However, Crvena Zvezda never trailed en route to an 81-86 win over [Fenerbahce Beko Istanbul](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/euroleague/teams/fenerbahce-beko-istanbul/ulk/), which marked its third consecutive road win at Ulker Sports and Events Hall.

It was far from pretty and it involved drama in the final minutes as Fenerbahce rallied. But a win is a win – the first of the season in all competitions for the team from the Serbian capital, in fact.

“I feel that’s the type of game we needed just to know what it feels like to win, and know we have enough to win,” said [Chima Moneke](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/euroleague/players/chima-moneke/012201/), one of the heroes in the victory. “We are still dealing with injuries, but I am proud of how we fought and how resilient we were.”

Moneke had a double-double and came up huge late in the fourth quarter. With Fenerbahce cutting it to 69-72 after [Bonzie Colson](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/euroleague/players/bonzie-colson/009783/) nailed a third of his four fourth-quarter three-pointers, Moneke answered right back with a three of his own, his only triple of the night, with 2:35 to go.

Then, on the ensuing Fenerbahce possession, Moneke blocked [Mikael Jantunen](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/euroleague/players/mikael-jantunen/012613/), flexed his muscles toward the Zvezda bench, then grabbed an offensive rebound on the other end of the floor. Just 30 seconds later, he scored again, racing for a layup after helping his teammates solve Fenerbahce’s full-court pressure.

But for all those late-game heroics, Moneke was prouder of another one of his feats – a double-double. After collecting a combined 24 points and 14 rebounds in the first two rounds, Moneke almost matched that output against the defending champs with a 20-point, 12-rebound performance, while also delivering 2 blocks.

“I am 1.96 \[meters\]. My whole career people have told me he is ‘this but’, ‘he is too short’. They can’t measure the heart that I have,” Moneke said in a EuroLeague TV interview after the game.

“I feel like I’m the best rebounder in Europe and I pride myself on rebounding at all times. That’s what I care about the most. So, anytime I am able to get double-double with rebounds, I am proud of that. I am proud of us. We had great contribution from everybody, and it feels good.”

Another one of the major contributors for Zvezda was [Donatas Motiejunas](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/euroleague/players/donatas-motiejunas/lcz/), who has joined on loan from Monaco, where he sat out the first two rounds. Against Fenerbahce, the big man played his first minutes of the season, but that did not stop him from collecting 13 points and 6 rebounds in less than 15 minutes on the floor.

Motiejunas arrived at the club in a turbulent moment, not even playing a single game for coach Ioannis Sfairopoulos who brought him in. And the veteran center spoke very realistically after a win.

“In these type of situations, usually two things happen. Either you get united or you get separated. I am happy that we united,” he said before also adding:

“We beat Fenerbahce on the road, that’s an amazing achievement. But at the same time, this effort we showed today has to be a bottom line how we have to play. There are gonna be some games where we gonna make shots, miss shots, but if we are gonna show the effort we showed today, I am pretty sure we are gonna win more than we are gonna lose.”

The effort is also what the interim head coach Tomislav Tomovic underlined:

“We did a great job as a team. We showed some amazing reaction, amazing effort, amazing toughness and hustle.”

On the other hand, Fenerbahce has also dropped to 1-2 record with its second straight loss. There's no hiding the fact it was a disappointing performance from coach Sarunas Jasikevicius men.

Zvezda opened a 16-point lead, its largest of the night, in the final minute of the first half before [Tarik Biberovic](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/euroleague/players/tarik-biberovic/006961/)'s buzzer-beating triple made it 30-43 at the break.

Of Fenerbahce’s first-half performance, perhaps the best example to demonstrate its sub-par display was the fact that of the 27 points it scored before Biberovic’s triple, 18 came from the free-throw line. The hosts had 10 turnovers, made 5-of-24 field goals, and even managed to miss 8 free throws in the first half alone.

Zvezda, which showed great hustle but also struggled offensively, missed its first 9 three-pointers and had 9 turnovers, but it still managed to open – and maintain – a double-digit margin into the third quarter, when Fenerbahce started to rally.

[Tyson Carter](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/euroleague/players/tyson-carter/011305/) helped Zvezda to victory with 15 points, while [Talen Horton-Tucker](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/euroleague/players/talen-horton-tucker/014124/) and [Bonzie Colson](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/euroleague/players/bonzie-colson/009783/) scored 19 apiece for the hosts, with Colson netting 15 of his in the second half.

Francisco poured in a game-high 19 points to go with 7 assists and would you believe it, it was a perfect birthday gift to his mother and aunt too, who were born on the same date as Sylvain.

