The Panathinaikos BC guard came back to the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague last summer after a stellar season in the BKT EuroCup. Now he is shining again with the Greens.

Last season was a big one for Panathinaikos AKTOR Athens guard [Jerian Grant](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/euroleague/players/jerian-grant/011204/). He was named MVP of the BKT EuroCup as he took Turk Telekom Ankara to the final. It was no surprise to anyone when it was announced that he was returning to the EuroLeague through Panathinaikos AKTOR Athens to join the new project led by new coach Ergin Ataman.

Grant had already made his EuroLeague debut in 2021-22 with EA7 Emporio Armani Milan, but his impact was not felt to the same degree as a EuroLeague rookie.

"Everybody wants to be the man, but that's not how it works," Grant says. "You have to play your role and eventually, as your role gets bigger, you can blossom into being a star."

His impact on the biggest basketball stage in Europe has been immediate in his second stint. With the Greens, he is averaging 8.8 points, 2.4 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 1.6 steals in almost 30 minutes on the court as a regular starter and Panathinaikos is currently fourth in the standings.

And that's no small feat because, as Grant himself acknowledges, switching competitions is like entering a completely new world.

"In the EuroCup, you have three or four players on a team that can really do some special things," Grant explains. "Here in the EuroLeague, every player - even players that come off the bench and only play 5 minutes - can really help the team and do special things."

Now Grant is an integral part of a team that is looking to return to the Final Four for the first time since 2012. For Grant, the key could be that this Panathinaikos team has managed to find chemistry among its members, on and off the court.

"We have guys that really like each other, that really get along," Grant concludes. "We're still learning each other and that shows on the court as we get better and better."

Euroleague Basketball has announced the following disciplinary sanction pertaining to incidents that occurred in Round 25 of the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague regular season.

- Crvena Zvezda Meridianbet Belgrade has been sanctioned with a fine of €4,500 for the throwing of objects on to the playing court on the occasion of its home game against FC Barcelona under Article 29.2.h) of the Euroleague Basketball Disciplinary Code
- Mr. Zoran Savic, Sports Director of Partizan Mozzart Bet Belgrade, has been sanctioned with a fine of €5,000 for the lack of respect towards a member of the officiating crew on the occasion of its road game against Virtus Segafredo Bologna under Article 27.2.b) of the Euroleague Basketball Disciplinary Code

EuroLeague Fantasy tips, Round 26: One more before the break!

Round 26 is the last one before the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague Regular Season takes a two-week break for domestic cups and national team competitions. Baskonia is facing significant injury problems with Tadas Sedekerskis and Khalifa Diop unavailable. That means that other players have to step up. Rogkavopoulos has done so, going for 13 points and a PIR of 11 in Round 25 against Maccabi and a PIR of 22 in Spanish League action. All for less than 6 credits!

[Wade Baldwin, Maccabi Playtika Tel Aviv (16.7 credits)](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/euroleague/players/wade-baldwin-iv/009863/)

Baldwin should be your superstar of choice in Round 26. In the last three games, Baldwin averaged 25.0 points on 8-of-14 three-point shooting and 17-of-18 on free throws plus 6.7 assists for a PIR of 29.3. Over the last six games, Baldwin has had a PIR of at least 16 in each game. Baldwin is simply a solid fantasy choice.

EuroLeague Fantasy tips: Rounds 26

[Mike Scott, LDLC ASVEL Villeurbanne (9.9 credits)](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/euroleague/players/mike-scott/012729/)

Right under 10 credits, Scott is a hidden gem in the game. He has been outstanding over the last two games, averaging 22.0 points, 6.5 rebounds and 4.5 fouls drawn for a PIR of 23.5, while making 13 of 20 two-pointers and 12 of 13 free throws. An increase in playing time is all it took for Scott to do better.

[Semi Ojeleye, Valencia Basket (11.9 credits)](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/euroleague/players/semi-ojeleye/011982/)

Valencia keeps winning games despite being without its two main centers, Brandon Davies and Boubacar Toure. Ojeleye's versatility has allowed Valencia to stay competitive. He's had a double-digit PIR in 10 of his last 11 games and had a PIR of 22 in less than 18 minutes in Round 25 against ALBA.

