players/theo-maledon/007027/), who netted a game-high 23 points.

Roberson blocked [Facundo Campazzo](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/euroleague/players/facundo-campazzo/005928/)’s layup which would have likely won the game for Real before dishing out an assist from a sid eout to Lee, who delivered with a delicious floater from a tight angle.  

“I want to give a shout out to my teammates, they were unbelievable,” said Lee. “A big shout to Dre \[Andre Roberson\] for getting that block and a really big one to Theo \[Maledon\]. He’s been having a lot of attention on him and he literally brought us towards the promised land by himself in the end. That set me up to hit the shot. With this kind of win, we build chemistry and the important thing is that we find consistency and keep going.”

Maledon, who was 18 months old the last time ASVEL beat Real, kept the French team alive with a brilliant fourth quarter as he mixed audacious layups through traffic with deep threes to engineer the final twist when Real looked the more likely winner.

Maledon’s heroics helped ASVEL improve to 5-8 while Real’s patchy form continued as last season’s EuroLeague runner-up slipped to 6-7, with the 23-year-old guard elated with the outcome.    

“We were able to fight back and give ourselves a chance to win the game and Paris did the job in the end,” said Maledon. “We just kept going, we knew there was plenty of time to come back and that’s what we did. It’s amazing to break their winning streak over us.”

In Round 14, ASVEL visits EA7 Emporio Armani Milan while Real takes on Fenerbahce Beko Istanbul at home in what should be a mouth-watering blockbuster.

Howard drained 5 three-pointers en route to a 17-point night in [an 88-76 victory](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/euroleague/news/baskonia-beats-fenerbahce-88-76-for-second-straight-win/), extending Baskonia’s home winning streak over the Turkish side to five games, dating back to January 9, 2020.

“We came out for this game with a lot of energy, a lot of effort, a lot of fight. We knew Fener was coming in here with their hard hats on, so we had to bring our hard hats too. And I feel we did that,” said [Donta Hall](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/euroleague/players/donta-hall/011196/), who had a thrilling game with 14 points, 9 rebounds and 3 blocks.

But the biggest story of the game was Howard, who made 148 triples last season to set the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague all-time single-season record.

The 25-year-old has struggled mightily this season, making just 26.5% of his three-point attempts coming into this game. Howard had a dismal 1-of-11 performance from long range against Paris Basketball in Round 7, and then he missed all 21 of his attempts in the four previous games.

Howard wasted no time in starting his night on a high note, draining his first attempt after just 91 seconds. He added two more triples within 87 seconds of each other midway through the opening frame.

He made it 4 for 4 in the opening stage of the third quarter – though there was a bit of luck as the ball bounced up and fell through the rim. Howard missed his next two three-point attempts and then got a friendly rim for the fifth triple again, with the shot landing with a flat dud and rolling in.

Despite being off target his final two long range shots, he added a big jumper in the final quarter. Fenerbahce was trying to get closer in the closing minutes, but Howard hit a jumper around the free-throw line to make it 84-69 with 91 seconds to go.

Howard ended up fouling out shortly thereafter, but he had already done his damage. And he only has to wait two days before he can see if he has truly found his stroke again.

Paris Basketball's German guard Maodo Lo scored 19 points on 4-of-7 three-point shooting as his team defeated Maccabi Tel Aviv BC 81-93 on Tuesday night at Aleksander Nikolic Hall in Belgrade.

A lot of the attention around [Paris Basketball](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/euroleague/teams/paris-basketball/prs/) and its red-hot run to the top of the standings has surrounded the play of star guard [TJ Shorts](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/euroleague/players/tj-shorts/012608/), the [EuroLeague MVP for November](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/euroleague/news/paris-star-tj-shorts-selected-as-mvp-for-november/). But one of Paris’s most important weapons has been its depth, as [coach Tiago Splitter](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/euroleague/teams/paris-basketball/prs/splitter-tiago/) employs an 11-man rotation.

"We do a lot of subs. Nobody plays too many minutes in a row, so I ask them to be at their max \[effort\] whenever they are on the court," Coach Splitter said in the post-game press conference after his team [defeated Maccabi Playtika Tel Aviv 81-93](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/euroleague/news/paris-blasts-maccabi-81-93-for-ninth-straight-win/) on Tuesday night at Aleksander Nikolic Hall in Belgrade. "They accept that; that’s not easy."