It was clear from the off that the versatile guard was on song as he sank 9 points in the first quarter, all of them from long range as Zalgiris missed its opening six shots from inside but made four of five from downtown to wipe out an early 4-0 deficit, the only time the visitors were behind on the night.

Having picked injury-hit Bayern apart with fast-flowing offense coupled with ironclad defense which gave the home team preciously little room to operate, Zalgiris never looked back as it built a whopping lead to delight its vociferous band of supporters inside SAP Garden.

Francisco was at the heart of it all, as his unselfish approach unleashed a cohesive team effort which generated a staggering 14 three-pointers from 24 attempts, with [Maodo Lo](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/euroleague/players/maodo-lo/007032/), another former Bayern player, adding 10 points while [Dustin Sleva](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/euroleague/players/dustin-sleva/011927/) chipped in with 14.

At the other end, Bayern’s sharpshooter [Andi Obst](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/euroleague/players/andreas-obst/004508/) led Bayern on 15 points but made no real impact as the hosts played in fits and starts on offense, sorely missing a bunch of sidelined players. Particularly conspicuous for his absence and often zoomed in by the cameras was point guard [Rokas Jokubaitis](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/euroleague/players/rokas-jokubaitis/007519/), who suffered a severe knee injury at FIBA EuroBasket 2025 having joined Bayern from Maccabi Rapyd Tel Aviv during the off-season.

Hauled in to pull the strings on offense, Jokubaitis could only watch helplessly as Francisco stole the show and helped Zalgiris romp to a perfect start in the current campaign with its third straight win, while Bayern dropped to 1-2.

“We knew it was going to be tough but we managed to carve out a big lead and got the win,” Francisco said in his post-game comments. “We played tough defense on Obst as we knew how lethal a shooter he is and then we just kept going as they couldn’t stop us at the other end.

“It’s that much sweeter as it’s my birthday, but also my mum’s and my aunt as we were all born on the same date,” he said with a broad and boyish smile on his face.

Zalgiris head coach Tomas Masiulis kept his feet firmly on the ground, knowing that Zalgiris may yet flatter to deceive as his team – albeit led by a different coach, Andrea Trinchieri, at the time – made an impressive 6-1 start last term before an epic meltdown denied the Lithuanian giant a postseason spot in Europe’s premier club competition.  

“Every game is a new story and we just want to keep fighting,” Masiulis stressed in a flash post-game interview. “We didn’t let Bayern run, they took just 8 offensive rebounds and for them that’s not a big number. We stopped Obst as we played solid defense.” 

Wearing a surgeon-styled mask on his face, Bayern head coach Gordon Herbert slammed his team for looking like a bunch of individuals who came together for the first time and not like a team which made waves last term by reaching the playoffs.

“We didn’t play as a team, we tried to play by ourselves too much,” he said. “We have four games in seven days coming up so we’ve got to look at the video of this one tomorrow and crack stuff. We lost battles at both ends of the floor and I was embarrassed how we played this game.”

Zalgiris dominated every department as it won the battle of the boards 30-25, but particularly damaging for Bayern was the difference in taking care of the ball as the visitors dished out 18 assists against 10 turnovers, while the home team had 11 assists and 13 turnovers – courtesy of relentless Zalgiris pressure.

“The stat sheet doesn’t really show how hard we hounded them defensively,” said Sleva, who constituted a wall in the paint for Zalgiris. “We did an amazing job as a team defensively as we did so many little things to stop them.”

This was a highly anticipated game for several reasons. After playing three consecutive road contests across both competitions, Barcelona returned to Palau Blaugrana for its home opener. Valencia, meanwhile, came into the bout undefeated, having defeated the *Blaugrana* at Roig Arena in Spanish League action just five days earlier.

Facing Valencia had previously meant struggling to match the high tempo and intensity of coach Pedro Martinez’s team, but not this time. Barcelona rose to the occasion, securing a 108-102 victory. In the process, the Spanish side set a new club record in the EuroLeague with its 108 points, having never scored that many before in a non-overtime game.

So, what total did coach Joan Penarroya's men beat? Barcelona had actually scored 107 points twice in regulation, doing so against Pinar Karsiyaka Izmir (107-79) in 2015 and against Anadolu Efes Istanbul (83-107) in 2018. However, the club’s all-time scoring record remains the 111 points it scored in an 111-109 overtime home win over UNICS Kazan on December 22, 2021.

The team’s primary ballhandlers rose to the challenge, ensuring a victorious home debut. 

[Kevin Punter](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/euroleague/players/kevin-punter/009862/) was everywhere on Friday night, leading the way with 27 points and 7 assists. We just have to keep it going,” Punter said after the game. “I try to work hard on my game and am extra confident. My team believes in me, so we have to keep going.”