[Aleksa Avramovic, Partizan Mozzart Bet Belgrade (5.7 credits)](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/euroleague/players/aleksa-avramovic/003983/)

He was the most-bought player at the start of the season and all of a sudden, Avramovic's fantasy popularity is on the rise again. In his last two games, Avramovic has averaged 11.0 points, 3.0 rebounds and 3.5 assists for a PIR of 13.5. His price makes him very attractive as a key backup player.

Maccabi has struggled on the road, especially defensively, with five straight losses allowing at least 88 points. Efes will target a win of 10 points or more after suffering a 95-86 loss at Maccabi in December, with [Bonzie Colson](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/euroleague/players/bonzie-colson/009783/) producing one of his many excellent performances by pairing 19 points with 7 rebounds. Ninth-placed Baskonia (13-12) will look to protect its position in the playoff zone with a visit from lowly ASVEL (5-20). Baskonia has been inconsistent in recent weeks and will view this as a must-win game against a visiting team that suffers from the worst three-point shooting percentage in the league (33.0%).

After a pair of road defeats last week, Partizan (13-12) will hope for home comforts with a visit from Bayern (10-15). Bayern won its last road game, 65-82 at ALBA, and needs a similarly strong defensive performance to take a vital victory on Thursday.

Reigning champion Real (22-3) will look to seal playoff qualification by overcoming a Milan team (10-15) desperate to push closer to the top 10. A big matchup with a playoff feel will see fourth host sixth as Panathinaikos (15-10) welcomes Fenerbahce (15-10). Second hosts second-bottom as Barcelona (17-8) looks for a sixth straight home win with a visit from ALBA (5-15), which has just one road victory all season. The Spanish side won't be taking the task lightly after suffering a shock defeat in Berlin, 74-70, in December. Barca will look to control the outside shooting threat of [Matt Thomas](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/euroleague/players/matt-thomas/008967/), who led ALBA with 13 points on that occasion and has netted multiple triples in seven of the last 11 games. Much like the one before it, 2024 has begun as a very good year for Real Madrid and its dynamic swingman, Dzanan Musa, who has been selected by EuroLeague Basketball as the MVP for January in the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague.

January MVP: Dzanan Musa, Real Madrid

Real shook off a year-opening loss to archrival FC Barcelona to finish January 5-2 and retain its five-victory advantage at the top of the standings. [Dzanan Musa](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/euroleague/players/dzanan-musa/006540/) was exceptional every step of the way, finishing second among all EuroLeague players last month in both scoring, with 19.9 points per game, and average performance index rating, at 22.1. He posted double digits in each statistic in all seven games in January. His consistency was highlighted by a 40-point performance in [Real's epic 130-126 quadruple overtime win](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/euroleague/game-center/2023-24/real-madrid-anadolu-efes-istanbul/E2023/170/) over Anadolu Efes Istanbul, the longest game in EuroLeague history. Not only did he become just the 10th 40-point scorer in the modern EuroLeague – and second in the last decade – but he set a club single-game record for Real scorers this century.

### The youngest monthly MVP since Luka Doncic

The MVP of the Month is named by Euroleague Basketball based on his and his team's performances. Last month's award covered the seven games played by all teams between Tuesday, January 2 and Wednesday, January 31.

Musa, 24, becomes the MVP of the Month honoree for the first time in his four EuroLeague seasons to date. He's the eighth current Real player so honored, following [Facundo Campazzo](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/euroleague/news/november-mvp-facundo-campazzo-real-madrid/) in November and [Mario Hezonja](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/euroleague/news/mvp-for-december-mario-hezonja-real-madrid/) in December, making them the first trio of teammates to win the award in successive months. He becomes the first player born in Bosnia and Herzegovina to win the MVP of the Month award. At 24 years, 8 months and 29 days old, he is also the youngest such honoree since Luka Doncic won it with Real in October of 2017.

