It is not a secret that the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague has tremendous parity – there is a high percentage of close, competitive games every single week – but there is something truly unique when the stars align and records fall because of that competitive balance. Everything broke right for one of those moments to materialize in the last game of Round 19.

Although visiting Efes held 15th place going into Friday's finale while host Real sat comfortably atop the standings, it took the EuroLeague's last two champions to finally break the ice on games going beyond double-overtime, of which there had been 18 others over the years. Neither of these champions were about to give in, and their sheer will to continue to fight tooth-and-nail late into the evening saw numerous league records fall as [Real weathered two significant runs from Efes to ultimately claim the 130-26 victory](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/euroleague/game-center/2023-24/real-madrid-anadolu-efes-istanbul/E2023/170/).

### Real's pick-and-roll mastery

With four players combining to score 116 of their 130 points, Real had an efficient night on the offensive end. Their 30-for-39 shooting from the foul line (76.9%) covered for their 12-for-43 rate from beyond the arc (27.9%) against an Efes squad ranked last in defensive efficiency.

With [Dzanan Musa](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/euroleague/players/dzanan-musa/006540/) scoring 40 points and [Mario Hezonja](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/euroleague/players/mario-hezonja/003108/) adding 31, the club's young stars shined brightly, and their starting unit finished +21 in plus/minus. But it was the record 82 points that Real generated out of the pick-and-roll that ultimately helped them overcome Efes's memorable eight-man effort. On their way to [the all-time EuroLeague scoring record](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/euroleague/news/a-record-breaking-euroleague-game-that-had-it-all/) and despite the length of the game, Madrid put together one of the most polarizing shooting games in recent history. They attempted a single long two-pointer, a spot-up jumper in the middle of the fourth quarter when Musa accidentally toed the three-point line as he looked to get it off quickly over a closeout.

### Efes ruled at ends of possessions

In defeat, Efes scored only 7 points in transition compared to a record 118 points in the half-court as they repeatedly found answers against a team on pace to break several significant EuroLeague defensive records. They outscored Madrid 30-7 in possessions that went down to the last 4 seconds on the shot clock, but tallied just 17 assists as nothing was made easy for the visitors on Friday night. [Shane Larkin](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/euroleague/players/shane-larkin/007200/) led the way for Efes, creating 36 total shots for himself and others playing out of pick-and-rolls over his league-record 53.2 minutes on the floor.

As the graph above suggests, both teams were all over the map in terms of Synergy Shot Quality. When Efes built a nine-point lead in the second overtime, they did so on shot-making talent. Unsurprisingly, they faced an uphill battle creating quality looks deep in the game considering their short bench and tired protagonists against an elite defense. They righted the ship spectacularly in the third overtime – and, on paper, put themselves in prime position to close out the game – but did not get the bounces they needed after that at WiZink Center.

With both teams going on several runs that threatened to blow the game open but also seeing game-winners rim out, ultimately neither the league's current frontrunner nor a team that had lost five straight games would let the other pull away.

Two days after he played his best game yet in a Panathinaikos AKTOR Athens uniform, point guard [Luca Vildoza ](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/euroleague/players/luca-vildoza/007947/)suffered a knee injury that will keep him sidelined for the foreseeable future, the club reported on Sunday. Vildoza tore the lateral meniscus in his left knee playing in a Greek League game on Sunday against Peristeri and will undergo surgery on Tuesday.

### Coming off his best game with the Greens

[Vildoza starred in a thrilling 81-82 victory at Valencia Basket](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/euroleague/game-center/2023-24/valencia-basket-panathinaikos-aktor-athens/E2023/171/) on Friday that was the first win by Panathinaikos on Spanish soil since 2017 and left the Greens atop a four-way tie for fourth place in the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague standings. Not only did he lead the team with 19 points, he hit a game-tying shot with 18 seconds left that led to the win. His game-high PIR of 18 was also his best in 18 appearances this season for the Greens. His 5 three-pointers made in the game matched the most by any Panathinaikos player this season.

### From Baskonia to the NBA and back

Vildoza, 28, has largely come of the bench, making just five starts under head coach Ergin Ataman. He has averaged 6.8 points and 5.2 PIR in under 18 minutes per game. After debuting with Baskonia Vitoria-Gasteiz in the EuroLeague and playing four seasons there, he went to the NBA but suffered a foot injury but eventually appeared sparingly for the Milwaukee Bucks in seven playoff games. He returned to the EuroLeague with Crvena Zvezda Meridianbet Belgrade early last season and finished it with averages of 12.6 points, 3.9 assists and 12.2 PIR in 24 minutes per game.

