[Crvena Zvezda Meridianbet Belgrade](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/euroleague/teams/crvena-zvezda-meridianbet-belgrade/roster/red/) has signed Serbian forward [Filip Skobalj](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/euroleague/players/-/009192/), the son of former Zvezda coach Milan Skobalj, the club announced on Thursday. The player penned a deal on his first professional contract after playing college basketball in the United States.

Skobalj (2.02 meters, 23 years old) returns to Serbia after four years at the University of Illinois - Chicago, where he served as team captain and earned academic honors. Last season he averaged 8.5 points on 40.5% three-point shooting, 2.9 rebounds and 1.2 assists per game over 31 appearances. He shot 39.1% from deep in four years with the Flames and finished eighth in school history with 227 triples.

A former Serbian national youth team player, Skobalj now begins his professional journey with Zvezda.

FC Barcelona has confirmed that Youssoupha Fall has signed a one-year contract extension at the club.

Fall (2.23 meters, 30 years old) joined Barcelona last summer, averaging 4.4 points and 3.3 rebounds across 29 EuroLeague appearances. He played an average of almost 10 and a half minutes per night.

While Fall was a second-choice or sometimes third-choice option for Barcelona during the regular season, posting 3.8 points and 2.6 rebounds in an average of 9:45 minutes on the floor, he took his game to another level in the playoffs. During the Blaugrana's five-game series with AS Monaco, the towering center averaged 7.2 points and 7.0 rebounds in an average of 13:42 minutes.

Fall also played for Baskonia Vitoria-Gasteiz (2019-21) and LDLC ASVEL Villeurbanne (2021-24) in the EuroLeague prior to signing for Barcelona. His first professional club was Le Mans Sarthe, where he played between 2014 and 2018. Despite joining Baskonia in 2018, he returned to France by joining Strasbourg on loan for the 2018-19 campaign.

Giannoulis Larentzakis commits to Olympiacos through 2028

[Olympiacos Piraeus](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/euroleague/teams/olympiacos-piraeus/roster/oly/) announced on Tuesday that it has extended the contract of veteran guard-forward [Giannoulis Larentzakis](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/euroleague/players/giannoulis-larentzakis/010392/) through the summer of 2028. The Greek international has been a fixture in the Reds’ rotation since joining the club in 2020, and his new deal secures his future in Piraeus for four more seasons.

Larentzakis (1.96 meters, 31 years old) comes off a quite season, in which he averaged just 2.6 points in 17 EuroLeague appearances, but he provided 9.1 points and 2.4 assists per game in Greek League action to help the Reds take the crown.

“I’ll continue to give 100%,” Larentzakis told the Olympiacos web site. “I’m very happy to continue my journey with Olympiacos. I feel the need to thank everyone involved… for the trust they’ve shown me all these years.

“When I first came here, I wanted to prove I could contribute at the highest level. I think I’ve done that. I gave everything, and I’ll keep doing that for the years ahead.”

In his five seasons with the club, Larentzakis has helped Olympiacos reach the EuroLeague Final Four on four occasions. He has also won the Greek League and the Greek Cup three times each.

Larentzakis began his career with Egaleo AO and also played for Ikaros Kallitheas, Aris Thessaloniki, VAP Kolossos Rodou and AEK Athens in his native Greece and for UCAM Murcia in Spain. He helped AEK win the BCL and the Greek Cup in 2018 and the Intercontinental Cup in 2019. Larentzakis played for the Greek national team at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris and is on the provisional roster for EuroBasket 2025.

Belinelli, 39, went full circle in his career having started out at Virtus – where he played his first professional season in 2002-03 – before returning to the club in 2020.

During his second spell with the Bologna-based side, he helped lead Virtus to the BKT EuroCup title in 2021-22 which guaranteed the club’s return to the EuroLeague for the first time since 2008.

Over the last three seasons, Belinelli has helped establish Virtus in the EuroLeague. He was largely the team’s sixth man over that period – a role he also enjoyed during a 13-year stretch in the NBA – but he did enjoy a career year in 2023-24 by posting 14.1 points per night as Virtus reached the second round of the Play-In Showdown.

Either side of his two spells with Virtus (2002-03; 2020-2025), Belinelli also played for Fortitudo Bologna (2003-07) prior to heading to the United States. In 162 EuroLeague games, of which 94 were for Virtus and 68 for Fortitudo, the Italian scored 1,485 points, which is 144th most all-time. His 261 made three-pointers are tied for 66th all-time, too. For his career, he posted 9.2 points, 1.2 rebounds and 1.1 assists per game.

In the NBA, Belinelli made a career 925 appearances for the Golden State Warriors (2007-09), Toronto Raptors (2009-10), New Orleans Hornets (2010-12), Chicago Bulls (2012-13), San Antonio Spurs (2013-15), Sacramento Kings (2015-16), Charlotte Hornets (2016-17), Atlanta Hawks (2017-18) and the Philadelphia 76ers (2017-18) before heading back to the Spurs (2018-20). Belinelli averaged 9.7 points, 2.1 rebounds and 1.7 assists in 860 regular-season games, as well as 8.5 points, 2.1 rebounds and 1.4 assists in 60 playoff fixtures.