### Real bounced back behind Musa's consistency

On January 3, Musa led Real with 19 points including his career high of 5 three-pointers made despite [an 83-78 loss at Barcelona](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/euroleague/game-center/2023-24/fc-barcelona-real-madrid/E2023/159/), the team's first loss in regulation time all season. Two nights later came the epic against Efes, with Musa playing over 45 minutes while scoring 40 points and dishing a career-high 8 assists for a 45 PIR. His 13 two-pointers made in 15 attempts was another club record this century. Next, Musa posted 16 points as [Real humbled host FC Bayern Munich 71-92](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/euroleague/game-center/2023-24/fc-bayern-munich-real-madrid/E2023/178/). He had 13 points to go with 4 rebounds and 2 assists as Real won again in overtime, [96-86 over Valencia Basket](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/euroleague/game-center/2023-24/real-madrid-valencia-basket/E2023/184/). He followed with a team-high 12 points and 4 rebounds despite [a 98-74 road loss at AS Monaco](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/euroleague/game-center/2023-24/as-monaco-real-madrid/E2023/195/), then put up 20, another team-high to go with 5 rebounds and 3 assists, as [Real turned back visiting Olympiacos, 90-85](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/euroleague/game-center/2023-24/real-madrid-olympiacos-piraeus/E2023/203/). Musa finished January with another team-high in scoring, 19 points in [a 106-101 victory against Maccabi Playtika Tel Aviv](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/euroleague/game-center/2023-24/real-madrid-maccabi-playtika-tel-aviv/E2023/212/).

### Musa defined scoring efficiency in January

Musa's high production last month was just as remarkable for his scoring efficiency. He made 31 of 42 two-point shots, a rate of 73.8% that ranked fourth in the league last month; 15 of 36 three-pointers at 41.7%; and 32 of 37 free throws at 86.5%. And despite having all that scoring responsibility, Musa made just 7 turnovers in more than 200 minutes on court last month. 

And now, for a third month in a row, Real Madrid fans will get to honor another of their own, Dzanan Musa, when he is given the first  EuroLeague MVP of the Month award for 2024 at an upcoming home game.

When it comes to making shots from the furthest distances on the court, these players have stood out most this season.

Stats review: From way downtown

The most prolific mid-range scorers in the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague took center stage last week. This one, the players at the opposite end of the spectrum get their due. 

Just over 47% of all shots attempted this season have been perimeter jump shots and 86% of those have been three-pointers. The vast majority of three-point attempts come within one step of the 6.75-meter three-point arc or from the slightly shorter corners where there's little room to operate. 

Some players take things a literal step further by shooting from well beyond the three-point line above the break. Whether it's by design, by virtue of their shooting skill, or out of desperation, some players will rise up from a full meter beyond the three-point line on a regular basis. For example, Partizan guard [Aleksa Avramovic](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/euroleague/players/aleksa-avramovic/003983/) ranks among the EuroLeague leaders with his average three-point attempt coming close to 8 meters from the hoop. 

The table above puts a different spin on that concept, focusing on each player's average distance on makes and not just attempts. The resulting list of leaders provides some insight into which players are stretching the floor the most this season with their shooting range.

Perhaps the first thing that stands out about this list is the wide range of styles of play included. [Mike James](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/euroleague/players/mike-james/005985/) of AS Monaco was the most obvious candidate to land on this list and it comes as a surprise to no one that he leads the EuroLeague in pull-up three pointers made this season. He's joined in the top eight by this season's most prolific mid-range scorer, [Kevin Punter](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/euroleague/players/kevin-punter/009862/) of Partizan Mozzart Bet Belgrader, and a player who does a lot of his deepest shooting off the catch in [Tamir Blatt](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/euroleague/players/tamir-blatt/011193/) of Maccabi Playtika Tel Aviv. These shooters fill a spectrum of roles for their respective teams.

Blatt's placement here is made especially interesting by the fact that it is the byproduct of his affinity for one particular region of the floor. Whether he's catching on the move or dribbling with either hand, he has seemingly unlimited confidence from the left wing. One thing that is common among each of these shooters is how little they hesitate when they feel open – a result of their comfort level and confidence is a general disregard for where they are on the floor other than that they feel "in range".

It is also striking how many of them are shooting a strong percentage from beyond the arc. While their skill and accuracy are part of the reason that they get to take long shots to begin with, the impact distance has on the percentages of some of the league's most aggressive shooters is – in many cases – quite limited. 

That principle stands up to the contrast in mechanics across this group, too. There are players like, Blatt and [Yago Dos Santos](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/euroleague/players/yago-dos-santos/012044/) of Crvena Zvezda Meridianbet Belgrade, who generate the force to shoot from deep vantage points with a quick bend of their knees; James, who elevates as much on his jumper as perhaps any player in the world; [Paris Lee](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/euroleague/players/paris-lee/011225/) of LDLC ASVEL Villeurbanne, who will lean quite a bit on some attempts as he hoists some of the deepest makes on this list; and [Dzanan Musa](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/euroleague/players/dzanan-musa/006540/) of Real Madrid, who will jump higher on some attempts than others, depending on the proximity of defenders, but remains reliable from beyond the arc anyway. 