Thomas (2.01 meters, 31 years old) arrives from Spanish side Joventut Badalona, where he averaged 13.4 points and 3.0 rebounds in 11 BKT EuroCup games this season. He is a veteran of eight EuroLeague seasons with seven clubs, including French side JSF Nanterre, with which Thomas made his EuroLeague debut in 2013.

Thomas has scored a total of 2,032 points over 219 career EuroLeague games (9.3 ppg.). He is among the top 100 all-time in the EuroLeague in scoring (62nd), three-pointers made (231, 74th), offensive rebounds (226, 72nd) rebounds (638, 95th) and games played (78th).

Deshaun Thomas played for EA7 Emporio Armani Milan last season. It was his seventh team in the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague.

Thomas has also suited up for the Austin Spurs in the G League (2015-16) and Alvark Tokyo in Japan (2020-21). Thomas also made it to the NCAA Tournament Final Four with Ohio State University in 2012, where he played alongside his new ASVEL teammate David Lighty during the 2010-11 campaign.

### Inglis had a déjà vu double-double

Inglis had the best performance of his first year in the competition, notching his first double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds, both personal-best marks, all while also tying another personal high by dishing 4 assists en route to a 28 PIR. ### Papagiannis showed up in style

### McKissic outscored James, helped Reds to victory

Olympiacos Piraeus pulled out [a dramatic 75-73 win over AS Monaco](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/euroleague/news/euroleague-live-blog-olympiacos-bc-vs-as-monaco-basket/) in Round 19, with [Shaquielle McKissic](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/euroleague/players/shaquielle-mckissic/007853/) playing an instrumental role. McKissic, who missed nine games earlier this season, has had some up-and-down performances, but on Thursday night he played a season-high 19:47 minutes to match his season-best 13 points. After shooting 4-of-22 from long range during the season, McKissic bounced back against Monaco and was 3-of-4 from behind the arc in a win on Thursday night. In a tight game, McKissic had a team-high +9 in the plus/minus column and ended up outscoring Mike James, Monaco’s superstar and the EuroLeague's leading scorer, who had 10 points in 30 minutes on the floor.

### Pleiss returned with a bang

Anadolu Efes Istanbul may have lost both of its games in the double-round week, including [a historic 130-126 quadruple-overtime loss at Real Madrid](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/euroleague/news/euroleague-live-blog-real-madrid-baloncesto-vs-anadolu-efes-sk/) on Friday night, but one player who bounced back to form for [Tibor Pleiss](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/euroleague/players/tibor-pleiss/lhk/). The 34-year-old had missed Rounds 9 to 17 due to injury, but he made his return [against Valencia Basket in Round 18](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/euroleague/news/euroleague-live-blog-valencia-basket-vs-anadolu-efes-sk/) on Wednesday and made an instant impact, recording 11 points and 10 rebounds in his first double-double since Round 34 last season.

A few days later, Pleiss followed that up by notching another double-double at WiZink Center, having had 14 points and 11 boards. In that game against Real, Pleiss also played the second-most minutes all-time in a EuroLeague game, staying on the floor for 52:56 minutes. What’s more, the two-time champion was a +3 in the plus/minus column against Valencia and a +5 against Real, showing the positive impact he can still have on this Efes team.

This season has seen [Mario Hezonja](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/euroleague/players/mario-hezonja/003108/) take a big leap forward in Real Madrid’s system, with the Croatian forward even earning the [MVP of the Month award for December](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/euroleague/news/mvp-for-december-mario-hezonja-real-madrid/). However, it wasn’t enough.

With the score tied at 81-81 after four quarters, Hezonja went on to score 17 points in the four overtime periods, which included a dagger three-pointer with 00:51 left to put Real on course for the win, 126-122. He garnished his stats with a couple of free throws in Real’s final scores of the game to cap off a memorable night for all involved.

Musa led Real to a 130-126 quadruple-overtime victory over Anadolu Efes Istanbul in what, at 60 minutes, was the longest game in Turkish Airlines EuroLeague history. No game in the previous 5,710 since 2000 had ever gone beyond double overtime. Musa led the winners with 40 points, another personal best that shattered a club record that Luka Doncic and Facu Campazzo previously shared with 33 points apiece. Musa hit 13 of 15 two-pointers, 2 of 5 threes and 8 of 11 free throws. His two-pointers made and field goals made were new Real records. He added 2 rebounds, a career-high 8 assists, a steal and 7 fouls drawn for a PIR of 45 that was the second-best mark in Real's 580 EuroLeague games this century. Darjus Lavrinovic holds the all-time record with a PIR of 49, set in 2009. Musa won the fourth MVP of the Round honor of his EuroLeague career.

Tavares had 20 points on 8 of 10 two-pointers, 12 rebounds, an assist, 3 steals, 4 blocks and 5 fouls drawn.
