Lessort went 9-for-10 from inside the arc, collected 9 rebounds, dished a career-high 5 assists, recorded 3 steals and drew 7 fouls for a personal-best PIR of 42. This was a complete performance from the 28-year-old on both ends of the floor after shaking off a minor injury heading into the double-round week.

“It’s good to have numbers like that, especially coming back from an injury,” Lessort said in the post-game flash interview. “I had some games where I struggled a lot and I’m still trying to get my rhythm back. So, games like that are good for my confidence.”

### Bouncing back in style

Lessort came into this week after recording a total of 13 points in Panathinaikos’s two games against Baskonia Vitoria-Gasteiz and Valencia Basket in Spain. After recovering from a minor injury, he scored 10 points and downed 6 rebounds for a PIR of 20 in Tuesday’s 83-76 win over Anadolu Efes Istanbul. A couple of days later, he was dominant inside the paint against Monaco and imposed himself on the opposition centers with his energy on the floor.

“I don’t play for personal stuff,” Lessort added. “I want to play for winning teams and we are on the right path right now and that’s all that matters for me.”

Having won seven of its last eight games, Panathinaikos boasts a 13-8 record after sweeping Monaco. Lessort, who was part of the 2022-23 All-EuroLeague First Team, has offered the Greens a much-needed boost of confidence.

Having immediately adapted to his new environment after joining the club in the summer, the charismatic Frenchman has become a key member of this Panathinaikos, which is seeking its first Final Four appearance since 2012.

“We just fought through. We all knew we needed to do and we did a good job of giving it that extra fight in the end. DP coming down with huge rebounds, knocking down his free throws and getting buckets when we needed it. It was huge for us,” Scottie Wilbekin said when quizzed about Pierre’s impact.

### Pierre came up big for Fenerbahce

While Wilbekin has built a career out of big performances, it was Pierre who carried Fenerbahce over the line on Thursday evening.

Pierre used some fancy footwork as he got a couple of baskets over Bayern captain Vladimir Lucic with 1:40 minutes to play and then 42 seconds to go. He added 6 more free throws, 4 of which came in the final 18 seconds, to lock up the win.

“I’m just really happy we were able to pull through. The team that they (Bayern) have and the record that they have doesn’t really show how good they really are. So we are happy that we were able to beat a tough team,” said Pierre, who added 10 rebounds, 2 assists, 1 steal and 1 block.

Pierre had only scored a combined 17 points and grabbed a total of 18 rebounds in his last four games, yet he stepped up to the plate in Round 21 in the absence of the injured Nigel Hayes-Davis.

Head coach Saras Jasikevicius refused to take so much credit for the win and the team’s 7-1 record since he took charge.

“I still have scored zero points since I have been here. The guys really fought. It’s very important to win these types of games – they are a little bit ugly. We weren’t at our best,” admitted Coach Jasikevicius.

“It was just finding the guys who were hot. We found Scottie and then Tyler \[Dorsey\] and then we found DP in the post a couple of times. It was about finding the right guys. And the guys came through.”

And Pierre was not necessarily the one most expected to lead the way in the end. A sign of a winning team.

The fifth season of A Quarter with Kyle Hines is here as AS Monaco star [Mike James](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/euroleague/players/mike-james/005985/) becomes the latest Turkish Airlines EuroLeague player to sit down with the EA7 Emporio Armani Milan center. During a half-hour conversation, James opens up to his ex-CSKA Moscow teammate about his first few years at Monaco, his rise to becoming a bona fide EuroLeague legend, and his role as a veteran in the locker room, as well as much more. 

Now in his third year at Monaco, James believes that despite his team coming up short in the EuroLeague Semifinals last season, the squad will be better for it.

"We brought back most of the guys \[from last year\] and we bring in a person who won last year with \[Real\] Madrid, so just having more experience and having people who have been there," the Monaco star says. "And when you go there, you're not wide-eyed; you're ready for the moment. \[I'm\] just excited to see what we can do this year."

James is yet to secure the EuroLeague trophy, and the 10-season veteran admits that getting his hands on it would mean a lot to him.

"Winning the EuroLeague would be big for me," James comments. " I would love it. And just, you know, give me a little bit more stuff to talk to people on Twitter \[about\], basically."

Monaco has created plenty of noise since its arrival in the EuroLeague in the 2021-22 season, but James believes that the club will continue to go from strength to strength in the coming years.

"I think they're taking steps," he explains. "I think it's hard to take leaps and bounds. And I think that sometimes, as players, we want an organization to grow leaps and bounds in three days, but I think it's unreasonable to ask for that. I think they're taking steps every year; they do two or three things to improve every year and then keep it going. I think they're gonna keep doing that for the rest of their existence."

In fact, expectation levels have changed since James first landed at Monaco early in the 2021-22 campaign, yet he is a fan of the way in which teams bring their A-game when the principality side comes to town.

"Now, it's like people actually have us going to the Final Four, have us winning games, have us being the favorite in a certain number of games," the current EuroLeague scoring leader says. "So it's kind of like, at first I was hunting everybody and now I'm kind of the hunted again, which is fun."

When James first entered the EuroLeague back in the 2014-15 campaign with Baskonia Vitoria-Gasteiz, he was more of a role player. Nine years on, he is a strong candidate each year to become the EuroLeague MVP, about the only award he has yet to win. But it was a gradual process to get to this level.

"I wasn't a superstar right away," James notes. "I learned how to be a role player and got better and became a star."
