The visitors arrived at Sinan Erdem Sports Hall with a perfect 3-0 record, while they had also flexed their muscles on defense in each of those three games.

There was no splitting Efes and Valencia in the first half of Friday night’s contest, as both squads swapped leads as many as eight times, with neither side able to open a double-digit advantage. Valencia started with a 0-7 run early in the game, but Efes led 21-15 at the beginning of the second quarter. Those were the biggest leads that either team had in the first 20 minutes.

The visitors reached halftime up by 2 points, 38-40, and seemed to take control of the game soon after, when a 0-7 run capped by a triple by Damien Inglis made it a 41-50 ballgame. Efes’s shooters couldn’t find the right offensive momentum, as Valencia ruled in rebounding and prevented the hosts from running the court and scoring in transition.

### Efes’s guards came to the rescue

But at that moment, Efes backcourt took the reins for good, launching a 16-1 run that turned the game upside down in less than a 5-minute spell. During that run, all of Efes’s points were provided – directly or indirectly – by Shane Larkin, Rodrigue Beaubois and Darius Thompson.

Larkin dished 2 assists to Tyrique Jones and Will Clyburn, and he also connected once from downtown. Beaubois scored 2 points and handed 1 assist to Jones, while Thompson contributed with 2 free throws and 1 assist to Jones to make that 16-point scoring package. Their performance provided Efes and the home fans with the energy they had been missing before.

“We just used 5 fouls in the first 20 minutes, which is not acceptable playing at home, especially against such a tough team,” Efes head coach Erdem Can recognized after the game.

“They take all of their energy from playing tough offensively and defensively. You need to match their energy and you need to play smart. I think we picked it up, playing smart, playing together, and that energy brought us better opportunities offensively.”

Efes’s backcourt excellence continued in the last quarter, as all of the hosts’ 20 fourth-period scoring came from the trio of Larkin, Beaubois and Thompson. They combined for 14 points and 3 assists, good enough to keep Valencia at bay until the end of the game.

At the final buzzer, a game Efes won 77-73, Larkin had an impressive stat line of 15 points, 8 rebounds and 6 assists. Beaubois got 14 points, 4 assists and 2 rebounds, while Thompson amassed 13 points, 5 assists and 1 rebound. "Following a poor start to the season, the club's management decided to part company with coach T.J. Parker, effective immediately," the club said in a statement. "As of this Sunday, the professional team will be temporarily managed by the duo Jean-Christophe Prat and Pierric Poupet" who have been Parker's assistants this season.

"Having arrived at the club in 2013 as an assistant, T.J.Parker has built up his experience in a series of 'lieutenant' roles with Pierre Vincent. J.D. Jackson (French champion 2016) and then Zvezdan Mitrovic (French champion and French Cup winner 2019). Logically promoted to head coach in 2020, he enjoyed immediate success, sweeping all the trophies on the national stage (French champion 2021 and 2022, French Cup winner 2022 and Leaders Cup winner 2023).

"Always forthright in the face of even the most unjustified criticism, T.J.Parker has shown unfailing determination and commitment during his 10 years with LDLC ASVEL. The whole club thanks him for his energy and loyalty throughout this long adventure, and wishes him all the best for the rest of his career."

Since taking over the head of ASVEL's bench, Parker compiled a 31-69 record in the EuroLeague. His highest finish with the team was 14th place out of 18 teams in his first season, 2020-21, when ASVEL had a 13-20 record. That fell to 10-22 and and 14th out of 15 the next season, 8-26 and last out of 18 teams last season. ASVEL and ALBA Berlin are the only winless teams so far this season.

A spectacular second-half performance saw reigning Turkish Airlines EuroLeague champ Real Madrid stay perfect at 4-0 with an 88-71 victory over EA7 Emporio Armani Milan, which dropped to 1-2.

The first double-round week of the season officially came to a close tonight, with four teams winning on their home floor during the night's five Turkish Airlines EuroLeague fixtures.

Daniel Hackett and Adam Hanga each have more than 250 Turkish Airlines EuroLeague appearances and will go against each other for the 15th time in their careers as Virtus Segafredo Bologna and Crvena Zvezda Meridianbet Belgrade collide in Round 4 on Friday.

Hackett and Hanga head into another vintage clash

It is hard to imagine a EuroLeague season without [Daniel Hackett](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/euroleague/players/daniel-hackett/001844/) or [Adam Hanga](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/euroleague/players/adam-hanga/005099/). The two veteran guards have been leaders-by-example while competing  in the Europe's most elite club competition for an entire decade.

Hanga, in his 10th EuroLeague season with 258 games played, made his competition debut in December 2013. Hackett did so exactly a year earlier and is now in his 12th campaign, entering Round 4 with 278 appearances under his belt.

Their greatest achievements came in the past four years, as Hackett was first to win a EuroLeague title, with CSKA Moscow in 2019. Hanga won the trophy last season with Real Madrid in what was his fourth Final Four.

Now, ready to see one another on the opposite sides one more time, Hackett and Hanga bring all that experience, winning know-how and great defensive skill into Friday night's clash between Virtus Segafredo Bologna and Crvena Zvezda Meridianbet Belgrade.

Until now, they have gone head-to-head 14 times, the first time in January 2014 when Hackett was with EA7 Emporio Armani Milan and Hanga was with Laboral Kutxa, now Baskonia Vitoria-Gasteiz.

Half of those 14 head-to-head games came in the period between 2014 and 2016, when Hackett was first with Milan and then Olympiacos Piraeus, and his team's had a 6-1 record against Hanga's Baskonia.

Hanga started catching up in the years since, winning five of the last seven games they shared while wearing the jerseys of FC Barcelona and Real Madrid. In that span, Hackett was playing with Brose Bamberg, CSKA Moscow and, finally, Virtus last season.

And while the record in head-to-head games stands at 8-6 in Hackett's favor, the stats these two players have produced in those 14 games are equally close.

Hanga (7.7 ppg.) has slightly outscored Hackett (7.1 ppg.) and also holds a rebounding advantage of 4.1 to Hackett's 2.3 per game. But Hackett has shot 15-for-32 (46.9%) from three-point distance in those games, compared to Hanga's 12-for-35 (34.3%). He has also dished 2.8 assists on average to Hanga's 1.9. It all led to Hanga's average PIR coming out just over 2 points better than Hackett's over their 14 games together.

To take it one step further, their 2023-24 stats coming into this game are even more similar. Each has played just over 22 minutes in three games this season. Hackett, set to turn 36 years of age in December, posts 6.7 points, 3.0 rebounds, 2.0 assists and also 1.7 steals for Virtus (2-1). The 34-year old Hanga is averaging 6.0 points, 3.3 rebounds and 2.0 assists for Zvezda (1-2).

Both Hackett and Hanga would love nothing more to outduel an old rival one more time, but even more importantly, both know that their performances could provide a significant early-season boost for their respective clubs in the battle for position in the standings.

A pair of venerable backcourt warriors and former champions with more than 250 Turkish Airlines EuroLeague appearances each will face off in EuroLeague play for the 15th time on Friday.