During the 2024-25 campaign, he posted 13.6 points, 8.4 rebounds and 2.2 assists for the Valley Suns – the Phoenix Suns' affiliate team – in 44 G League games.

The power forward spent four years at the University of Virginia, during which time he won the 2019 NCAA championship – the first national title in the school's history. 

Diakite turned professional in 2020 and has played in the NBA for the Milwaukee Bucks (2020-21), Oklahoma City Thunder (2021-22), Cleveland Cavaliers (2022-23), San Antonio Spurs (2023-24) and New York Knicks (2023-24), as well as the Lakeland Magic (2020-21), Cleveland Charge (2022-23), Westchester Knicks (2023-24), Austin Spurs (2023-24) and Valley Suns (2024-25) in the G League.

We have a stylistic clash between two teams that would thrive in very different ways. Team 2017 features a high-octane trio in Llull, De Colo, and Bogdanovic, who are all capable of creating off the dribble, shooting from deep, and pushing the pace. Llull’s 2016-17 MVP season was a masterclass in clutch shot-making and leadership. De Colo brings silky scoring and elite pick-and-roll play. Bogdanovic, the youngest of the bunch, was already a killer in isolation and transition.

Team 2009 counters with a more deliberate but deadly trio. McIntyre was the engine of Montepaschi’s offense, a cerebral floor general with a lethal pull-up jumper. Navarro, in his prime, was still the most feared shooter in Europe. Rakocevic added another layer of scoring punch, with his off-ball movement and midrange game.

In the frontcourt, Udoh and Printezis bring contrasting styles. Udoh was a defensive wall and among the best rim protectors in EuroLeague history as well as a smart passer out of the post. Printezis, with his signature one-legged fadeaway, was a clutch scorer and savvy cutter. But Team 2009’s bigs bring power. Bourousis had the size and touch to battle Udoh inside or take him outside. Pekovic, at just 23, was already a bruising force as a low-post monster who could overpower nearly anyone one-on-one.

This one’s razor-close. Team 2017 has more modern spacing and defensive flexibility, while Team 2009 has more pure scorers and interior dominance. If Udoh controls the paint and Llull gets hot, 2017 could run away with it. But if Navarro and Rakocevic find rhythm and Pekovic asserts himself early, 2009 could grind out a win. Different AI simulations gave me different results, but all of them had the game as close. Personally, I think the 2009 squad was a touch stronger. Now it’s your turn to decide. The oddity of this matchup is that – for the only time in EuroLeague history – the 2007 team had six members. There was a tie in the voting between Dimitris Diamantidis and Theo Papaloukas and both were named to the All-EuroLeague First Team. For our exercise, we will only count one of them. You can choose which one for your vote.

The big similarity between these teams is the three-guard lineups. Team 2007 has better shooting on the wings with Navarro and Langdon, while 2016 has better passing on the wings with De Colo and Delaney. For the main ball-handler role, Diamantidis's suffocating defense might cause trouble for Teodosic, but we could consider their duel a wash.

In the paint, Team 2007 has a more dangerous offensive pairing with Scola one of the best low-post operators in EuroLeague history and Vujcic among the best passing bigs ever. Vesely's size and athleticism could help him against Scola, and Bourousis has the body to muscle up Vujcic, however, Scola and Vujcic are not players one can stop easily one-on-one. And their basketball IQ combined with the shooting strokes of the players on the wings give 2007 a huge advantage.

Team 2016 has a dynamic Vesely, but not one who could generate a lot of points by himself, while Bourousis, who had a monster season, would have trouble against a prime Vujcic – who authored the EuroLeague’s first triple-double that season.

All the matchups going forward will be close. Team 2016 certainly has more pace and athleticism, but I think Team 2007 has better defense and structure plus a wily frontcourt, which gives it the edge. Incidentally, I asked two different AI formats to break down this matchup. Both declared 2007 the winner, one by a score of 84-79 and the other 87-81, with Navarro the imaginary MVP.

Valencia inks young guard Isaac Nogues

[Valencia Basket](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/euroleague/teams/valencia-basket/roster/pam/) added another piece to its roster by signing guard [Isaac Nogues](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/ngt/players/isaac-nogues/010162/) to a two-year deal, the club announced Friday. 

Nogues (1.96 meters, 21 years old) spent last season in the G-League with Rip City Remix where he appeared in 40 games and averaged 2.5 points, 5.2 rebounds, 3.9 assists and 2.1 steals. He was voted to the competition's All-Defensive Team.

The swingman grew up with a fellow Spanish side Joventut Badalona, where he played for the youth categories and the club's second team. Nogues spent the 2023-24 season with Huesca in the Spanish third division before moving to the G-League.

He also helped the Spanish national team win a gold medal at the U19 World Championship in 2023. Nogues will now have a chance to make his EuroLeague debut.