Though he did not speak specifically to any of his reserves, if he had, Splitter would surely have sung the praises of [Maodo Lo](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/euroleague/players/maodo-lo/007032/).

The German guard scored 19 points on 4-of-7 three-point shooting in 21:34 minutes off the bench against Maccabi. It marked the third time in the last four games in which Lo scored at least 15 points.

Why is that significant? Well, the better Lo plays, the more Coach Splitter can afford to rest Shorts. And ensuring that both of them are giving 100% effort at all times on the floor means that Paris is that much more dangerous.

"Everyone from players to staff was committed to bringing the energy today," Lo said after the game, modestly not speaking at all about his strong performance. When asked about the future, Lo explained: "We just have to keep doing the things we do and try to focus on our habits. We meet the best talent here in Europe, so it’s gonna be tough. But we are going to keep going our way."

With Lo leading the way, Paris's reserves outscored the starters 47-46. Among the 11 players in the rotation, everyone played at least 10 minutes and no one reached as many as 26. Shorts topped the charts with 25:56 played, 22 points and 8 assists. Ten different Paris players scored.

Two more keys to this win for Paris were the fact that it cashed in on Maccabi's 14 turnovers to the tune of 20 points and it bullied its way to 19 offensive rebounds. Lo was one of five Paris players with multiple offensive rebounds.

With Lo, now in his ninth EuroLeague campaign, giving his all off the bench, Paris continues to take the scalps of heralded opponents. It’s next target will be Olympiacos Piraeus in Round 14 on Friday night.

Partizan Mozzart Bet Belgrade has registered its third straight win with a hard-fought 84-78 win over the visiting Zalgiris Kaunas at Belgrade Arena on Tuesday night. Partizan improved to 5-8 record, while Zalgiris dropped to 7-6 on the season.

Partizan Mozzart Bet Belgrade registered its third straight win with a hard-fought 84-78 victory over visiting Zalgiris Kaunas at Belgrade Arena on Tuesday night. Partizan improved to 5-8, while Zalgiris dropped to 7-6 on the season.

Zalgiris made 14 three-point shots, including 7 in the first 5:40 of the third quarter, but the hosts answered with a 15-3 run bridging the third and fourth quarters. Even though the lead was never bigger than 7 points, Partizan never relinquished it. 

Carlik Jones shined with 19 points and 10 assists and Tyrique Jones had 15 points and 9 rebounds. Frank Ntlikina netted 15 and Sterling Brown had 11 in a victory. Lonnie Walker paced the visitors with 26 points on 6-for-11 three-point shooting and Brady Manek had 12 in defeat.

Walker nailed a pair of triples and Edgaras Ulanovas had a three-point play, but Carlik Jones was dishing assists and Tyrique Jones was dominating inside. Back-to-back triples from Vanja Marinkovic and Sterling Brown helped open a 15-9 lead for the hosts. Partizan's two Joneses also connected for an alley-oop, but Matthew Mitchell and Walker each nailed a three-pointer to make it 22-19 after 10 minutes.

Manek knocked down a transition triple, but a three from Brown and baskets from Duane Washington and Ntilikina put Partizan up 32-24. Walker strung together 8 points, including a pair of threes, that all but erased the deficit, 34-32. Ntilikina hit a triple, but so did Manek. While Laurynas Birutis scored twice inside, Tyrique Jones had a three-point play and the hosts held a 44-41 edge at halftime.

The threes were raining at the start of the third quarter. Ulanovas started the run of threes, and Giedraitis hit two from downtown to make it 48-52. Ntilikina hit one for the hosts, but Walker knocked down his sixth and Manek made two more for the visitors to make it 54-61. However, Partizan stopped the bleeding with close-range baskets from Carlik Jones and Ntilikina. A triple from Carlik Jones tied it and Bonga's dunk helped the hosts finish a 10-0 run. Francisco's triple, the visitors' seventh of the quarter tied things at 64-64 after 30 minutes.

Washington got the hosts going in the fourth with a floater and a three-point play. Francisco's three snapped a 15-3 run, but Brown nailed a transition triple for a 75-67 advantage midway through the fourth quarter. All the points that followed came from the free throw line in a tense battle, before Carlik Jones hit a mid-range jumper, then Bonga followed with a runner in traffic to make it 81-74 with 1:29 to go and Partizan preserved the lead in the final 90 seconds.