The contrast in styles between these shooters is intriguing as each finds a way to fit the long ball into a fiercely results-driven EuroLeague landscape.

**ONE TEAM GAMES**: Throughout the penultimate double-round week of the season, One Team took center stage across the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague and the BKT EuroCup. All 38 clubs under the Euroleague Basketball umbrella, together with One Team, had the opportunity to give even greater prominence to their programs, which impacts hundreds of people who are at risk of social exclusion across the continent. It created timeless memories across the continent.

**WINNERS' CORNER**: No win was more emotional than the one for Anadolu Efes under the guidance of Tomislav Mijatovic, who was promoted to head coach last week after serving as an assistant coach for more than 13 years. Despite missing key contributors, the Olympiacos Piraeus reeled off two wins to climb in the standings.

Olympiacos overcame injuries to complete perfect double-round week

Following its 90-85 road win at Real Madrid in Round 23, things looked anything but great for Olympiacos Piraeus. The Reds dropped to a 12-11 record, but most importantly they were forced to add Filip Petrusev and Giannoulis Larentzakis to an injury list that already included Nigel Williams-Goss, who missed the game in Madrid, as well as centers Moustapha Fall and Nikola Milutinov.

Coming into the double-round week, Olympiacos had no available center, with Luke Sikma being the only option to feature at ‘5’. While Larentzakis and Williams-Goss managed to shake off fitness issues, Petrusev would miss out on Tuesday’s duel against ALBA Berlin. The Greek side had just landed emergency signing Moses Wright, who averaged 26.4 points, 8.4 rebounds and 1.4 blocks in five appearances in the Turkish league but had no Turkish Airlines EuroLeague experience. In fact, the rookie had only participated in one team practice before making his debut and struggled in the first half against ALBA, when he didn’t record a single point.

“In the first half I came out a little shaky, but in the second half, \[after I\] went to the locker room and gathered myself, I came out to do what I was supposed to do,” Wright said after the game.

And that’s exactly what the new Olympiacos signing did. Wright stepped up his game and netted 15 second-half points, having gone 7-for-9 from inside the arc. Along with a red-hot Isaiah Canaan, who scored a career-high 31 points, including a club-record 9 three-pointers made, they led Olympiacos to a 101-87 victory.

Having provided the team with a boost in morale, many may have expected Wright and Canaan to build on their momentum and come to the fore again against FC Bayern Munich. However, the two men scored a combined 2 points, with Canaan failing to register a single point in a game for the first time this season. Enter Thomas Walkup and Filip Petrusev. The two Olympiacos players were excellent throughout the second half and combined for 30 points to lead their team to a narrow 72-76 victory at BMW Park.

“I consider this win as one of the most important wins of the season,” head coach Georgios Bartzokas said after the game.

Olympiacos didn’t make a single turnover after the break and its defense made the difference in the crucial third quarter, where it kept Bayern to 13 points.

“Our defense \[was the key to the win\],” Walkup noted. “They scored 72 points, that’s a great number. It was our toughness also. Our fans here really brought it. Great showing for an away game, but most of all it was our toughness, fighting through, especially in the second half.”

Last season, Olympiacos may have boasted the EuroLeague MVP, Sasha Vezenkov, but what took the team all the way to the championship game was its ability to produce new heroes in each game. This term, Canaan and Alec Peters have stepped up their game, but injuries haven’t allowed the team to gel up. Yet, the last two games saw different players make the difference.

One of them was Ignas Brazdeikis, who pulled off his best performances for the Greek side so far and netted 11 points in each of those duels. The Olympiacos guard hit the ground running and netted half of his team’s 18 points in the first quarter against Bayern by completing three hard-fought three-point plays.

Brazdeikis stepped up for Olympiacos

“We’ve got a lot of new pieces and some injuries,” Brazdeikis noted. “We just need to learn about each other and support everybody who’s on the court doing well and I think it’ll end up being good for us.”

Indeed, following these two important wins, the team’s morale is currently sky-high heading into the last stretch of the season. Olympiacos will now travel to Spain, where it will take on another playoff contender, Valencia Basket, in search of revenge after its 56-63 defeat in Piraeus back in Round 14. Milutinov will be sidelined for that game too, while Fall is expected to be questionable. However, Olympiacos proved this week that it boasts the squad depth to generate new protagonists.