That’s still ahead of us, but today our game flowed a bit better.”

Valencia fought back from two double-digit deficits and finished with outstanding shooting percentages: 71.4% on two-pointers, 44.8% from beyond the arc, and 81.3% from the free-throw line. It was a high-quality contest, as evidenced by the combined PIR of 240 (126-114).

“It was a good basketball game. Both teams played really well on offense,” Coach Martinez said in the post-game press conference. “We made a great effort to come back in the fourth quarter, but they made some unbelievable shots with a lot of quality. You always feel you could have done more on defense, but you have to acknowledge the talent and quality of your opponents, who were excellent offensively in the final stretch.”

“We’re happy with the win in our first game at Palau this season. It was important to start strong against a tough opponent that plays with a lot of rhythm and possessions,” said Barca head coach Joan Penarroya. 

“They’re known for high-scoring games. It was surely entertaining for the fans—maybe a bit less so for us coaches. We know these are high-scoring affairs, and I’m very pleased with how we played offensively, how we read the game, and the balance we showed.”

Both teams have now scored over 100 points twice in just three games this season. Coming up in Round 4, Valencia hosts Hapoel IBI Tel Aviv on Wednesday, October 15. A day earlier, Barca visits Maccabi Rapyd Tel Aviv.

And Georgios Bartzokas’s team took full advantage of the opportunity to show the Reds’ faithful that they have lots to look forward to this season, roaring to a convincing 86-67 victory thanks to a strong combination of potent offense and dominating defense.

For starters, there were bright moments from some of the summer signings who were making their home debuts.

Center [Donta Hall](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/euroleague/players/donta-hall/011196/) got the fans on their feet with a couple of bone-crunching blocked shots, also adding 5 points and 4 rebounds in a solid performance, while shooters [Frank Ntilikina](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/euroleague/players/frank-ntilikina/006591/) – making his Olympiacos debut – and [Tyson Ward](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/euroleague/players/tyson-ward/012610/) showed their long-range shooting prowess by netting from deep.

Elsewhere, [Tyler Dorsey](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/euroleague/players/tyler-dorsey/009849/) – a largely unused player last season – continued his recent rejuvenation by knocking down 14 points, while [Nikola Milutinov](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/euroleague/players/nikola-milutinov/003941/) also proved that he is still one of the league’s most dominant big men with his second double-double of the season as he recorded 13 points and 11 rebounds, including 5 at the offensive end.  

Then, of course, there was star man [Sasha Vezenkov](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/euroleague/players/sasha-vezenkov/003469/) getting up to his usual seemingly straightforward tricks: 25 points, 11 rebounds and a PIR of 34 in less than 24 minutes for the brutally consistent power forward.

More than just individual performances, the team’s collective stats make impressive reading. Shooting percentages were strong, with 20 of 34 from two-point range (58.8%) and 8 of 22 for three (36.4%). The rebounding battle was comfortably won (43-28), and determined defense was underlined by 7 blocked shots and Dubai converting just 4 of its 24 three-point attempts (16.7%).

Coach Bartzokas was certainly appreciative of his team’s work and cautioned against underestimating the threat that Dubai had posed, telling [EuroLeague TV](http://EuroLeague.TV): “In the EuroLeague, there are no easy nights.

“We are talking about a \[Dubai\] team with special offensive talent. [\[Dwayne\] Bacon](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/euroleague/players/dwayne-bacon/011286/), a lot of shooters around him, good big men. Every win in EuroLeague, you need to really appreciate it.”

With just three games played there is still a long way to go, and as much as anything else Olympiacos will have to confront the mental demons that shall inevitably arise after repeatedly coming close but failing to land the title in the last few seasons. The added pressure and expectation created by a nearby Final Four on the floor of bitter local rivals Panathinaikos AKTOR Athens will also loom large.

That, however, is all to come. For now, the Reds and their fans can simply reflect upon a home opener that couldn’t have gone much better.

“The feeling is amazing,” said Milutinov as he savored playing in front of his team’s fans again. “After so many months, being back here with them again is extraordinary.

“I’m just trying to take the wins for the team, go from game to game and see how far we can go.”

How far can they go? Perhaps, this time, all the way.

Olympiacos grabbed its second straight victory, improving to 2-1, by downing Dubai 86-67 at the Peace and Friendship Stadium. Dubai competed well in the early stages but the home team took charge with a 12-1 run to bridge the first and second quarters, featuring a pair of triples from Tyler Dorsey. Sasha Vezenkov started the second half by scoring 13 points in five minutes to widen the gap, and Dubai couldn’t get close the rest of the way.

Vezenkov led the scoring with 25 points and added 11 rebounds, while center Nikola Milutinov also recorded a double-double with 13 points and 11 boards. Backcourt duo Dorsey (14 points) and Saben Lee (10) also contributed to a comfortable victory. Dubai, which dropped to 1-2, was paced by former Olympiacos big man Filip Petrusev with 14 points, while ex-Panathinaikos forward Dwayne Bacon netted 13.

Zalgiris made it three wins out of three in this season’s EuroLeague with a 70-98 road rout of Bayern, whose former guard Sylvain Francisco shined for the visitors as he racked up 19 points and 7 assists. 

Maodo Lo, another former Bayern player, came off the bench to add 10 points for Zalgiris which sank an impressive 14-of-24 shots from long range. Dustin Sleva added 14 points for the visiting team while Laurynas Birutis and Moses Wright right chipped in with 11 apiece. Andreas Obst led Bayern on 15 points and Xavier Rathan-Mayes amassed 13.

Zalgiris struggled from inside initially as the visitors missed their opening six shots in the paint but they hit four of their opening five efforts from downtown to take an 11-16 lead, closing out the first quarter with a 20-26 advantage as Francisco sank 9 points including a long buzzer-beating three-pointer. Francisco continued to pull the strings for Zalgiris in the second as he facilitated a delicious dunk for Laurynas Birutis and Zalgiris then stretched its lead to 24-39, with Bayern’s offense ground to a halt.

Having led 33-45 at halftime on the back of 14 points from the unstoppable Francisco, Zalgiris kept going at full throttle as the French superstar mixed his lethal shooting with sublime assists which helped the Lithuanian side stay ahead at the end of the third quarter, 57-68. Zalgiris, which saw its 21-point lead slashed by a 10-0 Bayern run late in the third, responded ruthlessly early in the fourth with its own 11-0 streak which effectively killed the contest as the visiting team romped into an unassailable 57-79 advantage.

In a high-scoring, fun-to-watch showdown, Barcelona grabbed its second consecutive victory by edging Valencia 108-102 at Palau Blaugrana in Round 3 on Friday. Both teams now have a 2-1 record, right behind Zalgiris Kaunas (3-0), the only undefeated team left in the EuroLeague Regular Season.

Kevin Punter led the winners with 27 points and 6 assists. He had 12 points in the final 7 minutes to make sure Barca grabbed a win in its first home game of the season. Will Clyburn added 19 points, Tomas Satoransky had 14, Toko Shengelia 12 and Willy Hernangomez 11 for Barca. Omari Moore led Valencia with 21 points, Darius Thompson added 19, Brancou Badio 15 in his EuroLeague debut while Neal Sako got 14 points for the guests.

At the other end, Isaiah Cordinier and Ercan Osmani stood out for Efes with 24 and 21 points respectively as the visitors fought back from a 12-point first half deficit to take a 75-76 lead in the fourth quarter.

Partizan which fired on all cylinders in a dominant first half, saw their offense ground to a halt at one point but Brown and Jones found an extra gear in the home stretch to give the home team a second successive tight win after pipping EA7 Emporio Armani Milan in Round 2.

Monaco improved to 2-1 on the season following a 79-82 triumph at Unipol Forum in its first road game of the campaign. Even though Milan only held two leads on the night – 25-24 and 27-26 in the second quarter – it was a highly fought contest in which the Monegasques were never able to truly pull away. A dominant performance by Daniel Theis through the first three quarters put Monaco in a great position to grab the win, but an 8-0 run by Marko Guduric in the latter stages of the fourth quarter make it a two-point ballgame (77-79). Free throws by Nikola Mirotic and Matthew Strazel, along with a decisive block by Alpha Diallo, ensured Monaco came away with the win. 

Theis earned player of the game honors with a 17-point, 10-rebound double-double, Mike James netted 18 points at his former home, and Elie Okobo and Alpha Diallo poured in 13 points apiece. For Milan, Devin Booker led the home team with 15 points, followed by Shavon Shields with 13, Lorenzo Brown with 12, and Guduric and Zach LeDay with 10 points each.

The visitors relied on Kendrick Nunn's heroics on Thursday night to end a seven-game losing slide by edging Baskonia 84-86 in Vitoria. Baskonia went on a 7-0 run early in the second half to grab the lead for the first time in the game, but Nunn netted 9 straight points, with Panathinaikos pulling away, 56-71, in the closing stages of the third quarter. The hosts bounced back and tied it at 84-84 with 4 seconds left on the clock, but Nunn nailed a buzzer-beating long two to seal the outcome.

Panathinaikos improved its record to 2-1, with the 30-year-old guard ending the game on 30 points. Cedi Osman netted 20, with Juancho Hernangomez completing a double-double of 15 points and 10 rebounds. Timothe Luwawu-Cabarrot bagged 15 points, with Trent Forrest and Hamidou Diallo scoring 15 each, but Baskonia lost its third straight game.

Paris forced 26 turnovers and grabbed 20 offensive rebounds in improving to 2-1. Nadir Hifi poured in 20 points with 6 assists and Amath M’baye added 12 points among four Paris players in double figures. Matthew Morgan scored 21 points for Virtus, which dropped to 1-2.

Chuma Okeke led the winners with 17 points, 5 rebounds and a PIR of 25 in just 18 minutes. Trey Lyles added 12 points and Mario Hezonja had 11 for Real. Edwin Jackson led ASVEL with 16 points. Mehdy Ngouama scored 12 and Bodian Massa and Glynn Watson each scored 11 for the visitors. Two players made their EuroLeague debut for Real in the game: Izan Almansa and 17-year-old prospect Gunars Grinvalds.

Maccabi pulled away in the fourth quarter to defeat Hapoel IBI Tel Aviv 90-103 at Arena 8888 in Sofia, Bulgaria, in the first Tel Aviv Derby in EuroLeague history. After Hapoel's Chris Jones tied the game at 72-72 with the first basket of the fourth quarter, Jeff Dowtin Jr. himself outscored Hapoel 2-11 over the next 5 minutes as Maccabi took control for good.

Lonnie Walker led six Maccabi scorers in double figures with 20 points, Oshae Brissett poured in 19 and Dowtin scored all of his 13 points in the decisive fourth quarter as Maccabi claimed its first win of the season in its third game. Hapoel, which fell to 2-1, was led by Elijah Bryant's 18 points and Antonio Blakeney's 16.

Armstrong (1.96 meters, 23 years old) most recently played for the Golden State Warriors' affiliate franchise, the Santa Cruz Warriors, in the G League. In 12 appearances to finish the 2024-25 season, he posted 11.8 points, 5.9 rebounds, 7.9 assists and 1.3 steals.

The Australian guard spent the bulk of that 2024-25 campaign with the Cairns Taipans, where he starred with averages of 17.1 points, 4.6 rebounds, 4.7 assists and 0.9 steals across 19 NBL games.

From the very beginning of the game, Real managed to stay away from the foul penalty, as ASVEL opted not to get close to the paint in order to avoid going one-on-one against [Walter Tavares](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/euroleague/players/walter-tavares/005791/). The numbers said it all at the end of the first quarter: ASVEL scored its first two-pointer in the sixth minute of the game, hit 2-of-6 three-pointers and 5-of-10 three-pointers without going to the foul line. Real circulated the ball close to perfection in the first quarter, getting 10 assists and just one turnover.

ASVEL stuck to its game plan, opening the floor with three-point shots. On the other hand, Real attacked the rim as much as possible and its aggressiveness paid off, as the guests entered the foul penalty way too early in the two opening quarters. At halftime, Real had hit 14-of-18 free throws, and ASVEL had only been to the foul line once.

Three-point shots kept ASVEL in the game, as the guests were 8 of 21 from beyond the arc at the break. [Edwin Jackson](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/euroleague/players/edwin-jackson/000229/) had buried all of his three attempts from downtown in the first half. Adjusting its three-point defense was a priority for Real in the second half, as Coach Scariolo pointed out.

"We had some defensive slumps. We are not going to the ball on pull-ups, maybe overhelping in a couple of situations," Scariolo said at halftime. "We definitely have to improve on defense."

Indeed, Real's adjustments worked, as ASVEL hit just 2-of-13 three-pointers (15.4%) after the break. Despite outrebounding *Los Blancos* 15-23 in the second half, including 11 offensive boards, ASVEL was not effective enough to challenge for the victory. Real ended up getting twice more assists (24) than turnovers (12). On the other hand, ASVEL had more turnovers (14) than assists (11).

A couple of newcomers gave Real an extra boost in this game, as [Chuma Okeke](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/euroleague/players/chuma-okeke/014006/) and [Trey Lyles](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/euroleague/players/trey-lyles/014117/) gave *Los Blancos* a great mix of effectiveness and intensity. Okeke finished the game with 17 points on perfect shooting, including 4-of-4 three-pointers, 5 rebounds and a PIR of 25. Lyles had an all-around effort with 12 points, 6 rebounds, 2 assists, a steal and a PIR of 19. Both Lyles and Okeke played around 18 minutes apiece.
